Talkiatry transforms psychiatry with accessible, human, and responsible care. We’re a national mental health practice co-founded by a patient and a triple-board-certified psychiatrist to solve the problems both groups face in accessing and providing the highest quality treatment.

60% of adults in the U.S. with a diagnosable mental illness go untreated every year because care is inaccessible, while 45% of clinicians are out of network with insurers because reimbursement rates are low and paperwork is unduly burdensome.   With innovative technology and a human-centered philosophy, we provide patients with the care they need—and allow psychiatrists to focus on why they got into medicine.

About the role:

We are actively seeking an Engineering Manager to lead and manage the engineering team that is tasked with building Talkiatry's high-quality psychiatric care software. Our engineering team is small and collegial, and maintains strong, collaborative relationships with our clinical and back-office teams.

 You will:

  • Grow and empower a highly diverse and talented team of Engineers.
  • Report to VP of Engineering; this individual will build and lead the software development team and work closely with our product organization to define and ship a fantastic experience for our patients.
  • Mentor, coach, and support the professional growth of everyone on your team; create career paths and goals for each team member.
  • Manage the team's agile processes and continually seek to improve them, while consistently demonstrating your ability to not only delegate and assign tasks to others, but also “getting into the details”.
  • Demonstrate your problem solving and technical abilities, ensuring features are designed and built in a scalable and stable manner that fit our overall architecture.
  • Be a great communicator – some of our engineers are early in their careers with varying levels of technical expertise. The ability to communicate and educate clear requirements for stories in a sprint is a must!
  • Rely heavily on cross-functional communication from other managers at Talkiatry…speaking up is encouraged! Ask for support as needed.
  • Guide other engineers, offering support with day-to-day questions that arise.
  • Take a collaborative approach while working cross-functionally, using logic and instincts while remaining flexible.

Desired Competencies:

  • Driving Alignment - Fosters a culture across several teams of having conversations based on company strategy and engineering organization priorities to create alignment. Strongly oriented towards goals and ensures several teams are continuously working towards their goals.
  • Business Acumen - Has a thorough understanding of several team's domains, and how they contribute to overall business strategy.
  • Product Thinking - Evaluates and creates new product features in collaboration with the team's product manager. Influences the team's product and technical roadmaps. Simplifies product and technical design through proactive conversations.
  • Mentoring - Mentors across teams in an open, respectful, flexible, empathetic manner. Fosters a culture of mentoring across teams by seeking out development opportunities for themselves and others, and supports others in their growth as mentors.

You have:

  • 1+ year of experience in managing engineers (I, II,) preferred.
  • An ability to work in a hybrid model – this is a hybrid role, meaning being close to NYC where a lot of our engineers and leadership team spends their time
