Welcome to Talkiatry

You’re about to learn everything you need to know to get the most out of your care. We’ll introduce you to our team, explain a few policies, and provide tips for having the best outcomes.

If you have any questions that aren’t answered here, just email us at hello@talkiatry.com.

To make sure you get the most out of your visit and your clinician has everything they need from you, make sure to follow these guidelines.

The right setting

  • At the time of your visit, make sure you’re in the same state as the address you gave us when you signed up. Otherwise, your visit may have to be rescheduled.
  • Let us know when you're moving or traveling out of state.
  • Choosing a quiet, well-lit room will help you feel more comfortable and help your psychiatrist hear and see you better.
  • Don’t attend your visit from a moving car—even if you’re not the driver.

Avoiding technical difficulties

  • You can join your appointment using a phone, tablet, computer, or any other device you prefer, as long as it has a camera and a strong internet connection.
  • If you’re using a phone, make sure to download the Healow app before your first visit and silence your calls to avoid interruptions.
  • If you’re using a computer, we recommend using Google Chrome and closing any other tabs you have open.
  • If you run into any issues, call 917-634-5311 or email hello@talkiatry.com.

Preparing for your visit

  • Log in to your visit about 10 minutes early so you have time to make sure everything’s working properly.
  • Have your insurance card and an HSA, FSA, or credit card on hand to cover your co-pay.

  • Be ready to talk openly and honestly. Your clinician will ask about your medical history, including any medications you’re currently taking, and may ask you to discuss some difficult topics.

After your visit

  • If you have questions for your psychiatrist, send them a message through your patient portal or the Healow app.
  • Follow the care plan recommended by your psychiatrist. It will be designed to meet your needs and help you achieve your goals, but it can’t succeed if you don’t stick to it.
  • Let your psychiatrist know about any changes in your symptoms or difficulties you’re facing. We’re here to help.

Georgia Gaveras, DO

Co-Founder and Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Georgia Gaveras holds the position of Co-Founder and Chief Medical Officer at Talkiatry. She is triple board-certified in child and adolescent psychiatry, adult psychiatry, and addiction medicine. She has been practicing for over 18 years.

Dr. Gaveras’s practice focuses on medication management. Typically, she offers this in conjunction with supportive or emotionally focused therapy in 30-minute follow-up visits. However, occasionally Dr. Gaveras may believe that additional therapy is also needed and ask that you bring a therapist into your care team to provide the best outcome.

She received her medical degree from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, ME, before moving back to NY to complete her residency at the SUNY Downstate Medical Center and a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital. After completing training, she remained and worked with dually-diagnosed adolescents at the Comprehensive Rehabilitation and Education Service (CARES) before becoming the Director of Training and Education for the Mount Sinai St. Luke’s and Roosevelt Hospitals. She was then the associate director of child and adolescent emergency psychiatry at Cohen Children’s Medical Center before becoming the Director of the Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP) at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn.

Dr. Gaveras has held academic appointments at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, Mount Sinai Icahn School of Medicine, Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine, Zucker School of Medicine, and SUNY Downstate Medical College. In addition, she has appeared in numerous professional publications and authored several research papers.

In addition to general, child, and adolescent psychiatry, Dr. Gaveras is also board-certified in addiction medicine and trained in the Eating Disorders, Compulsions and Addictions Service (EDCAS) program at the William Alanson White Institute. She completed her undergraduate studies at New York University. While having treated a wide variety of patients, her primary clinical focus has been in treating adolescents and young adults with co-occurring substance use disorders.
