Dr. Alyssa Norman is a board-certified adult psychiatrist. She graduated from the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at SUNY University at Buffalo. Dr. Norman stayed in Buffalo and completed her residency at the University at Buffalo. She gained experience working in various treatment settings, including a variety of specialty inpatient units, multiple outpatient clinics, and one of the busiest psychiatric emergency rooms in New York State. She has worked with diverse patient populations including refugees, veterans, and those coming from underserved urban areas.
Dr. Norman’s approach to treatment is holistic and patient centered. The conditions she treats include, although are not limited to, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and PTSD. Her practice consists primarily of medication management, although incorporates various psychotherapeutic modalities, such as supportive therapy, insight-oriented therapy, and CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy). Dr. Norman will refer patients to a therapist should the need for more focused psychotherapy arise and will collaborate with those therapists. Dr. Norman has a special interest in the therapeutic benefits of nature and enjoys spending time outdoors herself. She provides judgement free and compassionate care with an emphasize on open and honest communication to help patients achieve their goals and improve their quality of life.
