Dr. Birnbaum is a board-certified adult psychiatrist, starting her post-residency practice with Talkiatry. Dr. Birnbaum provides medication management together with psychotherapy. She has an eclectic approach to therapy, drawing from psychodynamic therapy, ACT, DBT, and mindfulness-based therapies. Occasionally, Dr. Birnbaum may believe that additional therapy is also needed and ask that you bring a therapist to your care team.
Dr. Birnbaum welcomes patients from diverse backgrounds. She strives toward trauma-informed care and cultural humility. She is fluent in English and Spanish and provides care in both languages. She affirms LGBTQ+ identities. Dr. Birnbaum is a body-positive psychiatrist; she celebrates the diversity of body shape and size and encourages flexible and compassionate self-care.
Dr. Birnbaum completed her undergraduate degree at Colby College, a liberal arts college in Maine, where she majored in cultural anthropology. She then served 2years with AmeriCorps. She completed her medical degree at SUNY Downstate College of Medicine, in Brooklyn. She is a recent graduate from UCLA-Olive View Psychiatry Residency Training Program, in Los Angeles.
Dr. Birnbaum works with patients who are experiencing depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, ADHD, and difficulties with emotion regulation. She provides psychiatric care for pregnant patients and patients with medical conditions.
