Dr. Ashley Cooper holds the position of full-time clinical counselor at Talkiatry. Dr. Cooper is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Qualified Supervisor in the state of Florida and holds a doctorate in Counselor Education. Dr. Cooper has been practicing in the mental health field for about ten years, and is trained in EMDR, Trauma Focused CBT, and Motivational Interviewing among other therapeutic modalities. Dr. Cooper provides individual therapy sessions for a wide variety of clients of all ages, genders and mental health presentations. Each session offered ranges from 30-60 minutes, depending upon the client's individual needs and preferences. Dr. Cooper also believes in a collaborative approach and works closely with a team of mental health professionals to ensure the best possible treatment for her clients.
She received her Ph.D. from Florida Atlantic University in the field of Counselor Education and was the recipient of the Presidential Fellowship Award. This advanced degree allows her to not only practice as a clinician, but to research in the field of mental health counseling and add to the body of literature and therapeutic practices in the field. Dr. Cooper studied Applied Psychology at Lynn University, where she obtained her Master of Science, and after two years of post graduate training, became a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. Finally, she completed her Bachelors Degree at the University of Miami, where she began her journey towards finding her passion in mental health.
Dr. Cooper has several published works and plans to continue researching and writing throughout the duration of her career. She splits her time as a clinician with work in academia. She currently holds appointments as an Adjunct Professor at both Florida Atlantic University and Lynn University. Dr. Cooper enjoys teaching various courses in the field of Counseling and Psychology, and hopes to continue supporting aspiring mental health counselors as they work to become licensed clinicians. With a rich background of clinical experience, Dr. Cooper enjoys working with clients of all ages, genders and presentations. She is trained in EMDR, Trauma Focused CBT, CBT, Motivational Interviewing among many other styles of therapy. She firmly believes that each client is unique, and the key to treatment is being able to not only hear their concerns- but to empathize with each client's needs and understand their goals.
