Dr. Clara Alvarez is triple board-certified in Psychiatry and Neurology, Addiction Medicine, and Psychosomatic Medicine. She has been practicing for more than 15years. Dr. Alvarez specializes in wellness and comorbid psychiatric-medical conditions. Dr. Alvarez believes in the collaboration with primary care providers and licensed therapists to optimize care. She offers medication management during the 30minute follow up visits. 

Dr. Alvarez has held multiple leadership roles and recognitions. She earned her medical degree from the Colegio Mayor de Nuestra Senora del Rosario in Bogota, Colombia in 1994. During her psychiatry residency training at the Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Hospital, an affiliate of the Weill Cornell Medical College, where she was recognized as Resident of the Year, Women’s History Month Award, Best Resident Teacher, and Chief Resident. Dr. Alvarez pursued Psychosomatic Medicine fellowship at the North Shore Long Island Jewish Health System, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, in 2008.  She also served as Attending Psychiatrist at the Roosevelt Hospital in New York City and Lecturer at the City College of New York.

Dr. Alvarez served as Medical Director of the Adult Outpatient Psychiatric Clinic at the Jackson Memorial Hospital, in collaboration with the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Miami. During her work as an Assistant Professor at the University of Miami Psychiatry Consultation services, she helped to develop multiple clinical programs. Later on, Dr. Alvarez served as Medical Director at the Memorial Regional Hospital Outpatient Behavioral Health Center in Hollywood, FL. In recent years, Dr. Alvarez has been devoted to Medical Education. Dr. Alvarez has given a variety of lectures in Medicine and Psychiatry.  She is a Fellow of the American Psychiatry Association. Her areas of interest include mood disorders, trauma, collaborative care, and wellness.
