Dr. Mausner has always been interested in the practice of psychiatry. A Brooklyn native, she studied at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine where she completed her MD degree as well as a Ph.D. in Neuroscience. She did her psychiatric internship at Mt. Sinai - Beth Israel Medical Center and her psychiatric residency at the NYU Langone-Bellevue Hospital Medical Center, completed in 1985. She has decades' worth of experience in clinic, inpatient, and psych emergency room settings. She has published articles in Clinical Psychiatric News, Psychiatric Times, the Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry, and Brain Research. She has given lectures at "Grand Rounds" at three hospitals.

She specializes in psychopharmacology, the medication management of mental health conditions. She is especially versed in the treatment of depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorders. She also provides psychotherapy when needed to support a client's practical life issues. She works with adults and geriatric population, with a particular sensitivity to using the minimum amount of medications needed, tries to avoid "polypharmacy", and being sensitive to her clients' individual needs, concerns, and preferences. She tries to minimize the use of controlled substances which can be addictive.

She is mindful of the value of nutrition and exercise in the management of mental illness and stress in general. She embraces diversity and is open to LGBQT; in her past work at the APICHA Clinic at 400 Broadway she had a caseload of clients dealing with the particular stressors of gender dysphoria, handling discrimination against LGBQT folks, and guiding those seeking to transition from one gender to another. She is available for "second opinion" consultations as well as supervision for Nurse Practitioners, which she has done with good success.
