Gary Sean Escola, MD

Dr. Gary Sean Escola is a board certified psychiatrist and a computational neuroscientist. Previously, Dr. Escola was an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Columbia University. As a member of the Columbia Doctors faculty practice, he saw adults with depression, anxiety, ADHD, OCD, and other psychiatric conditions. His preferred practice type is to combine supportive or psychodynamic psychotherapy with medication management (when needed). Dr. Escola also has experience working as an inpatient and emergency room psychiatrist. As a member of the Center for Theoretical Neuroscience, Dr. Escola’s lab developed computational models of: (i) motor learning and control, (ii) the development of psychopathology (e.g., OCD and schizophrenia) through disordered learning in subcortical systems, and (iii) neural network dynamics and representations. Dr. Escola is also an entrepreneur, founding multiple neuroscience based companies. He received his BA and MS in Computer Science, his PhD in computational neuroscience, his MD, and his residency in psychiatry, all at Columbia.
