Dr. Stein completed his undergraduate training at Union College, Schenectady, NY, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. He received his MD degree from SUNY Health Sciences Center/Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, NY. He completed psychiatric residency training at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in LA. He enjoyed learning long-term psychodynamic psychotherapy under psychoanalyst supervision, and broad psychopharmacology skills with pharmacologic experts from Cedars Sinai Medical Center and UCLA.
Dr. Stein has served diverse populations. He worked for five years with Kaiser Permanente of Charlotte NC, where he treated a broad range of mood and anxiety disorders. He was one of the few psychiatrists at Kaiser who requested, and was allowed to perform, long-term insight-oriented psychodynamic psychotherapy with select patients. In addition to private practice psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy in West Hartford, CT, Dr. Stein was employed by the West Grad Outpatient Clinic of Hartford Hospital's Institute of Living.
In recent years, prior to joining Talkiatry, Dr. Stein has served as Principal Psychiatrist at the State of CT Dept of Mental Health and Addiction Services/Capitol Region Mental Health Center, in Hartford CT, helping to provide treatment to patients suffering from dual diagnosis disorders, major mood disorders, trauma, and anxiety.
