Johann Othmer, MD

Dr. Othmer is an Attending Psychiatrist at Talkiatry and is double board-certified in child and adolescent psychiatry and adult psychiatry. Before joining Talkiatry, Dr. Othmer moved to Lititz, PA in 2011, worked at Philhaven (now Wellspan Philhaven) in both the York & Mount Gretna Child & Adolescent Partial Programs (2011-2016). Followed by working at Lancaster General Hospital Outpatient; C+L, and Inpatient coverage; PA Counseling, and TeamCare Behavioral Health during the Pandemic. During this time, he developed a commitment to optimizing the patient experience and removing treatment barriers (for families — both Adults and Children/adolescents) through using merging Telehealth technologies, an area of Psychiatry he first experienced in the early 2000s, considered "niche" at the time but of significant benefit in client access to care.

Dr. Othmer started his career at WPIC in Pittsburgh, serving as Clinical Chief Resident and then Assistant Professor of Psychiatry working at all levels of care Inpatient, Outpatient, Partial, RTF, Psychiatric ER, as well as Consult-Liason Psychiatry at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. Experiencing the dramatic changes that Managed Care wrought on the practice of Academic Psychiatry — and up-ending well-established traditional Institutions within the City he trained.

He moved back-home to Kansas City to join his father’s practice, learning a great deal from his father’s clinical expertise as a Teacher, Scientist, Academician, and Clinician, collaborating on ongoing academic Clinical Interviewing Publications, and medical student Teaching, and his specialty of the difficult-to-treat patient. New opportunities and connections led to expanding clinical experiences — including VA work in America’s tumultuous war years with vets from WW II through Vietnam to OEF and OIF. Family led to he and his wife moving back to her home-town area in small-town Central PA, leading to a diversity of experiences to stay-up-to-date with both adult and Child/Adolescent Populations, including Correctional Work, and a stint at the local State Hospital, until relocating to Lititz, PA with his growing family in 2011.
