As a Queer Asian-American child of Korean immigrants, Patricia’s road to therapy was challenging given her cultural and sexual identity while growing up in an environment where she always found herself to be in the minority. Art was her primary coping mechanism throughout childhood and into her early adult years and continues to be a significant part of her healing journey.

Before her life as a licensed clinical social worker, Patricia earned her Master’s in Fine Arts from Columbia University and fulfilled her dream of moving to New York to pursue the life of a working artist. Her therapeutic approach combines her artistic and clinical backgrounds which are then tailored to each individual person and functions as a dialogic process that promotes growth and healing.

Patricia received her Master’s in Social Work from Columbia University with specific focus on Contemporary Social Issues within the clinical track curriculum. She spent more than 3 years working on psychiatric units designated as the highest level of care on Rikers Island for detained individuals. Prior to this, she worked as a behavioral health provider for the Mental Health Service Corps under New York City’s Thrive initiative which aimed to provide mental health services to historically underserved areas.

Consideration of one’s intersectional identity is paramount to therapeutic work, according to Patricia’s clinical philosophy. So is the acknowledgment of the strengths that have brought you this far on the way to being your best self.
