Dr. Prince Prabhakar is a board-certified adult psychiatrist who completed his fellowship in psychosomatic medicine, also known as consultation-liaison psychiatry.
He earned his medical degree at the American University of Antigua and started his clinical rotations in the New York City area, where his interest in psychiatry began to develop. Dr. Prabhakar completed his residency at Richmond University Medical Center, an affiliate of SUNY Downstate.
Fascinated with the intersection between medicine and psychiatry, he went on to pursue a fellowship in consultation-liaison psychiatry at the Northwell Health-affiliated Long Island Jewish Medical Center. He is a dedicated teacher and greatly enjoys educating medical students and residents. He was a teaching associate at Long Island Jewish Medical Center while in his fellowship and has participated in peer review of academic literature. He also submitted and presented papers to the American Psychiatric Association and had an article published in the Psychiatric Times.
Dr. Prabhakar is experienced and comfortable in treating anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, ADHD, relationship problems, issues arising from major life changes, and other related issues. He is also LQBTQ+ friendly. He approaches others with kindness and compassion and recognizes that everyone has struggles that others may not understand. He uses a well-rounded approach with a focus on psychopharmacology in 30-minute follow-up sessions. Dr. Prabhakar may also employ techniques from cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamics, motivational interviewing, and supportive therapy. In some instances, Dr. Prabhakar may recommend the addition of a separate therapist in order to help facilitate the best care possible.
