Biography

I'm a psychiatrist, double board-certified in general and addiction psychiatry, and I treat adults and older adults living with bipolar disorder, PTSD, ADHD, and substance use, along with the depression and anxiety that so often travel alongside them. I also see people navigating the postpartum period, and I have a particular affinity for parents and caregivers trying to hold their own health together while caring for someone else.

My addiction psychiatry training, which I completed at the Medical University of South Carolina, taught me to lean on motivational interviewing rather than lectures. I want to understand where your own reasons for change actually live. I tend to be approachable, and building genuine rapport with you comes before anything else, because I consider it a privilege to be part of someone's path toward recovery and steadier ground. In a first visit, expect real conversation: I'll ask questions, listen for your strengths as much as your struggles, and be straightforward about what I'm noticing and why.

My approach stays evidence-based and centered on you. That usually means combining practical cognitive behavioral skills and supportive therapy with medication when it's a sensible part of the plan, always in service of the goals you set, never as a shortcut around them.

There's no deadline on any of this. When the timing feels right for you, reach out and we'll begin.

I'm a psychiatrist, and I treat adults living with ADHD, anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD and the aftermath of trauma, substance use, and postpartum depression. Much of my outpatient background comes from my years in the Air Force, where I served as Medical Director of a mental health clinic and Program Manager for a substance abuse program. That work taught me to look at the whole person, the biological, the psychological, and the social all at once, rather than treating a symptom in isolation.

Before I recommend anything, I want to understand where you've been. I start with a comprehensive history, including early life experiences, because I've found that context shapes the plan far more than a checklist ever could. From there, we build something individualized to you rather than a template I apply to everyone. Medication may be part of that, but it's one tool among several, and I'll always explain my thinking so decisions feel like ours, not mine handed down to you.

My pace is unhurried and my approach is collaborative. I want you to feel genuinely heard and respected in the room, and I'll be honest with you about what I see, even when it's complicated. If you're worn down by anxiety, still sorting through trauma, or navigating the early months after childbirth and feeling unlike yourself, you don't have to keep managing it on your own. Reach out, and let's figure out the next step together.

I'm a psychiatrist with a particular focus on trauma and PTSD, substance use, and thoughtful medication management for adults. My training runs through the Long School of Medicine in San Antonio, where I earned my degree, and the Medical University of South Carolina, where I completed my residency and spent two years in a Drug Abuse Research Training program. That research background shapes how I think about substance use: carefully, and grounded in evidence rather than assumption.

The people I tend to work with are adults navigating the weight of past trauma, complicated relationships with substances, or questions about whether their current treatment is actually serving them. I value open and candid communication, which means I'll be direct with you about what I'm seeing. I want to offer real support, but I'll also challenge you when I think it's the thing that moves you forward. Growth rarely comes from comfort alone.

Early on, I start by understanding what brought you in, then work through your history, your concerns, and what you're hoping for, usually across the first session or two. From there we build a plan together, one shaped around the stage of life you're actually in rather than a generic template. Treatment should reflect your goals, not mine.

Deciding to look for a psychiatrist takes some nerve, and getting this far already says something about your readiness. When you're ready to take the next step, I'll be here to talk it through.

I'm a psychiatrist with a particular focus on adults living with co-occurring mental health and substance use conditions, and I'm board-certified in both general and addiction psychiatry. My training took me a long way to get here: medical school and seven years of postgraduate residency in South Africa, then fellowship work in the U.S. across forensic, addiction, and child and adolescent psychiatry, along with years spent as a research faculty member and, more recently, a chief medical officer. That range means I've sat with a wide spectrum of concerns, from ADHD, anxiety, and depression to bipolar disorder, OCD, PTSD, and the substance use that so often travels alongside them, including in uniformed personnel.

I practice from a bio-psycho-social view of care, which is my way of saying I want the whole picture before we settle on anything. Early on, I do a thorough evaluation, gather collateral information when it's useful, and use baseline rating scales so we have a real starting point to measure against over time. I value open communication and I ask for feedback directly, both what's working and what isn't, because that's what keeps a treatment plan honest. When it helps, I'm glad to involve family. Medication may be part of the plan, but it sits inside the larger effort, never in place of it.

Curious whether this approach fits what you're after? That first conversation is where we find out.

I'm a psychiatrist, and I treat adults dealing with ADHD, anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD and trauma, panic, and substance use. Over the years I've worked in a range of settings, outpatient and inpatient, in both government and private hospitals and clinics, and that range has shaped how I think about each person who sits across from me. No two histories are alike, and I try to keep that in mind rather than reaching for a formula.

Open and honest communication matters a great deal to me. I want the people I work with to feel genuinely listened to and respected, because the work goes better when there's real trust between us. Our first visit is fairly straightforward: I listen closely to what's brought you in, take a careful history, and ask enough questions to understand the full picture before we settle on anything. From there we build a plan that fits your goals, not one I've decided for you. When medication has a place, it's one part of a broader approach, never the whole answer.

I tend to move at a steady, thorough pace rather than rushing to conclusions, and I'd rather be clear with you than tell you what's easy to hear. Bring whatever's been on your mind to a first appointment, and we'll work through it together and decide on the next steps as a team.

I'm a psychiatrist with more than a decade of outpatient experience, and I treat depression, anxiety, ADHD, PTSD and complex PTSD, bipolar disorder, and substance use in adults. Over the years I've worked with people at every stage of adulthood, including veterans and military families, and I've spent a lot of time alongside patients sorting through school or work stress, life transitions, relationships, and the ordinary strain of trying to balance too many responsibilities at once.

I start with a comprehensive evaluation, because I want to actually understand your symptoms, your history, and what you're hoping to get out of treatment before I say anything about a plan. That first conversation is mostly me asking questions and listening without judgment, so we can land on an accurate picture together rather than rushing to a label. From there I'm practical and fairly structured: I'll lay out the treatment options, tell you honestly what I think, and we decide together. Medication is one part of that when it makes sense, paired with therapeutic support shaped around what you actually need, not a standard protocol.

Open communication matters to me. I'd rather you feel heard and respected enough to tell me when something isn't working, so we can adjust. My aim is steady improvement in how you feel, how you function, and how your days go overall.

I've spent years as a psychiatrist treating people across just about every setting there is: inpatient units, the ER, forensic work, and outpatient care, working with both severely mentally ill patients and those who are functioning well and simply want to feel better. That range taught me how to sit with someone in crisis and how to walk alongside someone building a longer, steadier relationship with a doctor they trust. A lot of what I do centers on PTSD and trauma, substance use, and thoughtful medication management, and I care deeply about advocacy for my patients, particularly women, LGBTQIA+ folks, immigrant communities, and patients of color.

I think of medicine as both a science and an art, and I try to honor both. We'll start with a real conversation about your history, your goals, and what has or hasn't worked before, and I'll take time to explain my reasoning so decisions genuinely feel like yours. My approach draws on supportive and psychodynamic work, and when medication has a role, it's one piece of a plan built around the whole person, not a shortcut. I lean toward clarity over jargon, and I'll coordinate with other specialists when your care calls for it.

Good rapport isn't a nicety to me; it's part of what makes treatment work. Curious whether the two of us would fit? That's exactly what a first visit is for.

As a psychiatrist, I work mostly with adults, children, and families navigating ADHD, mood and anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, trauma, and high-functioning autism. I'm double board certified in adult and in child and adolescent psychiatry, and since 2012 I've practiced in just about every setting you can name: Level V schools, residential treatment centers, crisis clinics, partial hospital and IOP programs, and telehealth. I've cared for people in rural towns and in major cities, and that range has taught me not to make assumptions about who's sitting across from me.

I start with a thorough look at your history, your concerns, and what you actually want to get out of this. From there we build a treatment plan that's individualized and measurable, one that leans on your strengths rather than just cataloging what's wrong. I'll be warm and down-to-earth with you, and I'll be straight about what I'm thinking. My aim is to take some of the stigma out of this and keep your best interests at the center.

Medication is one tool among many for me, so I tend to think in terms of a fuller picture of your wellness and adjust things thoughtfully as we go. Progress usually looks less like a single fix and more like steady, meaningful movement over time.

There's no rush on any of this. When you're ready to begin, I'll be here.

I trained as a clinical social worker, and I mostly work with adolescents, adults, couples, and families who are moving through trauma, anxiety, depression, questions of identity, relationship strain, or a life transition that has knocked things off balance. I hold licenses in Alabama and California, I'm board-certified in transgender-affirming care, and I'm currently pursuing a PhD in Clinical Sexology, so identity development is work I take seriously rather than treat as an afterthought.

I'll be honest with you: I value direct communication, and I'll encourage the kinds of conversations that feel uncomfortable but tend to be the ones that actually move something. My approach is structured and goal-oriented, but I don't confuse structure with coldness. We start with a thorough intake so I understand your history, your strengths, your stressors, and where you actually want to end up. From there we set clear, measurable objectives, and I build a plan that lines up with your values rather than mine. Expect practical tools you can use between sessions, regular check-ins on progress, and adjustments when something isn't working. I draw on CBT, ACT, and trauma-focused and EMDR-informed methods when they fit, and I coordinate with your other providers when that supports steadier, longer-term change.

Everything I do is grounded in dignity, respect, and cultural humility. Reach out when you're ready to get to work.

I trained as a psychiatrist, and I mostly work with adults living with bipolar disorder, OCD, PTSD, and ADHD, along with the anxiety and depression that often travel alongside them. My background spans both outpatient and inpatient settings, which has given me a fairly wide-angle view of how these conditions actually show up in people's lives, and it keeps me from reaching for the same answer every time.

I care a lot about open communication, and I'd rather we set clear, meaningful goals together than have me hand you a plan you had no part in shaping. My first priority in an early session is understanding your history, your concerns, and what you're actually hoping for, so before we settle on any direction I ask a lot of questions and take time to listen to the whole picture. From there I build a plan that fits your priorities, using medication where it helps, along with supportive therapy and other evidence-based tools. I try to keep things calm and hopeful without pretending the hard parts aren't hard, and I make a point of being respectful and unhurried. I especially connect with patients who are people of color and want to feel genuinely heard in their care.

Wondering whether the two of us would work well together? That's exactly what a first visit is for.

I'm a psychiatrist with experience treating postpartum depression, ADHD, and OCD, along with bipolar disorder, depression, and other conditions that shape how someone moves through daily life. Some of the people I see are new parents trying to make sense of what they're feeling after a birth; others are adults who've spent years wondering why focus, mood, or intrusive thoughts have been harder to manage than they expected. I offer care in both English and Mandarin, and I have a particular affinity for patients navigating life between cultures or the demands of caregiving.

My path to psychiatry ran through anesthesiology; I practiced as a board-certified anesthesiologist before training in general psychiatry and completing a fellowship in psychodynamic psychotherapy. That background shapes how I work. I draw on medication when it's useful, but I also lean on psychotherapy, lifestyle changes, and integrative methods, choosing among them based on what fits the person in front of me.

The first few visits are mostly me listening, getting to understand your concerns, your goals, and the story that brought you here. From there we build a plan together, and it can shift as we go. I try to be transparent about my thinking so decisions stay in your hands.

If any of this fits what you've been looking for, I'd be happy to talk.

I'm a psychiatrist, and most of what I see is depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, ADHD, and trauma-related conditions, along with OCD, substance use concerns, and the harder-to-name struggles that don't fit neatly into one box. I've worked in both outpatient and telehealth settings, and I try to look at the whole picture rather than a single symptom: how you're sleeping, what your relationships feel like, any medical conditions in the mix, your culture, and the stressors weighing on any given week. Mental health rarely exists in isolation, and I don't treat it that way.

My style is collaborative and patient-centered. Before we settle on any plan, we start with a thorough evaluation so I actually understand your history, what's bringing you in now, and what you want to get out of this. From there we set clear goals and choose treatments that fit your values, which might mean medication alongside supportive therapy, CBT, or motivational interviewing. Our follow-up visits are for checking progress, sorting out side effects, and adjusting as we go. I care a lot about open dialogue and keeping you informed, because I think that's what makes care both safe and durable over the long haul.

I aim for a respectful, affirming space where you can speak honestly, whatever your age or background. The first step is just a conversation, and we build the rest of the plan together from there.

I'm a psychiatrist who has spent years treating adults through mood disorders, anxiety, ADHD, OCD, and the aftermath of trauma. A good part of my practice centers on women's mental health, especially the perinatal period, when new parents are often navigating postpartum depression and anxiety alongside everything else that comes with a changing life. I see people who want to be genuinely listened to, not managed.

My starting point is simple: feeling heard, understood, and respected is the foundation of any care worth having. Our first visit is a thorough one, and it's mostly me asking questions and paying attention to your history, your concerns, and what you actually want out of treatment. From there we build a plan together and set goals that feel realistic rather than aspirational. When medication is part of the picture, I approach it thoughtfully, checking in regularly about side effects, progress, and whatever's shifting in your life, with close attention to what you'd prefer. I tend toward a calm, steady presence, and I try to be transparent so you always know where things stand.

Continuity matters to me. I'd rather stay with you over time, keeping communication clear, than hand you a quick fix and disappear. Curious whether the two of us would work well together? That's exactly what a first appointment is for.

Most of my work as a therapist is with adults and couples, though I also enjoy sitting with children and teens when they need someone in their corner. Over more than fifteen years in community mental health, I've supported people through anxiety, depression, eating disorders, stress at work or school, friction with peers, and questions around sexuality. As a first-generation Latina, I know something about navigating a bicultural identity and the weight that gets passed down through generations, and I bring that understanding into the room.

I think of my clients as the experts on their own lives, and my job is to partner with you toward some balance and clarity. I'm firm but friendly, honest, and pretty down-to-earth, and I'll bring humor in when it fits. I adapt how I talk to match what actually works for you. Early on, I focus on connection: understanding what led you to put your mental health first, building trust, and figuring out goals that are meaningful and genuinely reachable. From the first session, I want you to feel heard and seen. I'll give you respectful, honest feedback and I like to celebrate the progress and wins along the way, because I see therapy as a journey we take together, not a race.

Bring whatever's on your mind to a first visit, and we'll start sorting through it side by side.
