What happens during my first visit?
First visits last up to 60 minutes so you and your provider have time to talk through what’s going on and decide on the right care. They’ll ask about your symptoms, background, and medical history to get a full picture of what’s bringing you in. If they think you’re experiencing a mental health condition, they’ll provide a diagnosis, explain what it means, and recommend a treatment plan.
In addition to discussing or evaluating medications, your clinician may provide supportive therapy. This may involve discussing challenges, exploring your emotions, and developing coping strategies to improve your well-being.
During your visit, your provider will also want to make sure that virtual care with Talkiatry is the right fit for your needs. If they feel you’d be better served with in-person or more specialized care, they’ll point you toward helpful next steps and resources.
Here are some tips to have a smooth first visit:
- Set up your profile in the patient portal if you haven’t already. This is how you’ll access your visit.
- Pick a quiet, private location with a strong Wi-Fi connection for your visit.
- Heads up: We won’t be able to conduct your visit if you’re in a different state than the one listed in your profile, or if you’re in a moving vehicle, even as a passenger.
