Douglas Finestone, MD
Born in Philadelphia and raised in the mountains of Virginia, Dr. Finestone has been a North Carolinian most of his life. After graduating from the Medical College of Virginia, he completed his psychiatry residency and chief residency at Duke University Medical Center. He is a psychoanalyst and graduate of the University of North Carolina - Duke University Psychoanalytic Institute. He was an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Duke University prior to being a Professor and Director of Education at the East Carolina University Department of Psychiatry. He has been a private practice psychiatrist for twenty years, and has provided telemedicine for the past four years.
Dr. Finestone has treated some of his patients for twenty years. He specializes in the treatment of depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, stress disorders, and attention deficit disorder. His goal is to minimize the suffering and maximize the happiness of each patient.
Dr. Finestone practices personalized, evidence-based medicine. He partners with each patient to formulate an individualized treatment plan consisting of as needed medication management combined with supportive or psychodynamic psychotherapy.
