Irene Garrick, LMHC

Irene R. Garrick, PhD is a mental health counselor licensed in New York, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. She is a Board Certified Counselor and has 15+ years of counseling experience. Dr. Garrick has worked with a variety of populations across the lifespan, from elementary aged children to the gerontological population, and all age groups in between. She has experience helping clients who present with a variety of issues, including but not limited to depression, anxiety, relationship and communication struggles, online dating, navigating career and school stress, surviving narcissistic abuse, womens' issues, parenting challenges, chronic health conditions, grief, eating disorders, OCD, and low self-esteem. Dr. Garrick begins therapeutic relationships with a Rogerian approach, utilizing talk therapy to help clients feel safe to discuss their thoughts and feelings in a nurturing and non-judgmental space. She then integrates psychodynamic therapy to explore how childhood experiences and trauma impact current behaviors. As clients start to heal and see improvement in their behaviors and relationships, Dr. Garrick emphasizes choice theory to help clients become empowered to make healthy decisions, reach their full potential, and achieve self-actualization.
