Dr. Karla Garcia is a board-certified psychiatrist trained in Adult Psychiatry. She graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Education. She then went on to complete her medical education and residency training at the University of Chicago. She is board certified in Adult Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Dr. Garcia believes in patient-centered care, seeking to care for the whole person.  She values the therapeutic relationship, working to guide patients in their treatment while also encouraging patients to take an active role in their care. Amit Suneja, MD

Dr. Suneja practices psychiatry through a collaborative, integrative, disability and healing justice-informed lens. He rejects oversimplified binaries, recognizing that healing requires embracing complexity. His training includes Columbia, Johns Hopkins, and a global mental health fellowship at UCSF. His clinical interests include anxiety, OCD, women’s reproductive mental health, climate stress, intergenerational trauma, immigrant and refugee mental health, and substance use concerns. Based in Tucson, he enjoys desert life, reading, baking, making art, and spending time with his two dogs.

Dr. Suneja provides a healing space that prioritizes each service user’s goals and lived experiences. His approach integrates psychiatric and psychotherapeutic practices with complementary, alternative, and natural therapies, as well as harm reduction. His approach is neurodivergence-, queer-, and gender-affirming as well as trauma-informed. Rejecting the binary of “mentally ill” vs. “mentally healthy,” he recognizes the mind, body, and soul’s inherent complexity.

Dr. Suneja tailors care to each service user. The first session explores goals, treatment options, and optimal meeting frequency. In many cases, visits are more frequent at the beginning of treatment and spaced out over time. He prefers visits at least every 4-6 weeks and integrates psychotherapy into all treatment plans, with many service users benefiting from ongoing deeper therapeutic work.

Brett Abernethy, MD

Background and credentials    

Dr. Abernethy is a board-certified psychiatrist who received his medical  degree from the University of Texas Medical School at Houston. He completed  his internship at UT Southwestern in Dallas and earned a Master's of Public  Health in Epidemiology and Occupational and Environmental Health from Texas  A&M. He completed his psychiatry residency training at the University of  Oklahoma Health Science Center. Dr. Abernethy has over 12 years of experience  practicing psychiatry in various outpatient settings, including private  practice and community mental health centers in Texas and Oklahoma,  specifically reaching underserved communities. He has treated a broad  spectrum of mental health symptoms among diverse populations, addressing  issues ranging from mood and anxiety disorders to behavioral manifestations  of Autism and other developmental disorders.    

Treatment approach    

Dr. Abernethy utilizes a collaborative and patient-centered approach to  psychiatry, focusing primarily on medication interventions that align with  each patient's unique treatment goals and clinical needs. He emphasizes  cooperation with patients to effectively treat and reduce mental  health-related symptoms. His practice centers around medication management,  supplemented by supportive treatments tailored to individual needs. Depending  on each patient’s circumstances, he may recommend additional support from  individual, family, or group counselors and therapists to achieve optimal outcomes.    

What you can expect in a first visit

In an initial visit, patients can expect a thorough, collaborative  discussion focused on understanding their symptoms, goals, and clinical  needs. Dr. Abernethy will evaluate the patient's condition to determine  appropriate medication interventions and discuss personalized treatment  recommendations. Typical follow-up visits are approximately 20-30 minutes in  length. Depending on the severity and complexity of a patient's situation,  referrals to additional counseling or therapy may also be suggested.

Lee Dockery, MD

Staff Psychiatrist

Dr. Lee Dockery is a general psychiatry provider who joined Talkiatry in August 2022. He is board-eligible with expected certification in fall 2022, with further addiction psychiatry board-certification expected in 2023. He has been training and practicing psychiatry since 2018. Dr. Dockery's practice emphasizes medication management within a therapy-informed framework, utilizing skills from Acceptance and Commitment therapy, mindfulness-based therapies, motivation interviewing, and supportive therapy. He typically offers 60-minute new visits and 30-minute follow-up visits. Dr. Dockery received his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in 2014. He then moved to Nashville, TN to complete his general psychiatry residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he served as chief resident of inpatient services. He expects to complete the addiction psychiatry fellowship in spring 2023 .Dr. Dockery has experience treating most general adult psychiatry complaints, including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and substance use disorders. He has a particular focus in the treatment of young adults, and co-occurring mood disorders and substance use disorders.‍

Georgia Gaveras, DO

Co-Founder and Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Georgia Gaveras holds the position of Co-Founder and Chief Medical Officer at Talkiatry. She is triple board-certified in child and adolescent psychiatry, adult psychiatry, and addiction medicine. She has been practicing for over 18 years. Dr. Gaveras's practice focuses on medication management. Typically, she offers this in conjunction with supportive or emotionally focused therapy in 30-minute follow-up visits. However, occasionally Dr. Gaveras may believe that additional therapy is also needed and ask that you bring a therapist into your care team to provide the best outcome. She received her medical degree from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, ME, before moving back to NY to complete her residency at the SUNY Downstate Medical Center and a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital. After completing training, she remained and worked with dually-diagnosed adolescents at the Comprehensive Rehabilitation and Education Service (CARES) before becoming the Director of Training and Education for the Mount Sinai St. Luke's and Roosevelt Hospitals. She was then the associate director of child and adolescent emergency psychiatry at Cohen Children's Medical Center before becoming the Director of the Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP) at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn. Dr. Gaveras has held academic appointments at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, Mount Sinai Icahn School of Medicine, Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine, Zucker School of Medicine, and SUNY Downstate Medical College. In addition, she has appeared in numerous professional publications and authored several research papers. In addition to general, child, and adolescent psychiatry, Dr. Gaveras is also board-certified in addiction medicine and trained in the Eating Disorders, Compulsions and Addictions Service (EDCAS) program at the William Alanson White Institute. She completed her undergraduate studies at New York University. While having treated a wide variety of patients, her primary clinical focus has been in treating adolescents and young adults with co-occurring substance use disorders.

Amy Bichsel Pacheco Pina, LCSW

Amy Bichsel Pacheco Piña is a compassionate and experienced psychotherapist dedicated to helping individuals navigate the complexities of life with resilience and confidence. Amy holds a Master's in Social Work from the University of Nebraska-Omaha in 2008 and is licensed as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). With 16 years of experience in the mental health field, Amy specializes in anxiety, depression, trauma (including Narcissistic Abuse), and grief. Amy prides herself on creating a non-judgmental and healing environment that allows for self-discovery and assists clients in identifying their authentic selves. She has experience in many methods and techniques, ensuring that her approach integrates evidence-based practices with experiential techniques which are tailored to each client's unique needs to allow for nervous system regulation and a sense of safety within themselves. She believes in fostering a collaborative therapeutic relationship where clients feel empowered to set and achieve meaningful goals. Megan Marumoto, MD

Dr. Megan Marumoto provides holistic and personalized care as an integrative psychiatrist board-certified in General Psychiatry, Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, Integrative Medicine, and Lifestyle Medicine. She takes a root cause approach to treating mental health conditions as a certified Functional Medicine practitioner. Dr. Marumoto treats a wide range of mental health conditions in children, adolescents, and young adults, including ADHD, anxiety, depression, phobias, OCD, and trauma-related conditions. Patients may expect a comprehensive assessment with evidence-based treatment focusing on nutrition and healthy lifestyle interventions as well as medication management in 20�30-minute sessions. She enjoys working collaboratively with therapists and health coaches to achieve the best outcomes. She also provides supportive therapy and other therapies when indicated. Robynn Cavaliere, PMHNP

Robynn Cavaliere, DNP, PMHNP-BC is a Nationally Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and received a Doctorate in Nursing Practice Degree from University of San Diego (USD).  Cavaliere's passion for helping others started at the age of 16 when she became an EMT and volunteered to ride on an ambulance for a local emergency unit. Her strong belief in Service to Country and her eagerness to follow in her brothers' footsteps gave rise to her proudly serving in the United States Marine Corps. Cavaliere's nursing journey started over two decades ago when the calling to help others in need was too strong to ignore. Her career started as an LVN working on medical/surgical/telemetry floors to becoming an RN working in the ER to progressing to being an NP in psychiatry.

Cavaliere's vast amount of nursing experience in a wide range of settings, involving many different disease pathways, and treating patients across the lifespan has significantly influenced the framework for her interviewing, assessment, and interventions. She believes in applying the Biopsychosocial Model formulation approach in every patient encounter since truly understanding the person as a whole will lead to better treatment recommendations, outcomes, and prognosis. Cavaliere genuinely appreciates the opportunity to facilitate positive changes in the lives of her patients and giving back the field of nursing by precepting student NPs in her practice and teaching student NPs as a Clinical Assistant Professor at USD.

Shelah Radke, MD, JD, is a double board-certified Child and Adolescent and Adult Psychiatrist with over a decade of extensive experience in mental health care, specializing in the well-being of children, adolescents, and young adults. She currently serves in St. Louis, MO, where she is known for her dynamic leadership as a Medical Director and her robust clinical practice. Dr. O’Mara is a board-certified geriatric and general adult psychiatrist. She is originally from Ohio where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in neuroscience and psychology from Wright State University and attended medical school at Ohio University. She completed her psychiatry residency and geriatric psychiatry fellowship through Michigan State University at Pine Rest in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She has provided psychiatric care in both inpatient and outpatient settings. She was a faculty member and Associate Program Director for Trinity Health Livonia’s psychiatry residency. In her free time, she enjoys drawing and hiking.

Dr. O’Mara eagerly treats a wide range of age groups and conditions and is passionate about patients coping with chronic medical conditions and caregivers. She also has experience with perinatal mood disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, and PTSD. She strives to deliver evidence-based treatment tailored to her patient’s individual needs.

In addition to medication management, she incorporates brief therapy modalities into her appointments including supportive therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and dialectical behavioral therapy skills. She will work with you to determine if more comprehensive therapy may be needed. She also can provide practical and realistic behavioral strategies to caregivers and patients with memory changes. Dr. O’Mara prefers to meet patients where they are in a supportive, safe, and non-judgmental environment.
