I provide both medication management and therapy, and I believe that medication is just one of the items in a psychiatrist's toolbox and that therapy is equally important as medication.

I graduated medical school from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC, and completed my residency and child/adolescent fellowship trainings at the University of Colorado - Anschutz Medical Center in Denver, CO. Previously, I worked on the inpatient and partial hospitalization child/adolescent psychiatric units at Children's Hospital Colorado, as well as in the school-based health clinics through Denver Health in partnership with Denver Public Schools. I have also worked in community mental health at the Mental Health Cooperative clinics throughout the Middle Tennessee region, and most recently joined a private practice before joining Talkiatry. I have been named to Nashville Lifestyles Magazine's Top Doctors list in 2022, 2023, and 2024. I am a fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

My practice focuses on medication management and also employs empathic listening, supportive psychotherapy techniques, and a comprehensive and methodological approach to visits. I have experience working with patients of all ages, particularly those with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, ADHD, Tic disorders, substance use disorders, and more. I completed my undergraduate education at Emory University and attended medical school at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. I subsequently completed psychiatry residency at University of Miami/Jackson Health System and further sub-specialized there with a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. I have had the opportunity of working with a diverse array of patients including children, adolescents, the severely mentally ill, veterans, and cancer patients across three distinct hospital systems. My clinical experiences have spanned specialty inpatient psychiatry units, emergency psychiatry, consultation liaison psychiatry, psycho-oncology, and outpatient clinics via telemedicine and face to face interactions.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist and a graduate of the Duke Psychiatry residency program. I am originally from NC — I studied Neuroscience at NCSU and attended medical school at ECU. I am joining the Talkiatry team after working as a staff psychiatrist at the Durham VA, where I also served as a consulting professor for the Duke psychiatry residency program.

I hold the position of Staff Psychiatrist at Talkiatry. After finishing my undergraduate studies at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, I completed the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) Master of Science program before enrolling in medical school at the same institution. After graduating from medical school, I completed my residency at UTHSC, during which I trained in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings and treated a broad spectrum of mental health conditions.

I am a board-certified adult psychiatrist who joined Talkiatry after completing my psychiatry residency. I provide patient-centered care and understand the importance of actively involving patients in their treatment journey. I believe that every patient deserves personalized care tailored to their unique needs and circumstances. Although my practice focuses on medication management, I also provide supportive therapy and may recommend more intensive therapy when indicated. I completed my undergraduate training at The University of Texas at Austin and pursued my medical degree at The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. I am a graduate of the New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center General Psychiatry residency and the Duke University Geriatric Psychiatry fellowship programs, and I am board certified in Psychiatry by the ABPN. I received the 2023 Distinguished House Staff Award from the New York Weill Cornell Medical Center Alumni Council, which is awarded to one graduating house staff member from each department annually for excellence during training. I have conducted research on depression and PTSD, published a number of papers in peer-reviewed journals, presented posters at conferences, and written a chapter for a book on medical education. I practice in both English and German.

I completed my post-doctoral residency and fellowship training at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. I have served as an active US Army officer and recently separated from the US Army after 11 years of service. In my most recent role, I served as the Deputy Chief of the Department of Behavioral Health at Fort Campbell, KY, where I provided clinical and administrative supervision, as well as mentorship and guidance for an interdisciplinary team of over 140 personnel. I maintained oversight of behavioral health care being delivered through 11 clinics and satellite locations, providing patient care for over 30,000 beneficiaries. While in leadership, I continued to provide direct patient care for service members and dependents, including child and adolescent populations. Due to my experience with this unique population, I have extensive experience in treating individuals with trauma.

I take a biopsychosocial approach to mental health, with a focus on incorporating medication management and supportive therapy to improve my patients' quality of life. Dr. Stephanie Negrey is a board certified psychiatrist. She completed her undergraduate degree in Biology and History at Fordham University in the Bronx and then attended medical school at the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University. She completed her residency at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio as a member of the United States Air Force. Dr. Negrey served as an active duty psychiatrist; her duties included medical director of the mental health clinic at a special operations base as well as a program manager for the Air Force substance use program.

Dr. Negrey has experience treating a wide range of ages and diagnoses, with particular emphasis on personality disorders, depression, anxiety, and post traumatic stress disorder. She integrates supportive and psychodynamic therapies into her medication management appointments with a goal of achieving improvement through a holistic approach. Dr. Negrey will work with patients to reach their goals for their mental health care while also providing a compassionate and collaborative environment.

My specialties include affective and anxiety disorders, and I have specific expertise in neuropsychiatry, psychopharmacology, and alternative treatments for affective disorders. I practice psychotherapy from an Eriksonian perspective and am well versed in individual and psychodynamic psychotherapies.

I most recently served as medical director for clinical services at Erlanger Behavioral Health Hospital in Chattanooga, TN. After several years of private practice, I served as Chief of Inpatient Psychiatric Services and then as Chief of Psychiatry at Mountain Home VA Medical Center. During my time at Mountain Home VA, I was also a Professor of Psychiatry at Quillen Medical School at East Tennessee State University, where I taught General Psychiatry courses and the Neurosciences of Psychiatry. I have an extensive psychiatric background in practice and as a teacher.

I am a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a Past President of both the Tennessee Psychiatric Association and the Southern Psychiatric Association. I have been awarded a Distinguished Service Award from the United States Public Health Service. I have been twice named the Outstanding Teacher Award from the ETSU Psychiatry Residency program and was awarded Course Director of the Year for the Neurosciences residency course I developed. I also hold an Irma J. Bland Award for Excellence in Psychiatric Education from the APA.
