Steve Paschos, MD

Amber Gordon, PMHNP-BC, is a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner dedicated to providing personalized mental health care. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Administration from the University of Memphis, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Union University, and a nursing practice degree from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.

With over a decade of clinical experience, Gordon has worked in a variety of settings, including psychiatry, intensive care, and dialysis. Her psychiatric experience spans inpatient and outpatient care, as well as residential and correctional facilities. She has served diverse populations, addressing a wide range of mental health conditions such as mood disorders, anxiety disorders, substance use disorders, trauma- and stressor-related disorders, and perinatal psychiatric conditions.

Gordon’s approach to mental health emphasizes the complex interplay between mental and physical well-being, lifestyle choices, and environmental factors. She integrates conventional medicine with alternative therapies, recognizing the importance of medication while also advocating for therapy, nutrition, and lifestyle changes. This holistic philosophy reflects her belief in each patient’s unique journey to mental wellness. Dr. Maria Teresa Carvajal is an adult, child, and adolescent psychiatrist. She is originally from Guayaquil, Ecuador, and is bilingual in Spanish and English. Dr. Carvajal earned her medical degree from Universidad de Guayaquil in Ecuador. She then participated in a medical program at The William J. Harrington Training Program for Latin America and the Caribbean, at Jackson Memorial Hospital, an affiliate of the University of Miami in Florida. Afterwards, she completed her adult psychiatry residency at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, Bronx Care Health System, and her fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at Northwell Health in New York. She has experience working in various settings, including inpatient, outpatient, and emergency departments. Dr. Carvajal has submitted and presented work to the American Psychiatric Association and has also collaborated on a book publication. Dr. Carvajal has experience treating children and adults with anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, ADHD, dementia, etc. She utilizes medication management in conjunction with emotional and supportive therapy in 30-minute follow-up visits. She is passionate about her work and understands the impact of mental illnesses in daily life activities and in the family system. She will work with each patient in an individualized manner and will tailor personalized treatment plans that may include pharmacological treatment. In addition, Dr. Carvajal may recommend including a therapist in your care team to provide the best outcome.‍

Dr. Avjola Hoxha, MD, has experience practicing in both outpatient and inpatient settings. She earned her medical degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine and completed her psychiatry residency and Child and Adolescent fellowship at the University of Florida. She is board-certified and passionate about providing comprehensive, patient-centered care.

Dr. Hoxha values open communication and works collaboratively with patients to set individualized treatment goals. She creates a warm, supportive environment where patients feel heard, respected, and empowered throughout their care.

During the initial session, Dr. Hoxha thoroughly explores each patient’s history, concerns, and goals. She ensures patients fully understand treatment options and develops individualized plans aligned with their goals, always respecting patient autonomy and fostering a collaborative approach to care.

Dr. Hussain is known for his compassionate, thoughtful approach to psychiatry and his commitment to helping patients feel genuinely seen and supported. He takes pride in getting to know each person as a whole—beyond just symptoms or diagnoses—and works to build on that from the very first session. Originally from New York, Dr. Hussain completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Buffalo, earned his medical degree from St. George’s University, and completed residency training at Northwell Health in New York and Connecticut.

Dr. Hussain treats a wide range of mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, ADHD, PTSD, OCD, bipolar and psychotic disorders. His approach is collaborative and patient-centered, with a strong focus on shared decision-making. Treatment often includes medication management and therapy techniques like cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing. Sessions are always a judgment-free space where patients feel safe, respected, and empowered.

During an initial visit, Dr. Hussain conducts a thoughtful and collaborative assessment focused on understanding a patient’s symptoms, experiences, and treatment goals. From there, he works closely with each person to develop a personalized plan, including medication options and other therapeutic strategies. His goal is to create a safe, respectful space where patients feel heard, empowered, and supported throughout their care.

Dr. Seth Flesher is double board-certified in adult psychiatry and addiction medicine.  Dr. Flesher’s practice focuses on medication management of psychiatric illness without the use of controlled substances.  Typically, he offers this in conjunction with supportive or emotionally focused therapy in 30-minute follow-up visits. However, occasionally Dr. Flesher may believe that additional therapy is also needed and ask that you bring a therapist into your care team to provide the best outcome.

Before joining Talkiatry Dr. Flesher was Medical Director of Advanced Psychiatric Services [complex/high profile cases] at Kings County Hospital and Unit Chief of the Covid19 positive unit.  He was also a clinical professor at Downstate Medical College where he was voted educator of the year numerous times by psychiatric residents and medical students.  Dr. Flesher is a graduate of the prestigious combined 6-year BS/MD program at The Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education.  He did research at the neuropsychiatric branch of the National Institute of Mental Health, completed his psychiatric residency at St. Lukes/Roosevelt Hospital, and he received his master’s degree in public health from Columbia University.

Dr. Flesher believes that psychiatry should start with a thorough assessment to arrive at an accurate diagnosis.  Then a discussion with the patient of the different evidence-based options available.  Followed by shared decision-making to arrive at an effective treatment plan to achieve the goals that the patient identifies as being important.  This should be done in an honest, open, non-judgmental, but realistic environment.  Understanding that the ultimate goal is to get the patient to a position where they will no longer need medication and/or therapy.

Dr. Tanvi Gupta, a native Marylander who recently finished her fellowship training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry from the University of Maryland. She completed her residency in general psychiatry from San Antonio, Texas and is a Board Certified Psychiatrist. Prior to training, Dr. Gupta attended medical school at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine in in New York. She also holds a master's in biomedical science from Rutgers University in New Jersey and a bachelor's in public health from the University of Maryland. She is on the Early Career Psychiatrist Committee for the Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists of Greater Washington Area. Dr. Gupta has worked in various settings, ranging from academic centers, schools, state hospitals and residential treatment centers. She also provided medication management and therapy to Medicaid patients in an outpatient setting, delivering care to children and adolescents with various mental health disorders. Dr. Gupta has experience in Emergency Psychiatry as well.

Dr. Gupta greatly values connecting with her patients. She is gentle yet direct in her approach. She uses a shared decision-making process to design a treatment plan that align with her patient’s goals. Dr. Gupta provides psycho education for diagnoses and medication recommendations. She has a special interest in ADHD and trauma. She appreciates a family-based approach.

Dr. Gupta uses a comprehensive biopsychosocial evaluation, psychotherapy and medication management to treat a variety of mood disorders, anxiety disorders, as well as ADHD. Dr. Gupta promotes non-pharmaceutical interventions, when appropriate, with patient-oriented lifestyle and behavioral modifications.
