Biography

I am a board-certified psychiatrist who takes a warm, collaborative, and evidence-based approach to care. With a focus on treating mood disorders, anxiety, OCD, and substance use, I integrate psychopharmacology and psychotherapy to support patients in achieving meaningful change. I bring curiosity, creativity, and a deep respect for each individual's story to my clinical work. Patients often find me easy to talk to and appreciate my calm, thoughtful demeanor. I emphasize shared decision-making and believe that treatment works best when the patient's values and voice are at the center. I aim to create a safe space for honest dialogue and ongoing reflection as treatment evolves.

I begin with a comprehensive evaluation to understand each patient's mental health history, current concerns, and goals. I then develop an individualized treatment plan that may include medication, therapy, or both. I prefer to use the lowest effective dose of medications and often integrate psychotherapeutic strategies such as CBT, DBT, or insight-oriented work into my sessions.

Michelle Edwards, MD

Dr. Michelle Edwards is an ABPN board-certified psychiatrist specializing in general adult psychiatry, providing outpatient psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and brief psychotherapy. She completed her psychiatry residency at Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center, affiliated with Weill Cornell Medical College, and pursued subspecialty training through a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at Mount Sinai Elmhurst. She also completed continuing medical education in Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation at Duke University School of Medicine and earned her medical degree from St. George's University. She received her bachelor’s degree from University of South Florida Honors College and conducted undergraduate research in cellular biology, biophysics, and proteomics.

Dr. Edwards values open communication and takes a holistic approach to mental health care. She works collaboratively with patients to identify where medication and therapy can support meaningful progress in areas such as self-care, security, social connection, service, community, and personal enrichment. She is best suited for patients who are committed to achieving or maintaining sobriety from substances such as nicotine, tobacco, alcohol, THC/cannabis, and other recreational drugs during treatment.

Dr. Edwards begins with a thorough evaluation of current concerns, symptoms, life experiences, lifestyle factors, developmental history, family background (when known), and medical and psychiatric history to guide diagnosis and treatment planning. She encourages patients with prior medication trials to bring a list of medications, dosages, treatment duration, benefits, and side effects. Some areas may be explored further in follow-up visits as treatment progresses.

Over the past 30 years, my experience has taught me that the most important aspect of therapy is the connection and comfort you feel with the person with whom you choose to share your personal struggles. I like to listen to what patients are telling me about what is important to them and what they would like to address in therapy. We can then start to set goals together and work towards the outcomes they want. We always go at a pace that is comfortable to the client.
