She served a full career in the US Army to includes combat tours as a physician with a focus in her later military career as a psychiatrist serving with an inpatient addiction rehabilitation team. Since military retirement, her psychiatric work has included general and geriatric psychiatry. She maintains her primary care skills with medical missionary work in Central and South America and Africa.
