Biography

I believe in tailoring treatment to each person's needs, and in seeing beyond the diagnosis and focusing on the individual first and foremost. I primarily treat mood disorders, anxiety disorders, ADHD, PTSD, OCD, and insomnia. I provide a combination of medication management and supportive psychotherapy. Occasionally, I may work with you on finding additional support as well, including bringing on a dedicated therapist as part of your treatment team.

I am a board-eligible adult psychiatrist with Talkiatry. I received my medical degree from Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, then moved to Washington, D.C. to complete my residency training at Saint Elizabeths Hospital, where I served as Chief Resident during my final year. I am a member of the American Psychiatric Association (APA) and have presented at the APA Annual Meeting on the topic of virtual fatigue. I have had extensive experience working with a wide array of patients, including college/graduate students, geriatric patients, military veterans, and LGBTQ+ populations.

I continue to provide psychotherapy with an eclectic, person-centered, and non-judgmental approach, offering a safe, secure, and empathetic warm environment. My clinical approach includes CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Psychodynamic, and Trauma-Informed care. I also have experience working with the LGBT community, including relationships, intimacy issues, attachment issues, career difficulties, coaching, and compassion fatigue. As I often say, "The world can be a scary, cold, and insensitive place, and there is a lot of uncertainty going around, but together we can get through it." Although I am part of the BIPOC community, I welcome all races, creeds, and religions.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, licensed in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware, and I have been a Social Worker since 2001. I completed my B.S. in Science with a major in Criminal Justice from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in 1992. I then worked as a Correction Counselor with the NYC Department of Corrections for a few years, working with female inmates who had substance abuse problems and with adolescents, facilitating treatment recovery groups and psychoeducation. In 1998, I began working with the Administration for Children Services while pursuing my Master's Degree at Hunter College School of Social Work, where I graduated in 2001 with my MSW. For 19 years I worked as a Discharge Planner in a hospital while attending Metropolitan Institute for Mental Health to study in the Adult Psychoanalytic Division. In 2012, I switched gears and began working as a Behavioral Health Care Manager, while also starting my own private practice, called "Live the Life you Want," because I strongly believe that all individuals should live their own lives the way they want to and desire. In 2022, I received a two-year certificate in Integrated Trauma from the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy, where I received training in EMDR and Somatic Experiencing, and I am currently working toward a certification as an Accelerated Experiential Psychodynamic Psychotherapist, an experiential model that seeks to alleviate patients' psychological suffering by helping them process the overwhelming emotions associated with trauma, depression, and anxiety. I have been in the mental health field for over 30 years.
