Ryan Harris, MD

Staff Psychiatrist

Dr. Ryan Rasmus Harris (she/her) is a board-certified psychiatrist specializing in caring for adults. Her educational journey began at Spelman College in Atlanta, GA, where she graduated with a degree in Psychology. She received her Doctor of Medicine from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, MA and completed residency training at Indiana University School of Medicine, where she served as Chief Resident in her final year. After completing her training, she joined the faculty at Indiana University School of Medicine and gained valuable experience providing outpatient psychiatric care that was evidence-based, trauma-informed, and grounded in the principles of cultural humility.

Dr. Harris believes effective mental health care begins with a genuine connection and strives to foster this connection by listening attentively to each person’s unique experiences, understanding their personal challenges, and working collaboratively to develop a tailored treatment plan that meets their needs. Treatment plans often include a combination of lifestyle modifications, therapy, and medication, when indicated. Dr. Harris routinely integrates therapy into each visit, but enhancing the treatment team through a referral to a therapist may be recommended. Her goal is to use a person-centered approach to identify the most effective strategies to address each individual's presenting concerns, recognizing that each journey is unique.

During the first visit, Dr. Harris will complete a thorough diagnostic evaluation. This will involve an in-depth clinical interview where Dr. Harris will ask questions about the presenting concerns and symptoms and the use of validated rating-scales. Integrating this information with medical history, family history, and information about an individual’s early life experiences and their current challenges broadens her understanding of the presenting problem and informs her approach to treatment.
