Biography

My practice focuses on child and adolescent medication management. I typically offer this in conjunction with supportive or emotionally focused therapy in 30-minute follow-up visits. Occasionally, however, I may believe that additional therapy is needed and will ask that you bring a therapist into your care team to provide the best outcome. I provide treatment plans that include holistic recommendations for diet, exercise, and educational and psychosocial/spiritual aspects of care. I am known for listening to and respecting patients' stories and walking them on a path of recovery and growth.

I am a staff psychiatrist at Talkiatry and am double board certified in child and adolescent psychiatry and adult psychiatry. I received my medical degree from the Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, and my Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy from The Ohio State University. Prior to attending medical school, I practiced for 14 years in physical therapy with a specialization in children with developmental and neurological disabilities. I have held multiple positions in hospital and outpatient psychiatry, including community mental health, developmental and foster care settings, and medical director positions. I have also served as clinical faculty for both the Wright State Department of Psychiatry and the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine. I have a passion for the education of medical students, residents, and patients.

I bring my full humanity to treatment and honor the role of spirituality, recognizing body, mind, and spirit as essential to healing. I embrace creativity and encourage openness to new perspectives and solutions. I spend more time listening than talking and view myself as a guide and teacher rather than a director. I work to build a collaborative partnership focused on the patient's goals and may offer recommendations, while emphasizing that each person remains responsible for their own growth and progress.

I earned my medical degree from Northeast Ohio Medical University and completed Psychiatry Residency and Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center. I have practiced in inpatient, intensive outpatient, and outpatient settings and have subspecialty training in Addiction Psychiatry, Addiction Medicine, and treatment of co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. I am also a Gestalt Professional Certified Coach through the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland.

I pride myself on my ability to empathize with my patients and meet them exactly where they are in their journey. I believe that trust is the foundation of the therapeutic relationship and work diligently to create a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where patients feel safe, heard, and respected. In the initial evaluation, I focus on gathering comprehensive information to form a complete understanding of each patient's unique background and needs. From there, I develop an individualized treatment plan that aligns with the patient's prioritized goals. Each session begins from that foundation, allowing me to support patients at their own pace as trust deepens and progress unfolds.

I have worked in the mental health field for over 30 years following the completion of my Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Suffolk University in Boston. I began my career as a mental health technician in a geriatric residential program and later pursued additional education in nursing, earning an Associate Degree in Nursing from Quincy College, a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from South University, and a Master's in Nursing from Eastern Kentucky University. Over the years, I have held diverse roles in adult and children's case management, residential and intensive outpatient programs, inpatient psychiatric care, and crisis stabilization. I have provided care in both inpatient and outpatient settings as well as through hospital consult services across the country.

I provide care through a warm, direct, and nonjudgmental style. I take a biopsychosocial approach, recognizing the interplay of biological, psychological, and social factors in mental health. By combining psychopharmacology, patient education, and brief supportive therapy, I offer care that is accessible, collaborative, and authentic. Patients can expect to feel heard, respected, and actively involved in their treatment decisions. I begin with a comprehensive consultation to understand each patient's history, concerns, and goals, which may take several appointments before finalizing a treatment plan. Plans may include lab work, collaboration with a patient's broader health care team, and involvement of supportive family members if desired. My goal is to create individualized care tailored to patient needs while ensuring comfort, advocacy, and trust. I emphasize that patients are never defined by a diagnosis but valued as whole individuals.

I have been dedicated to health care for over 22 years. My journey began in 2003 when I enlisted in the Air Force as a medic and later served as a nurse in the Department of Defense. I earned my bachelor's degree in Nursing from Indiana State University, was commissioned as a Nurse Officer in the U.S. Public Health Service, and went on to complete my master's at Gonzaga University. Inspired by my work as a psychiatric RN, I pursued my calling in mental health and became board certified as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in 2017.

Treatment plans are tailored and flexible, evolving to meet each patient's unique needs while supporting long-term growth and well-being.

I believe therapy is both a journey and a destination. My therapeutic approach integrates psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, interpersonal, strengths-based, dialectical behavioral, and EMDR modalities. I am dedicated to providing culturally sensitive, neurodivergent-friendly, person-centered care to support individuals and families navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, panic attacks, grief, family conflict, and life transitions. I take an eclectic approach, tailoring interventions and communication to best fit each patient's needs and preferences. Through motivational interviewing and narrative techniques, I help individuals articulate their stories, identify strengths, and reframe challenges as opportunities for growth. I am committed to meeting patients where they are while supporting them in reaching their goals.

My process begins with building rapport, listening to each patient's story, and understanding their unique needs and hopes for therapy. Early sessions focus on creating a safe, supportive space while developing a treatment plan tailored to the individual. Patients can expect an atmosphere of warmth, empathy, and collaboration, as well as fresh perspectives, practical coping strategies, and deeper self-awareness. My goal is for patients to feel heard, understood, and empowered as they strengthen relationships, build resilience, and move toward a greater sense of fulfillment.

I began my journey in mental healthcare with a Bachelor's in Psychology followed by a Master of Social Work degree. From 2015 to 2018, I completed my clinical hours at a community mental health agency in Los Angeles, where I gained experience working with diverse populations facing complex challenges.
