Biography

I am board certified in Adult psychiatry. My approach to mental health is integrative, with the utilization of complementary and alternative treatments such as yoga, lifestyle changes, and nutritional interventions in addition to traditional medication management and therapy. I prefer to focus on the overall health and well-being of an individual, rather than just treating symptoms. My practice focuses on medication management along with elements of therapy from different modalities, such as supportive and cognitive behavioral therapy, that are patient-tailored. I understand the importance of psychotherapy and may ask to bring in a therapist into your treatment team to provide the best care and outcome. My clinical interests include depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, panic disorder, OCD, and ADHD.

After completing my undergraduate degree in Biology at Ohio Northern University, I received my medical degree from Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. I went on to complete my residency in psychiatry at The Ohio State University Medical Center. I also completed yoga teacher training and presented nationally at the APA in 2019 regarding the benefits of yoga for depression. I am a member of the American Psychiatric Association, Ohio Psychiatric Physician's Association, and Psychiatry Society of Central Ohio.

I believe effective treatment begins with understanding a patient's life experiences and perspective. I take time to explore how patients see their challenges and what is or is not working for them. While medication can be an important tool, I do not focus on medication alone and value open discussion about its benefits and concerns. I prioritize understanding how patients are functioning across all areas of life and strongly value a collaborative approach, viewing treatment as a partnership built on shared decision-making. I begin with a thorough evaluation that includes medical and family history, ensuring that underlying medical issues are not overlooked. The first visit is also an opportunity to build rapport and help patients feel comfortable. Together, my patients and I develop a treatment plan aligned with their goals. I recognize that goals evolve over time and work collaboratively to adjust treatment as part of the ongoing growth process.

I grew up in Kentucky and have trained and practiced in a wide range of clinical settings. My experience spans inpatient and outpatient care, community mental health, state hospitals, addiction clinics, VA hospitals, and academic medicine. I became board certified in addiction medicine in 2019, deepening my understanding of how addiction affects individuals and families. I have also worked extensively with patients experiencing Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, including both military- and civilian-related trauma. I carefully rule out underlying physical conditions that may impact mental health and cognitive functioning, and collaborate with patients to identify lifestyle changes that can support their well-being. Treatment plans are tailored, evidence-based, and designed to be practical and achievable.

I value creating a safe and nonjudgmental space where patients can speak openly about their experiences and goals. I believe in a collaborative approach, working with patients to discover strategies that best suit their lives. I also take into account lifestyle factors that may influence mental health, supporting a well-rounded and sustainable path to wellness.

I begin care with a comprehensive conversation about current concerns, past mental health, physical health, and life experiences. From there, I work with patients to create a personalized treatment plan, whether through therapy, medication, lifestyle adjustments, or a combination. Follow-ups focus on refining the plan to ensure it continues to support the patient's journey.

I earned my medical degree with honors and completed my residency in Adult Psychiatry at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. I have worked across a wide range of clinical settings, including inpatient, outpatient, community clinics, and state hospitals. I am also trained in multiple psychotherapy modalities, equipping me to meet diverse patient needs.

I bring a casual, easygoing communication style to create a comfortable space where patients feel at ease. I emphasize forming strong therapeutic bonds based on trust, and I combine supportive therapy with medication management. I encourage collaboration with therapists and use evidence-based treatment approaches tailored to each individual's needs. I begin with a thorough understanding of each patient's concerns, history, and goals, then create a personalized treatment plan and work collaboratively with the patient to reach those goals, adjusting care as needed for ongoing progress.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist with experience in both outpatient and inpatient psychiatry, as well as addiction medicine. I completed my medical degree at Morehouse School of Medicine and trained at University Hospitals Case Medical Center, where I completed general psychiatry residency and fellowships in addiction and community psychiatry. My experience includes roles in community mental health, academic teaching, and the VA system.

Outside of work, I enjoy music production, soccer, spending time with loved ones, and all dogs.

My goal when working with patients is to not come to a generic diagnosis; rather, it is to get to know about the client and try and manage their symptoms in the best way possible. Overall, the process is collaborative, and both parties need to be comfortable with the decisions moving forward. I enjoy getting to learn about patients and working collaboratively to provide the best treatment possible, be it medications or talk therapy. I have vast experience treating Major Depressive Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, PTSD, among many others.

I graduated residency from University Hospitals/Case Western Reserve University in 2015. After residency, I worked at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center as a staff psychiatrist. I eventually took on the role of Mental Health Lead Psychiatrist and Interim Clinic Director at the Tomball VA Outpatient Clinic. I then transferred to a telepsychiatry role at VISN 15, providing mental health coverage for rural areas in Kansas, Missouri, and Illinois. I have over 15 years of experience in treating different mental health conditions and am currently board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

I reside in Houston, Texas and enjoy spending time with my family, being outdoors, and watching/playing sports such as Football, Basketball, and Soccer.

I believe in a holistic approach to mental health that addresses lifestyle factors alongside medication management. I value the importance of both therapy and medication in treating mental illness. I take a collaborative approach to care and strive to involve my patients in every step of the treatment process. I believe in creating a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where patients can openly discuss their concerns. While my focus is on medication management, I often recommend incorporating additional therapy into the treatment plan and may ask that patients work with a therapist to help achieve the best outcomes. I work closely with my patients to develop personalized treatment plans, and I believe in open communication, shared decision-making, and taking into account the whole person when addressing mental health concerns. My goal is to ensure that patients feel heard, supported, and actively engaged in their care.

I am a staff psychiatrist at Talkiatry. I was born and raised in Queens, NY. I completed my undergraduate education at New York University, followed by medical school at SUNY Downstate College of Medicine in Brooklyn, NY. I went on to complete my psychiatry residency at Stony Brook University Hospital, where I received an award for academic achievement.

Rather than focus primarily on illness or problems, my approach is to first evaluate patients comprehensively, then utilize what's learned from this to treat and empower them to make and then practice choices that lead to improved health and well-being, using an integrative model that recognizes that mental, physical, social, and spiritual health are one.

I am American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology certified and a fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. A skilled psychopharmacologist and psychotherapist, I have over 30 years' experience successfully helping people overcome a diverse range of emotional, psychiatric, and addiction challenges.

I was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and am a graduate of Augustana College. I obtained my MD at the USD School of Medicine. My residency was at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) in Little Rock, where I was trained in both psychotherapy and biological management of psychiatric challenges. Following residency training, I continued to work with UAMS and the State of Arkansas in research and program development, focusing on implementing and then teaching novel strengths-focused care for people with severe mental illness for the first 12 years of my career. Later, I moved with my wife and three children to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and have since been in clinical practice and leadership roles in inpatient, outpatient, and telehealth psychiatric care settings.

My clinical interests include mood and anxiety disorders, PTSD, and OCD. I am passionate about incorporating psychotherapeutic tools into my practice, including supportive psychotherapy. I take a warm, collaborative, and nonjudgmental approach to care, and my goal is to create a safe and supportive space where patients feel heard and empowered to take an active role in their treatment, using a combination of supportive psychotherapy and medication management.

I am a general psychiatrist who holds a bachelor's degree in psychology. I completed my psychiatry training at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.

During the first few sessions, I will take time to get to know the patient, their history, current concerns, and what they hope to achieve through treatment. Together, we will develop a comprehensive plan that may include psychiatric medications and supportive therapy. Follow-up visits are typically focused on checking in, adjusting treatments if necessary, and continuing to build on progress.

I am an outpatient psychiatrist with experience treating a wide variety of disorders across multiple distinct age groups. I strongly believe in the practice of evidence-based medicine, utilizing the most current research to guide recommendations. I am a strong advocate for patient autonomy and therefore provide psychoeducation on diagnoses and medications so that each patient can make informed decisions which align with their own values. I approach each patient in the context of their individual interests, family dynamics, and life goals. I understand that not every patient requires or desires medication and am comfortable in a number of psychotherapy techniques including cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and supportive therapy. I emphasize a trusting and honest therapeutic relationship with my patients.

I completed my undergraduate education at the University of Pittsburgh, graduating summa cum laude while majoring in neuroscience. I attended medical school at the Ohio State University College of Medicine, where I was granted an annual merit scholarship. I then remained at the OSU Wexner Medical Center for residency training. During residency, I developed a particular interest in working with young adults, college students, and athletes, but am comfortable with patients of all ages.

Outside of psychiatry, I enjoy numerous interests including soccer, hockey, music, photography, and video games.

I like to work with patients on a customized treatment plan with active patient participation. Treatment goals are defined and updated as needed in follow-up visits. I encourage my patients to ask questions and learn more about their condition; communication and education are essential for treatment success. My areas of interest include mood and anxiety disorders, cognitive and neuropsychiatric disorders, PTSD, bipolar disorder, OCD, psychopharmacology, treatment-resistant conditions (depression), and psychoeducation to improve treatment compliance.

I joined Talkiatry as a general adult psychiatrist. I earned my medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Cairo, Egypt, and completed my residency in general psychiatry at Case Western Reserve University and MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio. I have practiced psychiatry for 30 years in a variety of settings: hospitals, inpatient and consultation-liaison to other medical services, private practice, and outpatient care treating adults, geriatric patients, and adolescents. I have also provided geropsychiatric consultations to long-term care facilities and assisted living.

For new patients, I will conduct an initial evaluation; providing treatment records can be helpful. I will share treatment options with the patient and create a custom treatment plan. Follow-up appointments are scheduled every two weeks at the beginning of treatment.

I believe that each individual's background plays a significant role in their mental health, and that understanding a patient's personal story is critical to their healing journey. I believe in a respectful, collaborative relationship built on trust and open communication. While I integrate evidence-based medication management when clinically appropriate, I also emphasize the therapeutic benefit of addressing lifestyle, relationships, and internal narratives. I begin care with a thorough evaluation, exploring developmental history, impactful life events, and emotional patterns. From there, I develop a comprehensive treatment plan that may include medications, wellness strategies, and therapist collaboration. I consider each patient's strengths and challenges to guide care that promotes long-term recovery and personal growth.

I completed my psychiatry residency at TriStar Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, where I served as Chief Resident. I earned my medical degree from Western University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific Northwest in Oregon, where I studied osteopathic medicine, which shaped my holistic view of health. I completed an intern year in Family Medicine at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences West. I hold a bachelor's degree in chemistry and biology from the University of Arkansas, where I graduated with honors.

Outside of work, I enjoy hiking, backpacking, visiting national parks, and spending time with my senior dog.

I treat patients of various ages, and in addition to medication management I am a strong proponent of therapy in various forms. My approach to the treatment of adults and children/adolescents incorporates the impact of various things such as family history of mental health/medical conditions as well as any adverse childhood experiences/trauma. In addition to screening for common conditions such as bipolar disorder, anxiety, and depression in all patients, I also emphasize the importance of screening for conditions that can manifest in childhood (such as ADHD, Autism) as well as first-episode psychosis in young adults. From the initial visit and onward, I prioritize a collaborative effort with my patients (and at times their families). In addition to medication adjustments, I emphasize the importance of optimizing additional tools such as therapy while making appropriate lifestyle changes. During every follow-up visit, I take care to ensure that the current treatment is not hindering my patient's progress in any way.

I am board certified in both General Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. I completed my undergraduate studies at Stony Brook University and attended medical school at the American University of Integrative Sciences. I also hold an MBA from Davenport University. I completed my psychiatry residency training at Bergen New Bridge Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center/Case Western Reserve University, where I served as Chief Fellow. Prior to joining Talkiatry, I trained and worked across a combination of various healthcare systems in New York, New Jersey, Ohio, and Kentucky.

What has motivated me over the course of my career as a caregiver? I am a native Houstonian who grew up in a working-class community. Through curiosity and hard work, I was able to attend a university that included people of vastly different life experiences. I was molded by both communities to appreciate the commonalities of humanity. That broad exposure extended my empathetic spectrum to grasp the needs of the American diaspora.

I use a biopsychosocial approach to evaluate the patient. I gather patient history with a mindset that considers the neuroscience that chemically shapes mood, thoughts, and behavior. I am able to uncover factors that can inhibit psychological growth and development. I have experience in seeing how the social conditions of the œthen can influence the resiliency of the œnow. I appreciate, and am proficient in, advances in technology, but prioritize the analog relationship between doctor and patient.

Meeting people where they are. It is an old trope, but describes how one allows a patient to set the path forward. An open-ended interview is conducted with an open mind towards resolution. When being evaluated and treated by me, a patient can expect to be met in a cordial but professional manner. Treatments are discussed and considered based on the mental state of the patient and the clinical efficacy and scientific evidence of benefit. The patient is invited to ask questions and consider whether they wish to pursue the suggested treatment plan.
