Amy Prince, MD

Dr. Amy Prince is a board-certified adult psychiatrist who graduated from SUNY Downstate Medical Center and completed her residency training at UMass Medical Center, where she served as chief resident during her final year. Dr. Prince has worked with patients in a variety of treatment settings, including inpatient, partial hospital programs, community mental health centers, and outpatient. Dr. Prince believes that integrating therapy, psychopharmacology and lifestyle modifications can lead to the greatest gains in emotional wellness. She believes that working collaboratively with patients leads to the best outcome. Dr Prince has worked with a diverse patient population, but especially enjoys working with patients with mood disorders, anxiety, and ADHD. Dr. Prince offers supportive therapy in conjunction with psychopharmacology. In cases in which a patient would benefit from more intensive therapy than what could be done in 20-25 minute visits, Dr Prince may recommend adjunctive therapy with a licensed therapist.

Richard Shehane, MD

Dr. Richard Shehane completed medical school at the University of Nevada School of Medicine and then went on to complete psychiatry residency training at Naval Medical Center San Diego. Dr. Shehane is a board-certified psychiatrist that specializes in the treatment of depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, personality disorders and ADHD. Dr. Shehane has also worked extensively with patients that have experienced sexual trauma in their past and patients struggling with substance and alcohol use addictions.

Dr. Shehane will focus on two main approaches to mental health treatment: medication management and psychotherapy. Appointments will focus on a mix of interactions aimed at tailoring each patient’s specific medication needs as well as promoting mental health wellness through different types of evidence-based therapy techniques including mindfulness, CBT, CPT and psychodynamic psychotherapy.

Dr. Shehane works together patients to develop a plan that fits each patient’s individual needs. Initial appointments will focus on identifying and treating primary concerns, and then later appointments will center on building upon the therapeutic relationship to increase self-awareness, promote emotional insight, and secure lasting positive mental health changes.

Gabrielle Amada, MD

Dr. Amada holds the position of staff psychiatrist at Talkiatry. She was born and raised in Queens, NY. She completed her undergraduate education at New York University, followed by medical school at SUNY Downstate College of Medicine in Brooklyn, NY. She went on to complete her psychiatry residency at Stony Brook University Hospital, where she received an award for academic achievement. Dr. Amada believes in a holistic approach to mental health that addresses lifestyle factors alongside medication management. She values the importance of both therapy and medication in treating mental illness.

Dr. Amada takes a collaborative approach to care and strives to involve her patients in every step of the treatment process. She believes in creating a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where patients can openly discuss their concerns. While her focus is on medication management, she often recommends incorporating additional therapy into the treatment plan and may ask that patients work with a therapist to help achieve the best outcomes.

Dr. Amada works closely with her patients to develop personalized treatment plans. She believes in open communication, shared decision-making, and taking into account the whole person when addressing mental health concerns. Her goal is to ensure that patients feel heard, supported, and actively engaged in their care.

Karel Routhier, MD

Dr. Routhier was born in Quebec, Canada. She attended medical school at Ross University School of Medicine and graduated in three years with high honors. She trained as a psychiatry resident at Case Western Reserve School of Medicine in Cleveland, OH where she served as a junior attending and the medical student coordinator. She then was recruited by Monterey County Behavioral Health, CA as a clinical psychiatrist where she provided medication management and psychotherapy services to over 400 patients over the course of five years. She also created and led two dialectical behavior therapy groups for teens and young adults while training therapists and social workers to become group facilitators.

Dr. Routhier firmly believes in the mind-body connection. She feels that when the mind suffers, the body hurts as well and vice versa. As a result, she has developed a holistic approach to psychiatry and is comfortable offering a wide array of treatment modalities such as breathwork, dialectical behavior therapy, guided meditation, supportive psychotherapy, behavioral activation and medication management. She maintains that autonomy and a thorough understanding of one’s diagnosis and prognosis are critical for progress and healing. Her broad range of worldly experiences gives her the ability to work in a non judgemental, open-minded and authentic fashion. She connects with clients with ease and is passionate about self-awareness, constant evolution and empowering people so they can find their own way to happiness and health. Adela Stroescu, MD

Dr. Adela Stroescu is a board-certified psychiatrist with seven years of clinical experience treating adults in both outpatient and inpatient settings. She specializes in mood disorders, psychosis, anxiety, PTSD, and ADHD. Dr. Stroescu earned her medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine and completed her psychiatry residency at the University of Maryland/Sheppard Pratt. She speaks English and conversational Romanian.

Dr. Stroescu fosters a respectful, non-judgmental space where communication is clear, and care is recovery oriented. She prioritizes building a therapeutic relationship grounded in empathy and trust to support each patient’s unique path to wellness.

Alana Ward, PMHNP

Staff Nurse Practitioner

Alana Ward is a board certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP). Alan has been practicing since 2018 and has experience with individuals of all ages. Prior to becoming a PMHNP, Alana worked as a registered nurse in critical care and psychiatry. As a PMHNP, she has experience working on inpatient adult and geriatric psychiatric units, as well as providing psychiatric evaluations and consultations to individuals on medical units and emergency rooms at hospitals. Alana is very experienced working in outpatient settings managing various psychiatric diagnoses. She has also helped manage individuals in long term care facilities and assisted living facilities. When Alana is not providing direct patient care, she will on occasion help with instructing future nurses at Kent State University. Alana graduated with her Master's of Science in Nursing from Kent State University, and is board certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner through the American Nurse Credentialing Center. Alana enjoys treating a variety of mental health diagnoses including depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, mood disorders such as bipolar disorder, and various psychotic disorders. She believes in client-centered care, where clients get a say in their treatment in order to help make them feel their best. Alana truly believes that therapy is a crucial part of successfully treating any mental health diagnosis, in combination with medication management when warranted. Alana likes to add mindfulness and cognitive behavioral therapy techniques to her medication management appointments to help individuals receive effective, quality care.

Faizan Syed, MD

Dr. Faizan Syed is a board-certified attending psychiatrist who graduated from St. George's University School of Medicine in 2012. He completed his residency in adult psychiatry at Creedmoor Psychiatric Center, an affiliate of Columbia University, in June 2016 .Dr. Syed was born in Karachi, Pakistan, and has lived transnationally in the United States, the Caribbean, the United Kingdom, and the Middle East throughout his life. He is currently based in Queens, NY, and alongside his professional development in his career as a psychiatrist, he has also worked to develop himself personally through writing. As a poet, essayist, and author, he has been published numerous times, and he maintains connections with his community through his participation in a group known as the Queens Poetic Alchemy Collective. He has spoken out publicly against the cultural stigma against mental health that has become a barrier to seeking and finding help. He has also been featured on Humans of New York. Dr. Syed believes strongly in the power and importance of psychotherapy as part of the therapeutic process. As such, he integrates individualized psychotherapy for each patient he sees and tailors various techniques to suit each patient's needs. He believes in an integrative, holistic approach that borrows from and blends various schools of psychology, philosophy, and neuroscience, including mindfulness, existentialism, cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical therapy, psychodynamics, genetics, and psychopharmacology. In addition, he is a great believer in the therapeutic power of the arts, whether it is visual arts, music, bibliotherapy, or expressive writing. Dr. Syed focuses on exploring the role of meaning in every patient's life so they can define and fulfill their potential in many areas of life.
