If my visit is virtual, why does my psychiatrist need to be licensed in my state?

There are two reasons. The first has to do with medical laws. In the U.S., doctors are licensed by state, meaning they need to apply individually for all the places they’d like to practice. A doctor can be licensed in multiple states, but in order to provide care to you, they legally need to be licensed in your state. During our online assessment, we ask where you live so we can match you with a psychiatrist who’s licensed where you live.

The second is in case of an emergency. If something happens during your visit and your doctor thinks you need medical help, we need to know where to send it.
