I believe in building a strong therapeutic alliance grounded in empathy, respect, and curiosity. I value collaboration and open communication, ensuring that patients feel like active partners in their care. My goal is to create a safe, supportive space where individuals feel understood as whole people, not defined solely by their symptoms. My goal is to create a safe, judgment-free space where you will feel comfortable and heard. I understand that having a strong therapeutic alliance is equally as important as accurate diagnosing and medication management. I strongly believe in a patient-centered model, in which medical decision-making is driven by patient preferences. My job is to empower patients to make informed decisions regarding their mental health. While working together, I will get to know you and will be open to you sharing as much or as little about yourself as you would like.

I was born and raised in Charleston, SC. I attended the College of Charleston for undergraduate studies, where I double majored in Psychology and Spanish. I then completed medical school, General Psychiatry Residency, and Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina. I am the first member of my family to become a physician. My passion for mental health and my desire to help others are what paved the way for me to become a well-trained and highly motivated psychiatrist.

My current practice is primarily focused on medication treatment, though I utilize my training as a therapist to ensure that patients feel understood and empowered to discuss any other issues they might be facing. With experience in many modalities of therapy including Psychodynamic, Supportive, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), I know that one size does NOT always fit all. If more in-depth therapy is felt to be beneficial, I may refer clients to a separate therapist.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist who completed my psychiatry residency at Duke University, where I received extensive training in Psychopharmacology, Psychotherapy (Talk Therapy), Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), and Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT). I have also practiced in multiple settings including a college mental health clinic, an adult ADHD clinic, a perinatal psychiatry clinic, a VA hospital, and a residential recovery program.

Throughout my life, I have lived in various places such as China, Canada, Upstate New York, Maine, and North Carolina, where I currently reside. This rich cultural experience allows me to connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds, which is crucial in the field of psychiatry where treatment is so highly personal.

Although I specialize in medication management of psychiatric conditions, supportive psychotherapy is often incorporated into my visits, as I believe a combined approach leads to a more robust treatment response. Additionally, I aim to enhance wellness through discussion of lifestyle modifications that emphasize quality sleep, a healthy diet, and regular exercise.

Initial appointments consist of a psychiatric evaluation and discussion of evidence-based treatment options. If telehealth is deemed to be an appropriate modality and pharmacotherapy is recommended, discussion will consist of selecting a suitable medication to address target symptoms while minimizing adverse effects. Follow-up visits focus on assessing treatment response and adjusting regimens to optimize outcomes.

I earned my medical degree from the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson and completed my residency at the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix. I am board-certified in psychiatry and provide care for adult patient populations. Prior to my career in medicine, I proudly served in the U.S. Air Force.
