Psychiatrists in Indiana

Michael Dicharry, MD

Michael Dicharry, MD

Staff Psychiatrist

Michael Dicharry, MD is a board-certified psychiatrist who has spent much of his career addressing urgent patient needs. Through work with crisis teams and behavioral health emergencies, he has primarily treated depression, mood disorders, and complications related to substance use. He earned his medical degree and completed his psychiatry residency at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, and is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Dr. Dicharry believes the foundation of effective psychiatry is a trusting relationship. He provides a judgment-free environment with open communication, focusing on the issues causing distress or dysfunction. He values collaboration and ongoing feedback to support progress while helping prevent complications.

Dr. Dicharry believes patients provide essential insight into their history. He reviews prior diagnoses, symptoms, treatments, and personal goals to guide informed decisions. Together, they identify what has and hasn't worked to create a treatment plan that promotes lasting improvement and stability.

Dr. Surinderpal Kahlon, MD

Staff Psychiatrist

I provide medication management along with supportive therapy. In some cases I may refer you to a counselor or therapist for further care and collaboration. I have experience treating a wide range of conditions, including major depressive disorder, panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and PTSD. I utilize a well-rounded approach to treat the whole person, through medication, active listening, and recommending talk-centered counseling programs.

I am an experienced Psychiatrist who spent the last 24 years of my career working in Veterans Affairs, where I was able to treat a wide variety of patients. I was trained in the VA system associated with Chicago Medical School (Finch University), located in North Chicago, Illinois. At the conclusion of my training, I was hired at the VA in Danville, Illinois until 2021. I also had a part-time private practice, which enhanced my experience in adult psychiatry. I graduated from a prestigious medical school that has consistently held a high position (4th) among the top 100 medical schools in the world.

Find a psychiatrist in Indiana

You shouldn’t have to wait weeks for a psychiatrist in Indiana. With Talkiatry, you meet a psychiatrist licensed in Indiana over secure video, so you can be seen from home in Fort Wayne, Evansville, or anywhere across the state. Many patients get a first appointment in days, with no commute and no long search for a provider taking new patients.

How online psychiatry works in Indiana

You start by answering a few questions online, then get matched with a psychiatrist licensed in Indiana. Because your psychiatrist holds an Indiana license, you can meet from wherever you are in the state on the day of your visit, from home and on your own schedule.

Your first appointment lasts 60 minutes, which gives you time to talk through your symptoms, ask questions, and work with your psychiatrist on a plan. Follow-up visits usually run about 30 minutes to review how you are doing and adjust that plan as needed.

What a psychiatrist in Indiana can help with

Talkiatry psychiatrists treat a wide range of conditions and tailor care to what you are dealing with. Common reasons Indiana residents reach out include:

  • Anxiety, including panic, constant worry, and physical symptoms like a racing heart
  • Depression, including low mood, loss of interest, and trouble with sleep or energy
  • ADHD, including trouble focusing, restlessness, and difficulty following through

Psychiatrists are medical doctors, so they can prescribe and manage medication when it fits your situation. Medication is one possible part of a plan, not an automatic result of a visit. Depending on your needs and what is available to you, talk therapy may also be part of how your psychiatrist supports you.

Does insurance cover a psychiatrist in Indiana?

Talkiatry is in-network with major insurers, so many Indiana patients use their existing coverage for online psychiatry. During your free assessment, your coverage is verified before you schedule, so you know where you stand up front. What you pay out of pocket depends on your specific plan, so check with your insurer for an estimate.

Getting mental health care in Indiana

Finding a psychiatrist in Indiana can take time because the state does not have enough of them. Indiana has 107 designated mental health professional shortage areas covering about 6.06 million people, and only about 39.9% of the need for psychiatric care is currently met. Federal estimates suggest roughly 222 more practitioners would be needed to lift those shortage designations (KFF).

For you, that shortage often means long waitlists and few local openings. Online psychiatry helps by connecting you with a psychiatrist licensed anywhere in Indiana, rather than limiting you to the providers who happen to be near your home.
