Psychiatrists in Vermont

Austin Lin, MD

Dr. Austin Lin, MD

Staff Psychiatrist

At the center of my clinical approach is a strong emphasis on establishing trust and using a collaborative approach to help patients develop an individualized and cohesive plan so that they are able to achieve their goals. My practice focuses on medication management, which I typically offer in conjunction with supportive therapy, motivational interviewing, and/or cognitive behavioral therapy in 30-minute follow-up visits. Occasionally, I may recommend that additional therapy is needed and ask that you bring a therapist into your care team in order to provide the best outcome. I specialize in treating patients with a history of depression, anxiety, trauma, and substance use disorders.

I am a double board-certified adult and addiction psychiatrist who has been in practice for over 9 years. I received my medical degree from St. George's University School of Medicine. I went on to complete my residency in psychiatry at Harvard South Shore, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School, where I served as Chief Resident and earned my 360° Professionalism award. I then had additional training in Addiction Psychiatry through my fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

After completing training, I worked as an Addiction Psychiatrist and Director of Adult Services in the Trauma and Resilience Center (TRC) at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth). I have held an academic appointment at UTHealth, and I have spent my professional career supervising and teaching medical students and psychiatry residents.

My practice focuses on medication management, which I typically offer in conjunction with supportive or insight-oriented therapy in 30-minute follow-up visits. My primary focus is treating adult outpatients with mood or psychotic disorders, though I have treated a wide range of adult patients throughout my career. On occasion, I will determine that additional therapy is also needed and ask that you bring a therapist into your care team to provide the best outcome.

I am board-certified in Adult Psychiatry and have been practicing for over 25 years. I completed my undergraduate studies at Tufts University, received my medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA, and continued with Temple for my residency in adult psychiatry. After completing training, I worked at Cooper Hospital in Camden, NJ as Associate Director of Consultation/Liaison Service and Psychiatry Residency Training and Co-Director of the Neuropsychiatry Clinic. I then began working exclusively in outpatient settings, joined NewPoint Behavioral Health Care, and served as Medical Director before and after their merge with Acenda Integrated Health. I currently hold the position of Staff Psychiatrist at Talkiatry.

My approach to patients emphasizes holistic, patient-centered, strength-based treatment built on a foundation of strong doctor-patient alliance and evidence-based medical knowledge. I value transparent communication and will work with you to create change. I treat patients as unique individuals, and treatment is put into place with individualized plans in mind. Your appointment with me will be a conversation. I am there to work towards goals together and am a good translator of "medical-ese." I enjoy working with patients on all aspects of their health and cater treatment plans to you.

I attended Yale University, where I studied philosophy in the Great Books Program, and later studied Molecular Biology at the University of Colorado, where my husband and I moved after getting married. I received my medical degree from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Program and completed my residency at Dartmouth Medical School. I also trained at Massachusetts General Hospital with Dr. Theodore Stern in his area of expertise (Consult Psychiatry) and learned from his immense skill at building strong rapport with all patients. I have experience in inpatient and outpatient settings, along with teaching and research. I have also worked in hospital administration and government entities, most importantly the Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee.

My approach to care is patient-centered, holistic, empathic, evidence-based, and culturally competent. I value building trust and fostering an environment where patients feel heard, supported, and empowered in their care. I hold a special interest in college-age populations, women's and reproductive health, trauma-related care, nutritional psychiatry, and psychodynamic psychotherapy and psychopharmacology.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist with experience caring for patients across all age groups in both inpatient and outpatient settings. I earned my medical degree from Northeast Ohio Medical University and completed my psychiatry residency at OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital.

In the initial session, I take time to understand each patient's history, concerns, and goals. I carefully rule out underlying physical conditions that may impact mental health and cognitive functioning, and collaborate with patients to identify lifestyle changes that can support their well-being. Treatment plans are tailored, evidence-based, and designed to be practical and achievable.

Martha Coetzee, MD

Dr. Martha Coetzee, MD

Staff Psychiatrist

I take a patient-centered, bio-psycho-social approach to care. I value open communication and actively encourage both positive and constructive feedback to guide treatment. I strive to create a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental environment where patients feel heard, respected, and validated throughout their care. I prioritize building a strong therapeutic relationship, and I conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, gather collateral information when appropriate, and use baseline rating scales to understand patient concerns and goals. I collaborate with patients (and families if desired) to develop personalized treatment plans based on individual history, needs, and preferences, while tracking progress over time.

I am a board-certified Psychiatrist and Addiction Psychiatrist with extensive international training. I completed my medical education at the University of Pretoria in South Africa, followed by seven years of postgraduate residency across multiple specialties. After moving to the U.S. in 1994, I completed 27 months of fellowship training in forensic, addiction, and child & adolescent psychiatry. I have served as a visiting scientist and Research Assistant Professor and have broad experience treating adults, including uniformed personnel and those with co-occurring mental health and substance use conditions. I recently retired from a full-time Chief Medical Officer role.
