Brenda Camacho, MD

Dr. Taj Deen earned his medical degree from Dow Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan, and completed psychiatry residency training at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn. He has over 20 years of experience at Jacobi Medical Center’s acute inpatient psychiatric unit, led an acute psychiatric unit for 10 years at Montrose VA Hospital in New York, and served for 25 years in the psychiatric emergency room at Westchester Medical Center.  

Dr. Deen prioritizes building a genuine therapeutic alliance with all patients, fostering open communication and collaboration. He works closely with patients to set clear treatment goals and objectives while creating a warm, supportive environment in which patients feel heard, respected, and empowered.  

Dr. Deen begins with a comprehensive interview to understand each patient’s history, concerns, and goals. From there, he develops individualized treatment plans tailored to the patient’s objectives, combining compassionate guidance with evidence-based psychiatric care to support meaningful progress.

Lauren is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) who earned her Master of Science in Nursing from Kent State University in 2020. She has experience treating a wide range of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, psychotic disorders, bipolar disorder, ADHD, OCD, PTSD, and substance use disorders.

Lauren’s approach combines medication management with psychotherapy to create a well-rounded, individualized treatment plan. She takes time to listen to her patients’ concerns, fostering a safe and open environment for dialogue. Her therapeutic methods include supportive therapy, motivational interviewing, and cognitive behavioral therapy. Recognizing that medication alone may not fully address the root causes of distress, she incorporates talk therapy, lifestyle changes, stress management, self-care strategies, supplements, and social health into her care plans.

With a laid-back, non-judgmental, and empathetic style, Lauren collaborates closely with patients to ensure their treatment aligns with their unique needs and goals. Every decision is grounded in evidence-based practices and patient-centered care.

Lauren begins with a comprehensive initial assessment, gathering detailed information about each patient’s mental and physical health history, lifestyle, symptoms, concerns, and goals. This assessment informs a potential diagnosis and serves as the foundation for a personalized treatment plan. Regular follow-up appointments are scheduled to monitor progress, make adjustments as needed, and provide ongoing support.

Dr. Ariela Karasov completed her psychiatry residency at Stanford, serving as Chief Resident in her final year, and pursued a fellowship in Neuropsychiatry at Stanford Hospital. She is board certified in Behavioral Neurology and Neuropsychiatry and has worked as a National Expert in bipolar disorder at the VA. She has experience treating Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, PTSD, and Depression, as well as patients with comorbid neurologic and mental health conditions. Dr. Karasov has also taught residents as adjunct clinical faculty at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics.

Dr. Karasov takes a collaborative approach, actively engaging patients in treatment planning and decision-making. She incorporates therapy into her practice, emphasizing each individual’s values and what gives their life meaning and purpose. Patients can expect a thoughtful, empathetic, and patient-centered environment where their goals and experiences are prioritized.

She values a thorough evaluation to understand how medical, psychological, and social factors contribute to a patient’s presentation. When appropriate, she invites family members or friends to provide collateral information to ensure a complete understanding, guiding a tailored and effective treatment plan.

Dr. Sarah Benito Figueroa is a board-certified Adult Psychiatrist and a board-certified Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist. She earned her medical degree from the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus.  She completed her Adult Psychiatry residency at the University of Connecticut. Following this, she sub-specialized in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at New York University. Prior to joining Talkiatry, Dr. Benito Figueroa served as a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at a busy academic outpatient clinic and on an inpatient basis, providing care to children with complex medical needs.

Dr. Benito Figueroa strives to provide a patient-centered and collaborative approach when developing treatment plans. She specializes in medication management and supportive psychotherapy. When appropriate, she may make a referral for more specialized therapeutic interventions. For child and adolescent patients, Dr. Benito Figueroa encourages parental involvement at each visit to ensure a family centered approach is being followed to best support the child's needs.

During the first visit, Dr. Benito Figueroa will conduct a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation with a goal of understanding a patient's treatment history, current symptomatology and personal goals. She will work together with her patients to foster a collaborative environment, personalize treatment plans and support patients in achieving an improved quality of life.

Dr. Bailey is a board certified psychiatrist, specializing in medication management and psychotherapy. He enjoys the opportunity to help patients better understand their diagnosis and how biological, psychological and social interventions can be applied to live a more fulfilling life.  

As a recipient of the Army Health Professions Scholarship Program, Dr. Bailey earned his medical degree from the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg, Virginia followed by residency at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD.  

After completing residency, Dr. Bailey served at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX where he held several positions including Chief of Inpatient Behavioral Health Services. He also completed operational assignments, most notably a nine-month deployment to Iraq for which he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal. Dr. Bailey enjoys teaching and has held academic appointments at Long School of Medicine and Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.

Dr. Schaefer is a board-certified adult psychiatrist with over 16 years of experience. She earned her medical degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE, and completed her adult psychiatry residency at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, OR. She then specialized further by completing a forensic psychiatry fellowship at Yale University. She has worked as a staff psychiatrist at Atrium Health System for over 16 years.

Dr. Schaefer’s practice primarily focuses on medication management, which she offers in conjunction with supportive therapy and elements of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). She takes a patient-centered and collaborative approach, ensuring that treatment is tailored to each individual’s needs. If additional therapy is required, she may recommend working with a therapist as part of a comprehensive care plan. Her primary focus areas include depression, anxiety disorders, and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).
