Psychiatrists in New Mexico

DEBRA SOLOMON, MD

Dr. DEBRA SOLOMON, MD

Staff Psychiatrist

My presence at Talkiatry brings my career full circle and back to my greatest joy as a psychiatrist: working directly with patients one-on-one to help them integrate the complexity of their feelings, beliefs, and personal reality in the context of an increasingly complicated world around them. I take a compassionate, individualized, and pragmatic approach to treatment, beginning in the first visit with a full history and discussion with the patient of their symptoms, challenges, and goals. Follow-up visits are tailored to the patient's evolving needs and combine shared insights and tools such as medications and behavioral practices to support them as I guide them on their unique journey toward their best life, on their terms.

My qualifications include a B.A. in biology from Harvard University and an M.D. from Tufts School of Medicine. I completed psychiatry residencies at Mt. Sinai and Brown and am board certified in both Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine. My four decades of practice have exposed me to an eclectic range of cultures, ethnicities, and pathologies in a wide variety of settings, from solo practice to regional medical centers to academic institutions. This breadth and depth of clinical and life experience have helped me transcend cultural biases and institutional conventions and to more clearly see each patient as a uniquely complex and lovable individual.

Jency Sachidanandam, MD

Dr. Jency Sachidanandam, MD

Staff Psychiatrist

I emphasize the importance of addressing both physical and mental health to achieve a good quality of life. I believe that mental health is interconnected with physical well-being and that treating one aspect without the other leads to incomplete care. My holistic approach involves medication management, psychotherapy, and lifestyle modifications to promote overall health. I am skilled in providing supportive psychotherapy and using psychodynamic therapy techniques to help patients understand and address their current stressors and underlying issues.

I completed my Residency and Fellowship at Texas Tech University Health Science Center in El Paso, gaining extensive training in diagnosing and treating various psychiatric conditions. As a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at Texas Tech, I work with a diverse patient population, addressing psychiatric disorders like depression, anxiety, bipolar disorders, PTSD, and OCD.

I have shown a genuine commitment to my patients and a passion for helping them achieve their best possible outcomes. I am dedicated to staying current with the latest advancements in psychiatry and continuously improving my skills to provide the highest standard of care. My compassionate and patient-centered approach has earned me the respect and trust of my patients and colleagues alike.

Leslie Chavez, MD

Dr. Leslie Chavez, MD

Staff Psychiatrist

I am a board-certified adult psychiatrist known for making my patients feel seen and heard. I use both medication management and supportive psychotherapy, and as a seasoned psychopharmacologist, I emphasize the importance of nutrition, exercise, and community in mental health. I enjoy all aspects of medicine and combine my extensive knowledge with a patient-centered approach.

I completed my medical school and residency at the University of New Mexico, where I later served as a psychiatrist and assistant professor, treating high-need patients and teaching residents and medical students. During the pandemic, I transitioned to telehealth and have been dedicated to this field for the past four years. My academic journey began as a physics major at UNM; I then studied biophysics at the University of San Diego, California. During my postdoctoral fellowship at Los Alamos National Laboratories, I was inspired by presentations about professionals working with patients in African countries, which sparked my interest in medicine.

During that time, my father died of cancer, and I witnessed the impact of mental health therapy on his quality of life, further solidifying my motivation to attend medical school. Witnessing the profound impact of mental health on my patients and family, I specialized in psychiatry.

Find a psychiatrist in New Mexico

Across much of New Mexico, the nearest psychiatrist can be a long drive away, and the first openings can be months out. A psychiatrist in New Mexico through Talkiatry works differently: you meet a psychiatrist licensed in New Mexico by secure video, from home, so where you live in the state does not decide whether you can get care. Many people are seen in days, not months.

How online psychiatry in New Mexico works

You start by answering a few questions online, then get matched with a psychiatrist licensed in New Mexico based on your needs. Your first appointment lasts 60 minutes, giving you time to talk through your symptoms, ask questions, and build a treatment plan together. Follow-up visits are usually about 30 minutes.

Because your psychiatrist is licensed in New Mexico, you can be seen from anywhere in the state on secure video. There is no drive to an office and no local waiting list to join. You meet from home, on a schedule that fits your life.

What a psychiatrist in New Mexico can help with

A psychiatrist can help you understand what you are experiencing and what may help. Talkiatry psychiatrists work with people on conditions including anxiety, depression, and ADHD, along with bipolar disorder, OCD, PTSD, and postpartum depression.

Psychiatrists are medical doctors, so they can prescribe and manage medication when it fits your situation. Medication is one possible part of a plan, not the automatic result of a visit. Depending on your needs and availability, therapy may also be part of your care. Your psychiatrist listens first, evaluates, and then personalizes the plan with you.

Does insurance cover a psychiatrist in New Mexico?

For most people, online psychiatry in New Mexico is covered by insurance. Talkiatry is in-network with major insurers, and your coverage is verified during the free assessment before you schedule a visit. What you pay out of pocket depends on your plan, so it is a good idea to confirm the details with your insurer.

Getting mental health care in New Mexico

New Mexico has 96 designated mental health Health Professional Shortage Areas covering about 1.37 million people, and only about 30.4% of the area's psychiatric care need is currently met. Federal estimates suggest roughly 65 more practitioners would be needed to lift those shortage designations (according to KFF as of 12/31/25). For New Mexicans, that gap often means long drives and long waits.

Online psychiatry helps close that gap by connecting you with a licensed psychiatrist, rather than limiting your options to the providers in your immediate area. Whether you are in a city or a rural county, you can be matched with a psychiatrist licensed in New Mexico and seen by video.
