I uniquely combine my education, training, and practical experiences into specialized treatment plans. I typically offer this in conjunction with supportive or emotionally focused therapy in 30-minute follow-up visits. Occasionally, I may believe that additional therapy is also needed and ask that you bring a therapist into your care team to provide the best outcome. I specialize in the evaluation and management of major psychiatric disorders, including depression and anxiety.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist who completed my psychiatry residency training program at Nassau University Medical Center in Long Island, NY.

A story I came across years back still inspires me each day. A man was taking a morning walk at the beach. He saw that along with the morning tide came hundreds of starfish. When the tide receded, the starfish were left behind and would die in the morning sun. While the tide was fresh and the starfish were alive, the man took a few steps, picked one up, and threw it into the water, and continued throwing starfish back into the ocean. Behind him was a stranger who couldn't understand what this man was doing. He caught up with him and asked, "What are you doing? There are hundreds of starfish. How many can you help? What difference does it make?" The man did not reply; rather, he took two more steps, picked up another one, threw it into the water, and said, "It makes a difference to this one." With this story as my motivation and ultimate objective, it has always been my goal, with each patient, to provide superior services.

I focus on "wholeness" by understanding the whole person, not just their symptoms. My treatment approach includes a bio-psycho-sociocultural model and patient-centered care. I offer medication management and supportive therapy, and based on clinical need I also incorporate CBT, Mindfulness, and MI. I have special interest in women's mental health and cultural psychiatry. As an individual, I am intrigued by the human mind and behavior, which is why I chose to specialize in psychiatry.

I am double board certified in General Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine, and I am also certified in mindfulness therapy. I am an international medical graduate from India with post-graduate training in Psychiatry and Family Medicine. To better understand USA public health and preventive care, I pursued an advanced degree in Master of Public Health from Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia. Due to my interest in global health, I worked as a post-doctoral fellow in Global Health at Rutgers University. I completed my psychiatry residency at Cooper University Hospital, where I served as chief resident. Prior to joining Talkiatry, I was working as an attending psychiatrist and teaching faculty in an academic hospital.

I have experience managing diverse patients ranging from chronic severe mental illness and dual diagnosis patients to crisis management and high-functioning outpatient populations. I have years of experience treating patients from different cultural and religious backgrounds. Prior to moving to the USA, I worked as a medical officer in a government hospital system.

I am known for my compassionate, thoughtful approach to psychiatry and my commitment to helping patients feel genuinely seen and supported. I take pride in getting to know each person as a whole, beyond just symptoms or diagnoses, and work to build on that from the very first session. I treat a wide range of mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, ADHD, PTSD, OCD, bipolar and psychotic disorders. My approach is collaborative and patient-centered, with a strong focus on shared decision-making. Treatment often includes medication management and therapy techniques like cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing. Sessions are always a judgment-free space where patients feel safe, respected, and empowered.

Originally from New York, I completed my undergraduate studies at the University of Buffalo, earned my medical degree from St. George's University, and completed residency training at Northwell Health in New York and Connecticut.

During an initial visit, I conduct a thoughtful and collaborative assessment focused on understanding a patient's symptoms, experiences, and treatment goals. From there, I work closely with each person to develop a personalized plan, including medication options and other therapeutic strategies. My goal is to create a safe, respectful space where patients feel heard, empowered, and supported throughout their care.

I believe healing happens when mind, body, and spirit are aligned. I create a compassionate and collaborative environment where patients feel deeply heard and empowered in their own care. My approach blends conventional psychiatric treatment with nutrition, mindfulness, movement, and stress-reduction strategies to support long-term mental wellness. I value authenticity, open communication, and shared decision-making, empowering patients to build resilience and restore balance in their lives. I begin with a comprehensive assessment exploring medical, psychological, and lifestyle factors that influence mental health. Treatment plans are personalized and may include psychotherapy, targeted laboratory testing, lifestyle modifications, supplements, and medication when appropriate. I work closely with patients to restore balance, resilience, and overall well-being through a truly integrative approach, with regular collaboration and feedback helping patients heal, grow, and thrive.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist with more than 20 years of clinical and academic experience in emergency mental health, disaster response, and trauma-focused care. I earned my undergraduate degree at George Mason University and completed my medical degree at Eastern Virginia Medical School. After the September 11th attacks, I trained in psychiatry at New York Medical College's Saint Vincent's Hospital, specializing in emergency and trauma psychiatry. I previously served as Associate Director of Wellness & Emergency Response Services at New York University's Student Health Center, leading a team that cared for more than 50,000 global NYU students. Talkiatry connects you with a psychiatrist in Miami through video visits, so you can start care from anywhere in the Miami area. Our psychiatrists are licensed in Florida and see Florida residents online, with no commute and no local waitlist. Because care is virtual, you are not limited to the psychiatrists who happen to have an office nearby.

Online psychiatry for Miami residents

Here is how it works if you live in Miami. You answer a few questions online, then get matched with a psychiatrist licensed in Florida. Visits happen by video from home. Your first visit is 60 minutes, and follow-ups are usually around 30 minutes. There is no office to travel to, so "near me" really means "from anywhere in Miami."

A psychiatrist must be licensed in the state where you are located during the visit. That is why these pages are organized by state and city.

What a psychiatrist can help with

Talkiatry psychiatrists licensed in Florida treat a range of conditions by video, including:

Psychiatrists are medical doctors. They can diagnose, prescribe, and manage medication. Therapy is available too, and your psychiatrist can help you decide what fits your needs.

Does insurance cover a psychiatrist in Miami?

If you are looking for a psychiatrist in Miami that takes insurance, Talkiatry is in-network with major insurers. Your coverage is checked during the free assessment. Costs vary by plan, so contact your insurance company to confirm any co-pay or deductible.

Mental health care in Miami

Access to psychiatry is limited across Florida. The state has 239 federally designated mental health professional shortage areas. Only about 24.9% of the state's need for mental health practitioners is met, and an estimated 545 more psychiatrists would be needed to remove those shortage designations, according to KFF. Online care with a Florida-licensed psychiatrist helps close that gap.

Common questions about psychiatric care in Miami, FL

How much does a psychiatrist cost in Florida?

Costs depend on your insurance plan, so there is not one set price. Talkiatry is in-network with major insurers, and your coverage is checked during the free assessment. Contact your insurance company for a detailed estimate of any co-pay or deductible.

Can I just go straight to a psychiatrist?

In most cases, yes. You can start directly by taking the online assessment, with no referral needed to begin. Some insurance plans may still ask for a referral, so check with your insurer.

What is the three month rule in mental health?

There is no single official "three-month rule" in mental health care. People sometimes use the phrase for how long it can take to notice change or for a plan to review progress. Your psychiatrist sets a timeline based on your needs.

Do you need a referral to see a psychiatrist in Florida?

Usually not to begin. You can start the Talkiatry assessment on your own, without a referral. Some Florida insurance plans may still require one, so check with your insurer to be sure.

Can I get a prescription from an online psychiatrist in Miami?

If medication is part of your treatment plan, your Talkiatry psychiatrist can prescribe it. Medication is prescribed when clinically appropriate and legally permissible; a prescription is never guaranteed, and some medications may not be available for online prescribing. Your psychiatrist will discuss options.
