I completed my residency at Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii, followed by a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. My years of experience started as a medical officer for the Army, including a deployment to Iraq. My working experience after my military service includes working as a medical director of a community health center, a medical director of a community hospital, a medical director of an inpatient unit, and working for an Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACT) specializing in the Serious Mentally Ill population.

Dr. Brian Braumiller, DO, earned his degrees from Ohio University and Wright State University and served as chief resident in psychiatry from 1995 to 1996. During residency, he trained under renowned forensic psychiatrist Phillip J. Resnick, MD, gaining experience in inpatient and forensic psychiatry. Dr. Braumiller has also served as an assistant professor and medical director for multiple facilities and remains current on advances in psychiatric care through ongoing Maintenance of Certification activities. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with family, fishing, boating, and appreciating the restorative and grounding effects of time on the water.

I stayed upstate to complete my general psychiatry residency, where I was chief resident at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Following this, I completed my child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at Upstate due to the high quality of training. I have also completed 3 years of advanced training in Dynamic Deconstructive Psychotherapy as well as specialized training in DBT.

I am board-certified in adult psychiatry with experience in a wide variety of psychiatric disorders including depression, anxiety, women's mental health, and ADHD. Dr. Cherish Smith is an experienced psychiatrist who has practiced in outpatient and emergency department settings, with particular expertise in caring for adults and older adults diagnosed with psychiatric and cognitive disorders. She has also provided telepsychiatry services across multiple care settings. Dr. Smith has specialized experience treating Alzheimer’s disease, including the use of newer disease-modifying therapies, as well as managing behavioral and psychological symptoms related to Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.
