Biography

I take a multimodal approach to mental health care, integrating medication management, psychotherapy, lifestyle changes, and integrative methods. I value personal connection and believe that understanding each patient's story is central to effective treatment. My goal is to support patients in improving their quality of life in a collaborative and compassionate environment. I spend the first several visits listening closely to understand each patient's concerns, goals, and experiences, then partner with patients to develop a personalized treatment plan. Ongoing visits are tailored to each individual's needs and may evolve as treatment progresses.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist. I earned my medical degree and completed my general psychiatry residency at the University of Michigan, followed by a fellowship in psychodynamic psychotherapy through the Michigan Psychoanalytic Institute. Prior to psychiatry, I was a board-certified anesthesiologist and completed my anesthesia residency at UCLA and an obstetric anesthesia fellowship at Mass General Brigham.

I’m a board-certified adult psychiatrist dedicated to providing excellent mental health care. I trained at St. George’s University School of Medicine and completed my psychiatry residency at SUNY Downstate and Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn. I’ve worked in psychiatric emergency rooms, inpatient units, and outpatient clinics, caring for age ranges from young adults to geriatric patients. I also have a Perinatal Mental Health Certification (PMH-C) and specialized experience treating pregnant and postpartum patients.

My therapeutic style is compassionate, thoughtful, and meticulous. I strive to consider what is most important to you in order to alleviate suffering and support your wellbeing. I value shared decision making and creating a warm, mutually respectful telehealth environment. I also engage in continuous learning to provide high-quality psychiatric care.

I begin with a detailed history and careful exploration of symptoms to identify the most fitting diagnosis. I then develop an individualized, evidence-based treatment plan, including medication management, psychoeducation, lifestyle changes, and brief CBT as needed. Follow-ups focus on monitoring symptoms, adjusting medications, and providing tailored support.

I have practiced clinical Psychiatry, predominantly in the outpatient setting, with over a decade of post-graduate inpatient experience, since completing my psychiatric residency at the University of Connecticut Health Sciences Center in 2008. Prior, I received a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin in 1999, graduating with high honors, and a medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston in 2004. I have been certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology since 2009.

I am a collaborative physician, interested in the full picture of a patient’s life and inviting questions and discussion about what is and is not pathology, and which treatment plans fit an individual’s goals and lifestyle. I am often praised as “the only one who ever explains things,” and have won awards as the best mental health provider in my region twice in recent years.

With a substantial background in psychotherapeutic training, I work to minimize and justify the role of psychotropic medication in my patients’ lives, regularly reviewing propriety and necessity. Front and center is always quality of life, not impersonal diagnostic categories. I strive to help my patients “meet themselves where they are” as individuals, with an emphasis on resilience. My ultimate goal is to no longer be necessary.

I completed medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch and Psychiatry Residency Training at FAU Schmidt College of Medicine. I am psychodynamically trained and trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia. My experience spans inpatient, emergency, outpatient and Veterans Affairs psychiatry, including PTSD and substance abuse.

I offer supportive therapy, CBT-style approaches, and interpersonal communication skills development based on patient needs. I want patients to feel comfortable, safe, and able to speak freely.

I start with a self-introduction and spend a few minutes listening before discussing the chief complaint. I use open-ended questions to understand family, medical, social, and psychiatric history. I consider organic causes and request baseline labs. By the first or second session, I aim to have a big picture that we fill in over time. I am a double board-certified adult and child/adolescent psychiatrist who believes the person sitting in front of me is more than a diagnosis. I believe in individualized, patient-centered care and in meeting people where they are. My approach is collaborative, with trust, transparency, and truly getting to know each person at the center.

I believe patients should have autonomy in decisions about their health. My role is to listen, educate, provide support, and help patients make informed decisions consistent with their goals and values. I do not simply tell someone what medication to take; we develop the treatment plan together.

My first appointment is often less about checking boxes and more about, “Let me get to know you.” I listen to the patient’s story and strive to understand the whole person. My practice combines evidence-based medication management with supportive psychotherapy and, when appropriate, CBT, mindfulness, emotional regulation, behavioral activation, and other therapeutic tools. Medication may be important, but lifestyle changes and therapy are also part of the larger picture.
