I am a double board-certified psychiatrist specializing in the care of adults, with additional expertise in the care of older adults. My practice focuses on medication management for a wide range of psychiatric conditions and incorporates various therapeutic modalities in order to optimize symptomatic improvement and enhance quality of life. I received my medical degree from St. George's University School of Medicine. I completed my residency training in psychiatry at Maimonides Medical Center and my fellowship training in geriatric psychiatry at Columbia University Irving Medical Center.

As an adult psychiatrist, I have extensive theoretical knowledge of the nervous system and its disorders and more than 10 years of experience in treating various mental illnesses including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, autism-spectrum and neuropsychiatric disorders, psychiatric emergencies and crisis management, as well as cognitive behavioral and supportive psychotherapy.

I graduated cum laude from Istanbul University, Istanbul Medical School, completed my residency training in Neurology, and am Turkish board-certified in clinical Neurology. I then moved to the U.S. and finished my Ph.D. in cellular Neuroscience at Cornell University Graduate School of Medical Sciences. I completed my psychiatry residency training at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry, and subsequently my clinical fellowship in Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program at Columbia University Medical College, New York Presbyterian Hospital.

I have practiced in various settings including Bellevue Hospital, New York Presbyterian Hospital, Columbia Doctors Faculty Practice Office, and Mount Sinai West and Mount Sinai Morningside Hospitals. I have held academic appointments at New York University School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry; New York Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia University Medical College Department of Psychiatry; New York State Psychiatric Institute; and Mount Sinai School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry. I have spent most of my professional career supervising and teaching medical students, psychiatry residents, and nurse practitioners. At Columbia Doctors, I collaborated closely with the Lieber Recovery Clinic, treating young adults with various mental illnesses.

Dr. Daniel Weiss is a double board-certified psychiatrist in adult and forensic psychiatry. His expertise is in diagnosing and treating psychiatric conditions, including depression and bipolar spectrum disorders, anxiety, stress and adjustment problems, maternal mental health, OCD, and other disorders. In addition, he has extensive experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds, college and graduate students, creative professionals, and a range of working adults. Through a supportive psychopharmacologic approach, Dr. Weiss strives to provide a comfortable experience in which doctor and patient work to understand the presenting problems, reduce symptoms, and optimize functioning. In addition, Dr. Weiss encourages concurrent therapy and will communicate with that provider in a collaborative care arrangement. Dr. Weiss previously served as an attending psychiatrist on the staff of Montefiore Medical Center and was formerly a faculty member at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Before joining Talkiatry, Dr. Weiss spent a decade working at The New School as the university's staff psychiatrist.

I use a compassionate and thoughtful approach in order to form a collaborative partnership with my patients. Upon completion of my third year, I went on to become Chief Academic Resident of my program, which allowed me to impart my knowledge of psychiatry to younger psychiatrists in training. After completing my residency in General Psychiatry, I completed a fellowship in the prestigious Mount Sinai Health System in New York City, based primarily out of the Beth Israel location. During this fellowship I studied Consultation-liaison psychiatry, also known as psychosomatic medicine, an exciting subspecialty of psychiatry that focuses on the care of patients with comorbid psychiatric and general medical conditions. Consultation-liaison psychiatry deals with the understanding and advancement of medical science, education, and the provision of healthcare for medically ill and complex patients.

I prefer a holistic approach that takes the time to know the whole patient, incorporating biological, psychological, social, and cultural perspectives in crafting a comprehensive, individualized treatment plan. I practice medication management combined with supportive therapy, typically delivered within 30-minute sessions. Elements of psychodynamic, dialectical behavior, and cognitive-behavioral therapy are also incorporated into sessions based on a patient's individual needs. If additional therapy is needed, I will recommend the addition of an individual therapist to the patient's treatment team.
