I received my medical degree from one of the largest publicly funded medical schools in India, L.L.R.M. Medical College, Meerut, India, before moving to the US. I gained experience in mental and behavioral health in various roles at some of the most prestigious institutions in the US, namely Northwestern University, Emory University, and North Shore-LIJ. I completed my residency at Nassau University Medical Center, East Meadow, NY. I have been a co-author of several research papers, and my team's research work has also been presented at national and international meetings.

I am a board certified psychiatrist skilled in prescribing medications and working in psychotherapy. I combine a warm demeanor with excellent clinical skills, and have over 15 years' experience working with adult patients of all ages and many walks of life. I have special expertise combining medication and psychotherapy to help patients reduce symptoms and grow as individuals. My additional training and experience in psychological modes of treatment enhance the quality of care I provide to all my patients, to meet them where they are and prioritize their individual needs and goals. I also provide medication management-only treatments for people who aren't looking for psychotherapy or who already have therapists.

I completed my psychiatric residency at Columbia University Medical Center in New York. I also completed psychoanalytic training at the Columbia Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research, and went on to teach classes at the Center, educating candidates about the nuances of combining psychotherapy with other treatment modalities. Prior to medical school, I obtained my undergraduate degree in economics with honors from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. My background includes research at the Heinz C. Prechter Bipolar Research Center and the Benson-Henry Institute for Mind-Body Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital. I also worked as a Mental Health Specialist at McLean Psychiatric Hospital.

He is board-eligible in psychiatry through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the American Osteopathic Board of Neurology and Psychiatry. Dr. Barnes serves on the American Psychiatric Association's Committee on Innovation as liaison to the Council on Digital Health, AI, and Technology and has presented nationally on the role of AI in psychiatry.

Dr. Shivani Sharma Theivakumar completed her psychiatry internship at UCLA-Kern Medical Center, her psychiatry residency at Mount Sinai St. Luke's and Mount Sinai West in Manhattan, and a child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at New York Medical College, where she served as Chief Fellow. She has experience caring for patients in outpatient, inpatient, and emergency settings.
