I take a patient-centered approach and emphasize that I, too, am human. Everyone faces challenges at different times and in different ways. I adopt a holistic perspective, recognizing that effective treatment involves understanding how life challenges impact a person as a whole. I am dedicated to providing compassionate, empathetic, and practical care to all my patients. I engage with patients in a way that makes it easy and natural for them to share their stories, and from there I promote a shared decision-making approach to develop the most effective treatment plan. My areas of expertise include psychopharmacology, as well as Cognitive Behavioral, Supportive, and Psychodynamic therapies.

I am a Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with nearly 30 years of experience in health care, dedicated to addressing the mental health needs of my community. With a background in both inpatient and outpatient settings, I am committed to helping individuals become the best versions of themselves, no matter where they are in their journey at the time of their first appointment.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, biking, and being outdoors.

I focus on meeting patients where they are and creating customized treatment plans that align with their goals. My care is rooted in a patient-centered approach, ensuring collaboration and respect throughout the treatment process. My process blends structure with flexibility, tailoring care to each patient's needs. I begin by establishing a diagnosis and treatment plan, integrating medication management, therapy, collaborative goal-setting, and ongoing progress monitoring. This holistic approach supports both mental health and overall well-being.

I hold three Bachelor's degrees in Biology, Medical Technology, and Nursing, as well as a Master of Science in Nursing. I began my nursing career in 2011, working in inpatient psychiatry, and later expanded my experience to community mental health and home health for patients with behavioral health needs. In 2018, I earned my PMHNP certification from the University of Missouri–Kansas City and have since spent six years providing behavioral health medication management at an FQHC, treating patients across the lifespan.

I offer a warm, patient-centered approach to psychiatry. I am well known for being easy to talk to and down to earth. I believe the patient is the most important part of the treatment team and actively engage patients in the decision-making process regarding their care. Patients say I listen, make them feel heard, and tailor care to best fit their needs. I enjoy collaborating with therapists whenever possible to ensure the best outcomes. While I specialize in the treatment of ADHD, I also treat Depression, PTSD, Anxiety, Panic, Agoraphobia, OCD, and Bipolar Disorder.

I have worked almost exclusively in community mental health centers in Iowa and Arizona for the last 15 years. I have been providing telepsychiatry services since 2013 across several states, serving hospitals, community mental health centers, local jails, and residential treatment facilities. I was the lead prescriber for Living Out Loud, a mental health program exclusively for LGBTQ+ persons. I have experience working with patients with comorbid mental health and HIV+ status, as well as a long history of supporting individuals with severe mental illness. I was also part of the pilot program for Integrated Behavioral Health Home, integrating primary care into treatment for patients with severe mental illness.

I earned my Master's in Nursing from Allen College and have mentored countless new Psychiatric Nurse Graduates in their first year of outpatient practice. I also precept students working to achieve their Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Certification.

I view medication as a tool rather than a cure. My guiding principle is the integration of therapy and medication management to support healing and growth. I incorporate alternative treatments by assessing physical health, exploring natural alternatives to medication, focusing on nutrition, and helping clients develop coping skills to manage daily stressors. I also consider the social dimensions of mental health, addressing relationships, self-esteem, and internal healing. I encourage clients to be active participants in their treatment, fostering a collaborative, respectful, and open therapeutic relationship. I tailor my collaborative approach to each individual's needs, drawing from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and other treatment modalities, combining them with evidence-based prescribing to create personalized care plans.

I provide medication management and supportive psychotherapy services. A graduate of the University of North Dakota, I began my career in an outpatient setting, later transitioning into a lead nurse practitioner role before moving into telehealth services. My goal is to reach individuals in need when in-person care is not feasible. I have worked in mental health for over 12 years.

I live in North Dakota with my family and enjoy traveling, reading, and spending quality time with them.

FAQs

How does Talkiatry work?

Talkiatry is an online psychiatry practice designed to make high-quality mental health care more accessible. We’re 100% virtual, in-network with major insurance plans, and first appointments are typically available in days.

To get started, you’ll complete a quick online assessment to tell us what you’re looking for. We’ll match you with psychiatrists who are licensed in your state, in-network with your insurance, and experienced in treating your concerns. You’ll choose the clinician you’d like to work with.

Your first visit is an in-depth evaluation where your psychiatrist will listen, provide a diagnosis, and work with you to create a treatment plan tailored to your goals and preferences. You’ll continue seeing the same clinician over time, adjusting your plan as your needs evolve. Our team is always here to help with scheduling, insurance, and questions about your care.

Do you provide therapy?

Care at Talkiatry starts with psychiatry. If you already have a Talkiatry psychiatrist, they can refer you to one of our therapists if you’ve decided together that therapy is the right next step. However, you can’t see a Talkiatry therapist if you aren’t already seeing one of our psychiatrists.

What should I do if I’m having an emergency?

Talkiatry does not provide emergency care. If you or someone you know is in crisis, please visit your nearest emergency room, call 911, or call or text the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988.

How much will my visit cost?

The majority of our visits cost patients $25 or less after insurance*, but your exact out-of-pocket cost depends on your plan. The best way to get a clear estimate is to contact your insurance provider directly. Here’s what to ask them:

  • Do I have mental health benefits that include outpatient psychiatry?
  • Is Talkiatry in-network for my plan?
  • What’s my copay or coinsurance for outpatient psychiatry visits?
  • Do I have a deductible? If so, how close am I to meeting it?
  • Do I have an out-of-pocket maximum? If so, how close am I to reaching it?
  • Are virtual or telehealth psychiatry visits covered the same as in-person care?
  • Is prior authorization required for outpatient psychiatry?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychiatry visit using CPT code 99204?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychotherapy visit using CPT code 90833?

*Includes all patient costs from 9/24-9/25: copayment, deductible, coinsurance, and $0 payments. Excludes missed appt. fees.  Your medical visit costs can vary depending on insurance coverage.

What if I don’t want to take medication?

Psychiatrists are medical doctors, and medication is often part of how they treat mental health conditions. At Talkiatry, your psychiatrist will start by listening and discussing your options with you. Medication is always your choice, but if it’s not something you’re open to considering, we may not be the best fit for ongoing care at this time.

How do I know if Talkiatry can help me?

Talkiatry provides virtual, in-network psychiatric care for people struggling with mild to moderate mental health issues. Here’s what we can help with:

  • Anxiety
  • ADHD (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder)
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Child & adolescent care
  • Depression
  • OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder)
  • Pregnancy & postpartum care
  • PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder)
  • Substance use disorder

Our goal is to connect you with the best possible care for you. At your first visit, your doctor will confirm whether Talkiatry is the right fit. If they recommend in-person or higher-level care, they’ll guide you to the appropriate resources.

Do I still take the assessment if I’m already diagnosed with PTSD?

Yes. Our online assessment is an important part of how we match you with the right psychiatrist. Your first visit will include a thorough evaluation so your psychiatrist can confirm your diagnosis and tailor your treatment plan to your current needs.
