Isaac Benmaman Santiago, MD, is a physician specializing in the evaluation and treatment of adults with a wide range of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety disorders, ADHD, bipolar disorder, PTSD, and psychotic disorders. My practice focuses on using an integrated approach to the understanding and treatment of individuals' psychosocial stresses and psychiatric symptoms. I am a general psychiatrist with a focus on anxiety disorders, OCD, and mood disorders, and I am interested in the impact of trauma and personality. I have extensive experience working with young adults, and clinically I have experience working with people with significant mood and anxiety difficulties. My sessions are usually 30 minutes. I frequently suggest including a family member or friend in at least one session to get a comprehensive sense of each person's strengths and challenges.

I received my medical degree from NYU and completed my psychiatric residency at Mt. Sinai Hospital. I spent a number of years in the Brown system, as Training Director for the Brown Psychiatry Residency and as Vice-Chair of the Brown Department of Psychiatry. For several years, I served as Chair of the Department of Psychiatry at Mt. Sinai West/St. Lukes', prior to my position at McLean Hospital, where I was Clinical Director of the Depression and Anxiety Division, overseeing the integration of clinical work, faculty development, and research in the division. I have worked primarily with outpatients, with the exception of a recent period of residential work at the Pavilion at McLean Hospital.

My practice focuses on medication management in conjunction with supportive therapy and psychoeducation in 20-30 minute follow-up visits. At times, I may recommend additional therapy and ask that you bring another therapist into your care team to provide the best outcome. I graduated from Cornell University with a B.A. degree in psychology, received my medical degree from the University of South Florida, and completed my residency at New York University and its affiliated hospitals, including Tisch and Lenox Hill, where I served as chief resident. I have worked for over twenty years in private practice and at a large community hospital in Pennsylvania. My extensive hospital experience kept me sharply focused on the connection between medical issues and mental health presentations.

I earned my undergraduate degree in molecular genetics from the University of Vermont and conducted neuroscience research in both academic and industry settings. I am a graduate of St. George's University School of Medicine and completed my psychiatry residency at Mather Hospital, Northwell Health, where I was honored as Resident of the Year in 2025 and inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.

I graduated from Boston Medical Center Brighton, Massachusetts, from the Department of Psychiatry. I received my training in Interventional Psychiatry including ECT and TMS at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, a Harvard University Teaching Hospital. I have multiple publications in research. In my free time, I enjoy playing sports with my family, including soccer and cricket.

I received my undergraduate degree at Harvard University, my medical degree at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, and then went on to train at Maine Medical Center for my psychiatric residency. I have worked in various settings, including community mental health centers and large hospital systems, with experience in inpatient, outpatient, and consultative roles. Prior to joining Talkiatry, I most recently served as an attending psychiatrist on the staff of Southern New Hampshire Health System, where I provided consultative care to referrals made from primary care providers and various specialists.

I have expertise in treating patients with mood disorders, anxiety, and PTSD, and I incorporate psychopharmacology when needed, as well as psychodynamic and supportive psychotherapy.

I completed my psychiatry residency training at Harvard University in Boston, Massachusetts. I have enjoyed treating patients for over 25 years in a variety of settings such as inpatient, outpatient mental health clinics, emergency room, and multidisciplinary clinics.

In addition to my medical training, I hold a Master of Public Health (MPH) from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. I have over three years of experience practicing psychiatry across inpatient, emergency, and outpatient settings.

I completed my bachelor's degree in Cellular Molecular Biology from Metropolitan University, San Juan, Puerto Rico, and my postgraduate work at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland. After completing my training, I began working for Lifespan Physician Group, where I became program director for Lifespan Latinx Mental Health Services and served as Staff Psychiatrist at Rhode Island Hospital and The Miriam Hospital. I hold a faculty position in The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior, as a Clinical Instructor.

I view each patient and their caregiver's circumstance as unique. I take a holistic and collaborative approach to help patients understand their options. While the focus may be on psychoeducation and medication management with supportive and psychodynamic therapeutic interventions, there may be a need for additional therapy, and I may ask that a therapist be added to the treatment team. I have worked in various settings with culturally diverse populations, with a primary focus on caring for children in outpatient programs. I have spent over ten years as an administrative leader, having chaired and co-chaired committees overseeing the practice of fellow psychiatrists and served as Discipline Chief. I have also been teaching and supervising Nurse Practitioner students and Physician Assistant students. I am experienced with a wide variety of psychiatric diagnoses and therapeutic modalities.

I focus on providing a comprehensive medical assessment, medication management, psychoeducation, wellness, and alternative therapies. My approach is collaborative, and I have a strong interest in functional medicine and alternative therapies. Prior to joining Talkiatry, I practiced at the University of Denver Health and Counseling Center for 20 years, where I treated undergraduate and graduate students. I also worked at a clinic providing care to indigent patients, which was also a training site for graduate psychology students.
