My practice focuses on medication management and supportive psychotherapy in typically 30-minute follow-up visits. At times, additional psychotherapy is needed, and a therapist may be added to provide the best outcome. I have developed expertise in quickly building rapport with patients, conducting medication management assessments, and implementing effective interventions. I understand the delicate balance of providing thorough care within the constraints of virtual sessions, and I have developed strategies to ensure patients feel supported and understood, even through a screen. By combining clinical expertise with genuine empathy and persistence, I help my patients navigate their treatment journey with confidence and hope.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist who treats adults. I graduated Magna Cum Laude and with General Honors from the University of Miami, and I completed medical school at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in the prestigious Honors Program in Medicine. I continued my medical education at Jackson Memorial Hospital and University of Miami Hospital for my 4-year psychiatry residency training program. After completing my training, I held an academic appointment at the University of Miami while working at the Miami Veterans Affairs Hospital, initially as a behavioral health consultant in the Primary Care Mental Health Integration (PCMHI) model and later as a Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP) psychiatrist in the Mental Health Treatment Coordinator (MHTC) role. My background spans clinical care, academic research, and community service, giving me a comprehensive understanding of mental healthcare delivery across different settings. These experiences taught me how to maintain clinical excellence while showing patience and respect for each patient's unique circumstances.

Given my broad and diverse training experiences, I enjoy problem solving and working collaboratively with patients to navigate their complex issues and jointly focusing on simple solutions to work towards improving their mental health. I have experience working with adults of all ages, particularly those with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, substance use disorders, PTSD, and more.

I am a board certified adult psychiatrist and burgeoning Geriatric Psychiatrist. After completing my undergraduate education at Florida State University, I attended medical school at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, where I graduated with a combined M.D./M.S. in Genomic Medicine. I have had the opportunity of working with a diverse array of patients including veterans, inmates, the severely mentally ill, geriatric, and cancer patients across three distinct hospital systems. I strive to create a safe, judgment-free space where patients can share their experiences openly. I encourage honest dialogue so patients feel supported, understood, and fully involved in every decision. My approach emphasizes evidence-based medication management to reduce symptoms and improve functioning, while maintaining flexibility to adapt strategies as needs and goals evolve.

I begin with a collaborative exploration of symptoms, personal history, and goals to establish a clear treatment direction. I tailor care to each individual, balancing medication management with supportive therapy when appropriate. Through shared decision-making, I ensure patients remain active participants in their treatment. By closely monitoring progress and adjusting as needed, I provide care that is both responsive and effective.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist with experience in both outpatient and inpatient settings. I earned my medical degree from Meharry Medical College and completed my psychiatry residency and child & adolescent psychiatry fellowship at the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville. My training and practice reflect a commitment to supporting patients across the lifespan with individualized, evidence-based care.

I believe psychiatry combines science and the art of medicine. I treat both adults and children/adolescents, with expertise in psychopharmacology, psychotherapy, addiction, geriatrics, and dual-diagnosis care. I am trained in TMS and ECT, am a Certified Suboxone Prescriber, and offer consultations and treatment through office-based or telemedicine visits. My approach is tailored to each patient's needs, integrating compassionate care with evidence-based treatment.

I acknowledge the many choices patients have in providers and strive to create a welcoming, collaborative, and supportive environment for everyone seeking care. Patients value my professionalism, patience, empathy, and attentive listening.

Before pursuing medicine, I explored a range of passions. After earning dual degrees in Biology and Biochemistry from the University of California, Riverside, I opened a popular Riverside eatery featured on The Food Channel. I later transitioned to the IT industry, earning a master's degree and certifications, before answering my true calling in medicine, graduating from Saint Matthews University School of Medicine.

I specialize in medication management but take a holistic, patient-centered approach that integrates supportive therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and motivational interviewing (MI). I have extensive experience treating depression, bipolar disorder, generalized anxiety, panic disorder, social anxiety, OCD, insomnia, and substance use disorders. I am particularly skilled in treating college students and individuals navigating difficult life transitions. If more in-depth therapy is needed, I may refer patients to a therapist as part of a comprehensive care plan.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist licensed in Adult Psychiatry. I earned my bachelor's degree from Ohio State University and my medical degree from Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine. I completed my psychiatry training at Stony Brook University Hospital, where I served as chief resident and was awarded the William Turner Award for outstanding performance in psychiatry residency. I have extensive experience treating diverse populations, including vulnerable and underserved communities, having worked as an outpatient psychiatrist at Bellevue Hospital for two years.

During the first visit, patients can expect a thorough and compassionate evaluation, where I carefully assess symptoms, history, and treatment goals. I prioritize collaboration and individualized treatment planning, ensuring that patients feel comfortable and supported in their mental health care. Follow-up visits are typically 30 minutes and focus on medication management and therapy integration, with referrals to additional therapy when needed for the best possible outcome.

I am a board-certified adult psychiatrist who takes a genuine interest in my patients and values collaborative decision-making. Over the past 4 years of practicing, I have followed a holistic model of care that accounts for the physical, mental, social, and spiritual needs of the individual. I have a down-to-earth, patient, and warm personality, and pride myself on timeliness and professionalism. Though I focus on medication management, I have a passion for supportive therapy with elements of CBT, psychodynamic therapy, and mindfulness. I may also recommend that a therapist be included in your care team if more specialized therapy is required.

I graduated summa cum laude from Grove City College and completed medical school at UTMB at Galveston. I finished my residency at Memorial Healthcare System in FL, where I held a leadership position in Graduate Medical Education. I have experience treating a wide range of disorders, including depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, ADHD, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and addiction, and have worked with adolescent, geriatric, pregnant, and medically complex patients. Growing up in a Korean immigrant household and training in the ethnically diverse South Florida region has informed me of the unique struggles that immigrant populations face. I have a special interest in treating mood and anxiety disorders.

Outside of the office, I enjoy art, cinema, and powerlifting.

My approach is to get to know my patients well in order to provide more comprehensive care. I prefer Cognitive Behavioral therapy or Rational Emotive therapy, which I feel is the most time effective and enduring therapy to help patients' needs. I enjoy working with patients who have anxiety, mood disorders, and ADHD, and I am particularly interested in treatment-resistant Depression and Anxiety Disorders. Patients working with me know that I realize they have been suffering with their symptoms for some time, or they would not be seeking help, and I will work with each patient in collaboration to help receive the proper care. The typical process is to first spend time gathering a history of the symptoms, then include significant medical history which may be primary or secondary contributing factors, and also examine the psychosocial profile and how that may contribute to the initiation of symptoms and prevention of improvement. It is essential to form a differential diagnosis and continue to look at any ongoing issues as well as co-morbidities. I believe it is most important to discuss possible treatment modalities and take into consideration the patient's participation in ongoing care, staying up to date on the latest modalities and using a combination of medication, nutritional supplements, and behavioral therapies that can foster lasting improvement. It is very gratifying watching patients blossom and overcome their psychiatric disorder and then function at their best in work, leisure pursuits, and relationships.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist and a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, the National Board of Physicians and Surgeons, and the American Association of Psychiatric Medicine. Originally from Brooklyn, New York, I received my MD from New York University after completing a 5th pathway at Booth Memorial Hospital in Queens, New York. I began my experience seeing patients with treatment refractory major psychiatric illnesses at Rockland Psychiatric Center in Rockland County, New York, where I also served on the psychopharmacology committee. I then practiced outpatient psychiatry at Rockland County Community Mental Health and Westchester County Mental Health for over 20 years, in addition to maintaining a private practice, and held the position of Associate Director of the division in Westchester County for over 18 years. That work exposed me to all levels of psychiatric care, including patients in the community, patients with limited income, and dual diagnoses including substance abuse. I also have extensive experience working with patients with developmental disabilities, as this is an underserved need.

I then went on to work in Florida for Florida Health Care Plans, an HMO, and in private practice for the past 13 years. I worked at the Counseling Center of New Smyrna Beach, helped establish the Center for Behavioral Medicine in Port Orange, Florida as part of a multidisciplinary practice, and established Advanced TMS in Port Orange, Florida. I subsequently practiced Interventional Psychiatry with Greenbrook TMS in the greater Orlando area. I am certified in TMS for brain mapping with Neurostar and Cloud TMS and have experience in the use of intranasal ketamine for treatment-resistant depression. I have been a member of the Neuroscience Education Institute since 2012, where I hold a certificate as a Master Psychopharmacologist, and I am a member of the Clinical TMS Society. I am also certified in Medical Marijuana and have completed the IV Ketamine Infusion therapy course as well as Botox training certification. I hold active medical licenses in Florida, Arizona, and New York.

FAQs

How does Talkiatry work?

Talkiatry is an online psychiatry practice designed to make high-quality mental health care more accessible. We’re 100% virtual, in-network with major insurance plans, and first appointments are typically available in days.

To get started, you’ll complete a quick online assessment to tell us what you’re looking for. We’ll match you with psychiatrists who are licensed in your state, in-network with your insurance, and experienced in treating your concerns. You’ll choose the clinician you’d like to work with.

Your first visit is an in-depth evaluation where your psychiatrist will listen, provide a diagnosis, and work with you to create a treatment plan tailored to your goals and preferences. You’ll continue seeing the same clinician over time, adjusting your plan as your needs evolve. Our team is always here to help with scheduling, insurance, and questions about your care.

Do you provide therapy?

Care at Talkiatry starts with psychiatry. If you already have a Talkiatry psychiatrist, they can refer you to one of our therapists if you’ve decided together that therapy is the right next step. However, you can’t see a Talkiatry therapist if you aren’t already seeing one of our psychiatrists.

What should I do if I’m having an emergency?

Talkiatry does not provide emergency care. If you or someone you know is in crisis, please visit your nearest emergency room, call 911, or call or text the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988.

How much will my visit cost?

The majority of our visits cost patients $25 or less after insurance*, but your exact out-of-pocket cost depends on your plan. The best way to get a clear estimate is to contact your insurance provider directly. Here’s what to ask them:

  • Do I have mental health benefits that include outpatient psychiatry?
  • Is Talkiatry in-network for my plan?
  • What’s my copay or coinsurance for outpatient psychiatry visits?
  • Do I have a deductible? If so, how close am I to meeting it?
  • Do I have an out-of-pocket maximum? If so, how close am I to reaching it?
  • Are virtual or telehealth psychiatry visits covered the same as in-person care?
  • Is prior authorization required for outpatient psychiatry?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychiatry visit using CPT code 99204?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychotherapy visit using CPT code 90833?

*Includes all patient costs from 9/24-9/25: copayment, deductible, coinsurance, and $0 payments. Excludes missed appt. fees.  Your medical visit costs can vary depending on insurance coverage.

What if I don’t want to take medication?

Psychiatrists are medical doctors, and medication is often part of how they treat mental health conditions. At Talkiatry, your psychiatrist will start by listening and discussing your options with you. Medication is always your choice, but if it’s not something you’re open to considering, we may not be the best fit for ongoing care at this time.

What if my insurance changes from Blue Cross Blue Shield?

Insurance changes are common, and we’re here to help. Talkiatry is in-network with thousands of plans. If your insurance changes, reach out to a Care Coordinator to update your information and confirm your coverage by calling 833-351-TALK (8255).

Do I still take the assessment if I’m already diagnosed with bipolar disorder?

Yes. Our online assessment is an important part of how we match you with the right psychiatrist. Your first visit will include a thorough evaluation so your psychiatrist can confirm your diagnosis and tailor your treatment plan to your current needs.
