I take a person-centered approach, prioritizing a safe, welcoming environment where patients feel heard and understood. Through empathy and active listening, I ensure all patients feel respected throughout their therapeutic journey. I emphasize collaborative goal-setting to identify and achieve tangible, meaningful outcomes that align with each individual's needs.

In the initial session, I focus on building rapport and establishing open communication. I gain insight into a patient's background, history, and current concerns, then collaborate with them to set realistic goals. Treatment plans are tailored and flexible, evolving to meet each patient's unique needs while supporting long-term growth and well-being.

I have extensive experience in intensive outpatient, residential, and inpatient settings, and have worked with individuals facing diverse therapeutic needs, including anxiety, depression, borderline personality disorder, and PTSD. I earned my master's degree from Thomas Jefferson University, which provides a strong foundation in trauma-focused counseling.

I specialize in treating a broad range of psychiatric conditions, notably mood and anxiety disorders. I integrate medication management with a holistic, personalized approach to treatment, emphasizing the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit. I believe in tailoring treatment plans individually, combining therapy and medications to suit each patient's unique needs, and I highlight the importance of healthy relationships in achieving overall mental health.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist. I earned my medical degree from Touro University Nevada and completed my residency at Unity Health White County Medical Center. I further specialized by completing a fellowship in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry at the Cleveland Clinic, where I gained extensive experience working within multidisciplinary healthcare teams, particularly focused on psychiatric care for patients with complex medical conditions.

Patients visiting me for the first time can expect a comprehensive and personalized assessment that explores not just their psychiatric symptoms but their overall well-being and personal relationships. I prioritize a holistic evaluation, carefully balancing medication considerations and therapeutic interventions tailored specifically to each patient's situation and goals. I create an empathetic, collaborative atmosphere to discuss and develop personalized plans for mental and emotional wellness.

My practice focuses on medication management as well as supportive and insight-oriented psychotherapy. I believe that a combination of therapy and medications helps provide a patient with the best outcome. My goal is to help patients live their best and most fulfilling lives. In addition to general psychiatry, I have a keen interest in mood disorders, helping creatives achieve their goals, and the LGBTQ community.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist who has been in practice for 25 years. My career has been devoted to serving both my local community as well as high-risk and underserved patients. I am board certified in Adult psychiatry. My approach to mental health is integrative, with the utilization of complementary and alternative treatments such as yoga, lifestyle changes, and nutritional interventions in addition to traditional medication management and therapy. I prefer to focus on the overall health and well-being of an individual, rather than just treating symptoms. My practice focuses on medication management along with elements of therapy from different modalities, such as supportive and cognitive behavioral therapy, that are patient-tailored. I understand the importance of psychotherapy and may ask to bring in a therapist into your treatment team to provide the best care and outcome. My clinical interests include depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, panic disorder, OCD, and ADHD.

After completing my undergraduate degree in Biology at Ohio Northern University, I received my medical degree from Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. I went on to complete my residency in psychiatry at The Ohio State University Medical Center. I also completed yoga teacher training and presented nationally at the APA in 2019 regarding the benefits of yoga for depression. I am a member of the American Psychiatric Association, Ohio Psychiatric Physician's Association, and Psychiatry Society of Central Ohio.

Although my practice focuses on medication management, I also implement supportive therapy and motivational interviewing in sessions to allow for a more comprehensive approach to treatment. My clinical interests include depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, panic disorder, and ADHD.

I am a double board-certified Child, Adolescent, and Adult Psychiatrist. I received my undergraduate degree from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, and my medical degree from Ross University, completing all of my clinicals in Maryland, D.C., and NYC. I have participated in a variety of innovative academic clinical research and have presented research at annual national meetings of the American Psychiatric Association. My robust clinical experience with varying demographics at different clinical sites around the country has allowed me to treat patients in an evidence-based way, tailoring treatment to an individual's specific needs.

My practice focuses on child and adolescent medication management. I typically offer this in conjunction with supportive or emotionally focused therapy in 30-minute follow-up visits. Occasionally, however, I may believe that additional therapy is needed and will ask that you bring a therapist into your care team to provide the best outcome. I provide treatment plans that include holistic recommendations for diet, exercise, and educational and psychosocial/spiritual aspects of care. I am known for listening to and respecting patients' stories and walking them on a path of recovery and growth.

I am a staff psychiatrist at Talkiatry and am double board certified in child and adolescent psychiatry and adult psychiatry. I received my medical degree from the Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, and my Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy from The Ohio State University. Prior to attending medical school, I practiced for 14 years in physical therapy with a specialization in children with developmental and neurological disabilities. I have held multiple positions in hospital and outpatient psychiatry, including community mental health, developmental and foster care settings, and medical director positions. I have also served as clinical faculty for both the Wright State Department of Psychiatry and the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine. I have a passion for the education of medical students, residents, and patients.

I provide evidence-based medication management for a variety of psychiatric conditions, including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, ADHD, PTSD, and OCD, while incorporating therapeutic techniques that are tailored to the individual and their goals. Although I have had experience working in a variety of settings, I have maintained a passion for outpatient psychiatry and building a strong, therapeutic relationship with my patients.

I am a board-certified Adult and Forensic Psychiatrist. I obtained my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology at Kent State University and my medical degree from Ohio Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. I then completed my Psychiatry Residency training at The Ohio State University, where I served as a Chief Resident for two years. Following residency, I pursued an additional year of training through Ohio State, completing a Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship. A large portion of that time was spent in the state hospital system, where I learned more about the interplay between psychiatry and the law, provided high-quality psychiatric services to an inpatient forensic population, conducted forensic evaluations, and educated the Court on psychiatric topics through expert testimony.

I took an adventurous path to Talkiatry. After perhaps thinking a little too hard about Intro to Philosophy in college — "the unexamined life is not worth living" — I first used my chemistry degree to work in pharmaceutical research. I changed course, working in computer network engineering, before deciding to find a more meaningful path. I worked as an EMT, then earned a Master's in Physiology before finally landing in medical school at Ohio State.

Finding a surprising interest in psychiatry, I stayed at Ohio State for residency, and then a fellowship in forensic psychiatry. I am board-certified in both Psychiatry and Forensic Psychiatry. I previously worked as a forensic psychiatrist and evaluator at Ohio's maximum-security state psychiatric facility, as an attending psychiatrist running an inpatient unit for violent or dangerous patients, performing court-ordered evaluations, writing reports, and testifying when necessary. I have also worked as a consultation-liaison psychiatrist, performing psychiatric consults at several general hospitals in Central Ohio's largest hospital system.

I found great enjoyment in teaching successive generations of residents and medical students, serving as an adjunct faculty member at Ohio State, Ohio University, Wright State, and OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital. I am excited for the next chapter of my journey, exploring another area of psychiatry at Talkiatry.

FAQs

How does Talkiatry work?

Talkiatry is an online psychiatry practice designed to make high-quality mental health care more accessible. We’re 100% virtual, in-network with major insurance plans, and first appointments are typically available in days.

To get started, you’ll complete a quick online assessment to tell us what you’re looking for. We’ll match you with psychiatrists who are licensed in your state, in-network with your insurance, and experienced in treating your concerns. You’ll choose the clinician you’d like to work with.

Your first visit is an in-depth evaluation where your psychiatrist will listen, provide a diagnosis, and work with you to create a treatment plan tailored to your goals and preferences. You’ll continue seeing the same clinician over time, adjusting your plan as your needs evolve. Our team is always here to help with scheduling, insurance, and questions about your care.

Do you provide therapy?

Care at Talkiatry starts with psychiatry. If you already have a Talkiatry psychiatrist, they can refer you to one of our therapists if you’ve decided together that therapy is the right next step. However, you can’t see a Talkiatry therapist if you aren’t already seeing one of our psychiatrists.

What should I do if I’m having an emergency?

Talkiatry does not provide emergency care. If you or someone you know is in crisis, please visit your nearest emergency room, call 911, or call or text the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988.

How much will my visit cost?

The majority of our visits cost patients $25 or less after insurance*, but your exact out-of-pocket cost depends on your plan. The best way to get a clear estimate is to contact your insurance provider directly. Here’s what to ask them:

  • Do I have mental health benefits that include outpatient psychiatry?
  • Is Talkiatry in-network for my plan?
  • What’s my copay or coinsurance for outpatient psychiatry visits?
  • Do I have a deductible? If so, how close am I to meeting it?
  • Do I have an out-of-pocket maximum? If so, how close am I to reaching it?
  • Are virtual or telehealth psychiatry visits covered the same as in-person care?
  • Is prior authorization required for outpatient psychiatry?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychiatry visit using CPT code 99204?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychotherapy visit using CPT code 90833?

*Includes all patient costs from 9/24-9/25: copayment, deductible, coinsurance, and $0 payments. Excludes missed appt. fees.  Your medical visit costs can vary depending on insurance coverage.

What if I don’t want to take medication?

Psychiatrists are medical doctors, and medication is often part of how they treat mental health conditions. At Talkiatry, your psychiatrist will start by listening and discussing your options with you. Medication is always your choice, but if it’s not something you’re open to considering, we may not be the best fit for ongoing care at this time.

How do I know if Talkiatry can help me?

Talkiatry provides virtual, in-network psychiatric care for people struggling with mild to moderate mental health issues. Here’s what we can help with:

  • Anxiety
  • ADHD (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder)
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Child & adolescent care
  • Depression
  • OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder)
  • Pregnancy & postpartum care
  • PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder)
  • Substance use disorder

Our goal is to connect you with the best possible care for you. At your first visit, your doctor will confirm whether Talkiatry is the right fit. If they recommend in-person or higher-level care, they’ll guide you to the appropriate resources.

What if my insurance changes from Cigna?

Insurance changes are common, and we’re here to help. Talkiatry is in-network with thousands of plans. If your insurance changes, reach out to a Care Coordinator to update your information and confirm your coverage by calling 833-351-TALK (8255).

Do I still take the assessment if I’m already diagnosed with depression?

Yes. Our online assessment is an important part of how we match you with the right psychiatrist. Your first visit will include a thorough evaluation so your psychiatrist can confirm your diagnosis and tailor your treatment plan to your current needs.
