I believe in a collaborative and compassionate approach to mental health care. I work with patients across their lifespans, integrating psychopharmacology and psychotherapy, and I integrate cultural sensitivity with evidence-based practices to provide individualized, holistic care. My interests include neurodevelopmental disorders (autism, ADHD), mood disorders, anxiety, trauma, and comorbid medical conditions.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist with experience caring for diverse patient populations presenting with an array of diagnoses. I am a board-certified psychiatrist trained in general adult psychiatry who specializes in perinatal, postpartum, and LGBTQIA+ behavioral health. My clinical practice focuses on managing a variety of mental health conditions, with particular interests in treating ADHD, OCD, anxiety, and mood disorders. I utilize a collaborative care approach to actively engage patients in treatment decisions and planning, and I integrate medication management with therapy to support a more comprehensive clinical approach. My therapy treatment focuses mainly on supportive therapy, with use of additional therapy modalities based on patient needs. I combine an evidence-based approach with consideration of individual factors in order to work with patients to create a holistic, patient-centered treatment plan.

I completed my undergraduate education at Allegheny College with a bachelor's degree in biology and a double minor in psychology and chemistry. I went on to pursue a Medical Doctorate at Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University of Buffalo, where I graduated Summa Cum Laude and was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society for academic achievement. After medical school, I completed my psychiatry residency at Allegheny Health Network. I have co-authored a book chapter on women's behavioral health and have presented posters on several different topics in mental health for the Pittsburgh Psychiatric Society, including a presentation on the identification and management of complex trauma in victims of sex trafficking. I have 2 years of training in outpatient perinatal and postpartum behavioral health and 6 months of experience working as a co-facilitator in a perinatal and postpartum intensive outpatient treatment program, both through the Alexis Joy D'Achille Foundation for Postpartum Depression at West Penn Hospital. My work as a co-facilitator included assisting patient groups in understanding and developing coping skills for a variety of therapy modalities including mindfulness, behavioral activation, interpersonal, cognitive behavioral (CBT), and dialectical behavioral (DBT) therapies. I am also dedicated to serving the LGBTQIA+ community, with experience in LGBTQIA+ patient care over 4 years at Allegheny Health Network in a variety of clinical settings including inpatient, outpatient, and intensive outpatient programs. I focus on compassionate, evidence-based care that integrates psychotherapy and psychotropic medications to promote recovery and growth. My collaborative and respectful style ensures patients feel heard while working toward meaningful goals. I emphasize setting clear expectations from the start to foster confidence and engagement. With my background in consultation-liaison psychiatry, I bring expertise in caring for individuals managing psychiatric conditions alongside significant medical illness.

The first appointment is a comprehensive evaluation, during which I carefully explore a patient's history, conditions, and symptoms. Based on this, I develop a personalized treatment plan and review it collaboratively, so expectations are clear. Future visits focus on monitoring progress, adjusting the plan as needed, and integrating both psychotherapy and medication management to best support the patient's needs and long-term growth.

I earned my medical degree from Ponce Health Sciences University, where I also served as Chief Resident in Psychiatry. I completed residency training at Ponce Health Sciences University and the U.S. Veterans Health Administration, Caribbean Healthcare System, followed by a Fellowship in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry at Montefiore Medical Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine. I am board-certified in both Psychiatry and Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry. I have served as Director of Psychiatry at the Roberto Clemente Center and Clinical Assistant Professor at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. I am bilingual in Spanish and bicultural, with published research in cultural psychiatry and stress biology, and have been recognized for teaching and leadership.

I use a compassionate and thoughtful approach in order to form a collaborative partnership with my patients. I believe in treating the person as a whole and tailoring treatments to each individual's specific needs. I hold a special interest in treating mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and OCD. I work with patients in 30-minute follow-up sessions, where in addition to medication management I provide supportive and at times psychodynamic therapeutic techniques.

I am double board certified in General Psychiatry and Addiction Psychiatry. I then completed residency at Maimonides Medical Center, where I was a Chief Resident, and subsequently pursued an addiction psychiatry fellowship at Mount Sinai Beth Israel. At the heart of my clinical approach is a strong emphasis on establishing trust, rapport, and therapeutic alliance to help persons to feel and live well and to progress toward their goals, both in treatment and in life. I begin with consultation, a compassionate, collaborative process of discovery that culminates in a working diagnostic impression and, in turn, treatment recommendations. For those with whom I engage in a treatment relationship, I provide psychoeducation, medication management, and individual psychotherapy, this last modality predominantly drawing from both psychodynamic and behavioral psychological models to tailor treatment to each patient. On some occasions, I may believe that additional therapy is needed and ask that you bring a therapist into your care team to provide the best outcome.

I am a board-certified adult psychiatrist who has been in practice for over ten years. I received my medical degree from Stanford University and went on to complete my residency in psychiatry at Harvard University. After completing training, I cultivated a private practice of psychiatry in San Francisco, California, treating persons with a variety of psychiatric illnesses, while also providing consultation and clinical supervision to psychotherapists in day-treatment and office-based practices. I then served as a psychiatry professor at the Florida Atlantic University Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine in Florida, where, as Associate Director of the Psychiatry Residency Training Program, I provided psychiatric inpatient treatment while bringing leadership, scholarship, teaching, supervision, and mentoring to psychiatry residents and medical students. Most recently, I worked as a senior medical officer/consultant psychiatrist in New Zealand's public health system, serving local communities with expert diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of mental health conditions. I also continued to supervise U.S.-based psychiatrists, along with New Zealand psychotherapists, in advanced and complex clinical psychopharmacology and psychotherapy.

I offer medication management and supportive therapy, and based on clinical need I also incorporate CBT, Mindfulness, and MI. I have special interest in women's mental health and cultural psychiatry. My practice focuses on medication management. My goals include helping people feel comfortable seeking treatment as well as promoting an understanding of the purpose and reasoning behind the use of various medications to treat psychiatric disorders. Typically, I offer this in conjunction with supportive or emotionally focused therapy in 30-minute follow-up visits. When I believe that additional therapy is also needed, I will ask that you bring a therapist into your care team to provide the best outcome. I appreciate and value working with therapists within the Talkiatry practice and in the community in a collaborative effort to promote wellness. I strive to build strong therapeutic relationships with the people I see in my practice. I have interests in pharmacogenomics as well as treatment resistant approaches to depression.

I am a board certified general psychiatrist. Before joining Talkiatry, I practiced extensively in community mental health with adults of all ages in both outpatient and inpatient settings and as the medical director of several intensive outpatient and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) based programs. I also have experience in private practice and in the dual diagnoses of mental health and substance abuse disorders. I graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Psychology and then completed medical school at West Virginia University School of Medicine. I trained during my residency at WVU, where I served as a chief resident and received the Brandon K. Fuller Award for Physician Empathy in 2017. I appear in several professional publications.

My passions include working in the community at large to encourage a better understanding of mental health disorders and to promote suicide awareness and prevention.

I uniquely combine my education, training, and practical experiences into specialized treatment plans. I typically offer this in conjunction with supportive or emotionally focused therapy in 30-minute follow-up visits. Occasionally, I may believe that additional therapy is also needed and ask that you bring a therapist into your care team to provide the best outcome. I am a board-certified psychiatrist who completed my psychiatry residency training program at Nassau University Medical Center in Long Island, NY.

A story I came across years back still inspires me each day. A man was taking a morning walk at the beach. He saw that along with the morning tide came hundreds of starfish. When the tide receded, the starfish were left behind and would die in the morning sun. While the tide was fresh and the starfish were alive, the man took a few steps, picked one up, and threw it into the water, and continued throwing starfish back into the ocean. Behind him was a stranger who couldn't understand what this man was doing. He caught up with him and asked, "What are you doing? There are hundreds of starfish. How many can you help? What difference does it make?" The man did not reply; rather, he took two more steps, picked up another one, threw it into the water, and said, "It makes a difference to this one." With this story as my motivation and ultimate objective, it has always been my goal, with each patient, to provide superior services.

FAQs

How does Talkiatry work?

Talkiatry is an online psychiatry practice designed to make high-quality mental health care more accessible. We’re 100% virtual, in-network with major insurance plans, and first appointments are typically available in days.

To get started, you’ll complete a quick online assessment to tell us what you’re looking for. We’ll match you with psychiatrists who are licensed in your state, in-network with your insurance, and experienced in treating your concerns. You’ll choose the clinician you’d like to work with.

Your first visit is an in-depth evaluation where your psychiatrist will listen, provide a diagnosis, and work with you to create a treatment plan tailored to your goals and preferences. You’ll continue seeing the same clinician over time, adjusting your plan as your needs evolve. Our team is always here to help with scheduling, insurance, and questions about your care.

Do you provide therapy?

Care at Talkiatry starts with psychiatry. If you already have a Talkiatry psychiatrist, they can refer you to one of our therapists if you’ve decided together that therapy is the right next step. However, you can’t see a Talkiatry therapist if you aren’t already seeing one of our psychiatrists.

What should I do if I’m having an emergency?

Talkiatry does not provide emergency care. If you or someone you know is in crisis, please visit your nearest emergency room, call 911, or call or text the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988.

How much will my visit cost?

The majority of our visits cost patients $25 or less after insurance*, but your exact out-of-pocket cost depends on your plan. The best way to get a clear estimate is to contact your insurance provider directly. Here’s what to ask them:

  • Do I have mental health benefits that include outpatient psychiatry?
  • Is Talkiatry in-network for my plan?
  • What’s my copay or coinsurance for outpatient psychiatry visits?
  • Do I have a deductible? If so, how close am I to meeting it?
  • Do I have an out-of-pocket maximum? If so, how close am I to reaching it?
  • Are virtual or telehealth psychiatry visits covered the same as in-person care?
  • Is prior authorization required for outpatient psychiatry?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychiatry visit using CPT code 99204?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychotherapy visit using CPT code 90833?

*Includes all patient costs from 9/24-9/25: copayment, deductible, coinsurance, and $0 payments. Excludes missed appt. fees.  Your medical visit costs can vary depending on insurance coverage.

What if I don’t want to take medication?

Psychiatrists are medical doctors, and medication is often part of how they treat mental health conditions. At Talkiatry, your psychiatrist will start by listening and discussing your options with you. Medication is always your choice, but if it’s not something you’re open to considering, we may not be the best fit for ongoing care at this time.

How do I know if Talkiatry can help me?

Talkiatry provides virtual, in-network psychiatric care for people struggling with mild to moderate mental health issues. Here’s what we can help with:

  • Anxiety
  • ADHD (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder)
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Child & adolescent care
  • Depression
  • OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder)
  • Pregnancy & postpartum care
  • PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder)
  • Substance use disorder

Our goal is to connect you with the best possible care for you. At your first visit, your doctor will confirm whether Talkiatry is the right fit. If they recommend in-person or higher-level care, they’ll guide you to the appropriate resources.

What if my insurance changes from Cigna?

Insurance changes are common, and we’re here to help. Talkiatry is in-network with thousands of plans. If your insurance changes, reach out to a Care Coordinator to update your information and confirm your coverage by calling 833-351-TALK (8255).

Do I still take the assessment if I’m already diagnosed with Postpartum Depression?

Yes. Our online assessment is an important part of how we match you with the right psychiatrist. Your first visit will include a thorough evaluation so your psychiatrist can confirm your diagnosis and tailor your treatment plan to your current needs.
