Anthony Thornton, MD

Dr. Thornton always knew medicine was his calling, but he never expected psychiatry to be where he would make his greatest impact. During his early medical training, something felt missing. The rigorous rounds and clinical protocols were necessary, but the human experience the patient’s story, their fears, their hopes often felt overlooked. He wanted to do more than diagnose; he wanted to understand.

That drive led Dr. Thorton to a career spanning over 30 years in psychiatry, where he has dedicated himself to helping individuals navigate the complexities of mental health with compassion and expertise. His approach is deeply personal. One patient once shared that she chose him from a lineup of providers simply because “he looked like someone who would listen.” That moment reinforced what he had always believed true healing starts with being heard.

Dr. Thornton collaborates with each patient to explore what matters most to them, integrating therapy and medication options tailored to their needs. His specialties include individual therapy, supportive counseling, grief work, and cognitive behavioral psychiatry. He has extensive experience treating a wide range of conditions, including depression, anxiety, panic disorders, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, PTSD, ADHD, and OCD.

Dr. Thornton utilizes multi-modality treatment strategies, recognizing that each individual’s path to healing is unique. He seeks to collaborate with providers who are equally knowledgeable and empathetic—professionals who share his passion for helping others. With a steadfast belief that true strength lies in the gentle balance of mind, body, and spirit, Dr. Thornton is dedicated to being a guiding light for those navigating their personal journeys toward mental wellness and inner peace.

Treatment plans often include a combination of lifestyle modifications, therapy, and medication, when indicated. Her goal is to use a person-centered approach to identify the most effective strategies to address each individual's presenting concerns, recognizing that each journey is unique.

This will involve an in-depth clinical interview where Dr. Harris will ask questions about the presenting concerns and symptoms and the use of validated rating-scales. Catherine Shim, MD

Catherine Shim, MD

Dr. Catherine Shim is a board-certified psychiatrist and completed her training at the University of Washington, where she received additional certifications in Psychotherapy and Community Psychiatry.  Prior to joining Talkiatry, she spent years serving the mental health needs of underserved communities as well as our Veteran population.  Dr. Cat is excited to bring that same dedication and selfless service to her Talkiatry patients!

Dr. Cat is experienced in managing a multitude of mental health conditions, but her specialty is providing behaviorally oriented trauma-informed care.  Her approach is to treat primarily through psychotherapy and behavioral change, with medication management serving as an important (and often essential) adjuvant to optimizing mental health.

Dr. Cat tends to have a very casual engagement style, so expect a frank but open conversation during your first meetings with her.  Following that initial screening, anticipate a candid discussion about her approach to your condition and an initial treatment plan.  Please feel free to bring up any questions or concerns at any time during this process, and note-taking is highly encouraged!
