I completed my psychiatry residency training at Howard University Hospital and Saint Elizabeth's Hospital in Washington, DC, where I was voted Chief Resident. I went on to serve as Vice Chair of the Department of Psychiatry at Adventist HealthCare in Maryland, where I worked in both an administrative and clinical role treating adults in inpatient settings. Additionally, I served as a Clinical Instructor of Psychiatry at Georgetown University School of Medicine, teaching medical students about the art of medicine. I received my undergraduate degree in Neuroscience from the University of Michigan and my medical degree from Xavier University School of Medicine.

Sydney Horton, DO
Sydney Horton, DO, is a psychiatrist with experience practicing in child, adolescent, and adult outpatient and inpatient settings, including acute and long-term care. Dr. Horton earned a medical degree from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine and completed general psychiatry residency and child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship training at UT Tyler Health Science Center in Tyler, TX. Dr. Horton aims to create a collaborative environment where patients feel comfortable communicating openly and honestly about their symptoms and treatment goals. She values working together to ensure each patient feels respected and that their individual goals are being met.
Dr. Horton begins by taking a thorough history and learning about the patient’s immediate concerns and overall treatment goals during the initial evaluation. Treatment follows evidence-based practices and current standards in psychiatry. Controlled substances may be considered on a case-by-case basis, and symptoms and diagnoses may continue to be reassessed throughout the treatment process.

Dr. Tasha Vazquez, MD
Dr. Tasha Vazquez is a psychiatrist with expertise in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), psychodynamic psychotherapy, and integrative psychiatry. She is passionate about helping individuals improve their mental health through a thoughtful combination of psychotherapy, lifestyle wellness, nutrition, and evidence-based treatment. Dr. Vazquez works with patients experiencing anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, ADHD, and life transitions, and has a special interest in supporting LGBTQ+ individuals, women’s mental health, and college-age young adults.
Dr. Vazquez believes effective psychiatric care begins with trust, collaboration, and meeting patients where they are. She takes a warm, supportive, and holistic approach, tailoring treatment to each patient’s unique goals and needs. Depending on the individual, treatment may include psychotherapy, lifestyle and wellness strategies, medication management, or a combination of these approaches.
Dr. Vazquez begins with a thorough evaluation to understand each patient’s experiences, concerns, and priorities. Together, they develop an individualized treatment plan grounded in three core principles: talk therapy, evidence-based medication treatment, and lifestyle medicine. Her goal is to create a personalized path forward that supports lasting mental wellness and meaningful progress.

Dr. Taylor Brady, MD
My approach is rooted in compassion, collaboration, and respect for your unique story. I view mental health treatment as a partnership, one where psychotherapy and medication can work together to support your growth and healing. My goal is to help you uncover the patterns and behaviors that may be holding you back, and empower you to make meaningful, sustainable change. I encourage patients to take ownership of their mental health, and I am here to provide the tools, guidance, and support you need along the way.
We'll begin by taking the time to understand your story, your goals, and what brings you to treatment. The first few sessions focus on building trust and identifying the areas where you'd like to see change. From there, we'll collaboratively develop a treatment plan that may include psychotherapy, medication, or both, always tailored to your needs. I draw from multiple therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, to provide care that fits you, not the other way around. Throughout our work, I'll support you in developing insight, resilience, and confidence in managing your mental health.
My background includes medical training at the University of Utah, where I served as Student Body President, and psychiatric residency at the University of Texas, where I served as Inpatient Chief Resident and received awards for both clinical excellence and medical education. I hold an MD and an MBA.
Outside of clinical care, I am deeply interested in narrative medicine, the way our personal stories shape our mental health, and I found my passion for mental health care through the power of listening to people's stories. I bring that same commitment and curiosity to my work with patients.

Dr. Tejaskumar Patel, MD
I combine deep knowledge of neurobiology, behavioral health, and the mind-body connection to offer a collaborative, evidence-based, and holistic approach to care. I integrate diet, exercise, yoga, meditation, and lifestyle modifications with psychotherapy and medication management. My approach emphasizes active listening, curiosity, compassion, and even humor, creating a warm and supportive environment. By encouraging patients to integrate their unique life experiences into their treatment, I foster ownership, empowerment, and active participation in the healing process.
I am a distinguished psychiatrist with over 24 years of experience. I completed my psychiatric residency at the University of South Dakota School of Medicine, where I served as chief resident and earned the Outstanding Resident of the Year award, then pursued a fellowship in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School/Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. I am triple Board certified in Adult Psychiatry, Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry, and Sleep Medicine, and I also hold certification in Behavioral Neurology and Neuropsychiatry from the United Council for Neurological Subspecialties. These credentials reflect my expertise in psychiatry, neurology, and the management of complex psychiatric conditions in medically ill patients.
I have worked in diverse settings including inpatient units, psychiatric consult services, outpatient clinics, and nursing homes, and I am skilled in neuromodulation treatments such as Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS). I have also served in leadership roles as chairman of a psychiatric department, medical director of a behavioral health service line in a regional health system, and founder/CEO of a private psychiatric and TMS clinic. I remain at the forefront of psychiatric advancements, earning a reputation as a respected leader in the field.
During your first visit, I will review your symptoms, medical and psychiatric history, past treatments, substance use, psychosocial factors, and family history. I will discuss treatment options, including risks and benefits, and determine if my expertise and the telehealth platform are the right fit for your needs. Your safety is my top priority. Follow-up visits focus on monitoring progress, adjusting treatments, maintaining stability, and supporting your motivation to achieve your fullest potential.

Dr. Thomas Rodriguez, MD
I specialize in treating depression and anxiety. I acknowledge that while medications can be necessary, they are not magic, and a holistic approach is essential for achieving mental health. With this understanding, I spend time getting to know my patients, focusing on helping them achieve mental wellness rather than simply prescribing medications. When I became a doctor, I made a pledge to "do no harm." I take this commitment seriously and only prescribe medications, especially those with addictive properties, when it is safe and clearly indicated.
The first one or two appointments focus on a thorough assessment to establish a provisional diagnosis, which is essential for effective treatment planning. Once this initial diagnosis is made, I collaborate with my patients to develop tailored treatment recommendations. During follow-up appointments, I actively listen to my patients and propose adjustments to the treatment plan as needed.
I am a board-certified adult psychiatrist. I earned my medical degree from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and completed my residency at the University of Southern California. I have experience working in a variety of settings, including inpatient, outpatient, community mental health, and correctional facilities.

He completed his Psychiatry Residency at the University of Miami and currently works in an outpatient setting with an emphasis on mood and anxiety disorders.

Dr. Troy Grantham, MD
My practice focuses on medication management, and I utilize a systematic approach to ensure diagnoses are accurate and treatment plans are optimized to each individual patient. My approach is also holistic in nature, often incorporating therapy and lifestyle modification into the treatment plan. I employ multiple therapeutic approaches depending on the needs of the patient, including supportive therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I place great emphasis on psychoeducation so that patients are aware of the nature and prognosis of their conditions as well as the treatment options available. In addition, I also assist patients with tapering medications if they are not necessary. When multiple treatment options are reasonable, I take patient preference into account, offering flexibility to the patient experience. I treat a variety of psychiatric disorders with a particular focus on mood disorders, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and trauma-related disorders.
I am a board-certified staff psychiatrist who treats adult patients. A former engineer, I have developed a passion for guiding patients along the road to recovery. I completed my undergraduate studies at The University of Texas at Austin and later completed medical school and residency in General Psychiatry at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.
Please note: I do not prescribe long-term, daily benzodiazepines or Z-drugs; however, I am happy to help you taper off these medications and transition to a safer, long-term medication regimen. I do not prescribe controlled substances if there is any illicit substance use, cannabis or THC product use, or concerning alcohol use, and I may refer to an alternate level of care for substance use disorder treatment if I determine it is clinically indicated.
In addition, for the primary concern of difficulty with concentration or inattention, I obtain a thorough history, screen for mental health conditions that may be contributing, order labs to screen for other contributing causes, order an electrocardiogram or refer to a cardiologist if clinically indicated, and advise the patient to have a family member present if possible to clarify history of symptoms. It may take several visits for me to have a full picture to make a fully informed diagnosis and recommendation. I do not prescribe stimulant medication unless determined to be clearly clinically indicated and safe to prescribe, vitals (height, weight, blood pressure, and pulse) are provided, and workup is completed.

Find a psychiatrist in Texas
Getting a psychiatrist appointment in Texas can mean a long drive and an even longer wait. Talkiatry connects you with a licensed psychiatrist in Texas for online appointments, so you can be seen from anywhere in the state without leaving home. Many patients get their first visit within days rather than waiting months for a local opening.
How online psychiatry works in Texas
You start with a short online assessment, then get matched with a psychiatrist licensed in Texas based on your needs. Visits happen by secure video from home, so there is no commute and no waiting room. Your first appointment lasts 60 minutes, which gives you time to talk through your symptoms, ask questions, and build a treatment plan with your psychiatrist. Follow-ups are usually about 30 minutes. Your psychiatrist has to be licensed where you are during the visit, so you can meet with a Texas-licensed doctor whether you live in Houston, El Paso, or a small town in between.
What a psychiatrist in Texas can help with
An online psychiatrist in Texas can help with a wide range of conditions, including anxiety, depression, and ADHD. Psychiatrists are medical doctors, so they can evaluate your symptoms, prescribe medication, and manage it over time. Medication is one possible part of a plan, not an automatic result of a visit. Depending on your needs, your psychiatrist may also recommend therapy as part of your care. The goal is a plan built around you, not a one-size-fits-all script.
Does insurance cover a psychiatrist in Texas?
Talkiatry is in-network with major insurers, so you can use your mental health benefits for online care. You check your coverage during the free assessment, before you ever schedule a visit, so there are no surprises. What you pay out of pocket depends on your specific plan, so it is a good idea to confirm the details with your insurer.
Getting mental health care in Texas
Finding a psychiatrist in Texas is genuinely hard for a lot of people, and the numbers show why. Texas has 393 designated mental health Health Professional Shortage Areas covering about 13.44 million people, and only about 32.2% of the need for psychiatric care is currently met. The federal government estimates it would take about 606 more practitioners to lift those shortage designations (according to KFF as of 12/31/25). For you, that shortage often means long waits or a drive to another town. Online psychiatry helps by connecting you with a licensed psychiatrist anywhere in Texas, rather than limiting you to the few providers near your home.
