Doreen Phillips, PMHNP
Doreen Phillips, PMHNP-BC, is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with over a decade of nursing experience beginning in 2014. She earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of the Incarnate Word in Texas and also holds degrees in Economics and Finance, Nursing, and Management Information Systems, giving her a uniquely analytical and systems-thinking perspective in mental health care. Her clinical background spans maternal and newborn care, inpatient psychiatry for adolescents and adults, community health, and telehealth. Doreen specializes in treating adults ages 18–65 with ADHD, anxiety, depression, insomnia, and chronic trauma, and is particularly passionate about supporting mothers, college students, and individuals navigating major life transitions.
Doreen brings a down-to-earth, authentic, and transparent presence to every session. She believes meaningful progress starts with comfort and trust, so she intentionally creates a space where patients feel safe being open. Her approach centers on seeing each person as a whole individual rather than a diagnosis, recognizing how culture, environment, family dynamics, and life experiences shape mental health. She practices with a holistic, solution-focused lens and integrates supportive therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help patients understand patterns and develop lasting tools for wellness. Doreen is committed to inclusive, culturally humble care and continually studies evidence-based and emerging approaches to provide thoughtful, personalized treatment.
Doreen approaches care through conversation rather than a rigid intake checklist. She believes a person’s story provides the most meaningful insight, so early sessions focus on understanding background, experiences, and goals. She views each patient like a puzzle, gathering pieces such as childhood history, family influences, and social context before forming a clinical picture. Together, she and her patients develop collaborative, individualized treatment plans. Medication is used thoughtfully—as a tool that can stabilize and support deeper therapeutic work rather than serve as the sole solution. Progress is monitored through screening tools, patient feedback, and ongoing dialogue, with strong emphasis on education so patients fully understand their care.
