I use an integrative approach to health in my psychiatric practice, combining evidence-based concepts in neurobiology with psychological, social, and spiritual/existential worldviews to understand and treat every patient. My primary practice is medication management, and I also integrate elements of psychotherapy into my work, typically within 30-minute follow-up visits. In addition to medication and psychotherapy, I incorporate wellness tools into visits, such as mindfulness exercises and sleep management strategies. If I believe that additional psychotherapy is needed, I will recommend that you add a therapist to your care team. My primary focus is working with adults with mood and anxiety disorders, trauma symptoms, ADHD, and problems with sleep. I enjoy working with people facing life transitions, especially older adults and women who are struggling with mental health challenges related to pregnancy and post-partum health. I have extensive experience working with people from many stages of life, with diverse world views and cultural backgrounds. I have always had an inclusive practice and welcome people who identify as LBGTQIA+.

I am board certified in Adult Psychiatry and Sleep Medicine. I received my medical degree from Weill Cornell Medical School and my PhD in Neurobiology from The Rockefeller University. I completed my Psychiatry residency and Sleep Medicine Fellowship training at the New York University Medical Center. Prior to joining Talkiatry, I was working at Hartford Healthcare with adults in intensive outpatient programs and at Hackensack Meridian Health outpatient clinics. I was the medical director of the Consultation Liaison Service at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, and an assistant professor at UMass Medical School.

I have published and presented widely on topics related to Wellness in Psychiatry, Ethics, and Sleep Medicine. I am an advocate for finding your voice in medical decision-making. As part of my own life path, I became an Interfaith Minister and enjoy including spirituality and the supportive role it can play in healing for my patients. I also enjoy using sound healing for relaxation and stress management.

I specialize in medication management, often incorporating supportive and cognitive-behavioral-focused therapy into treatment. My primary areas of focus include treating adults with depression, anxiety, and stress/trauma-related disorders. I take a collaborative approach and may recommend additional therapy when I believe it will optimize patient outcomes.

I am a board-certified general psychiatrist. I earned my medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and completed my psychiatry residency at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, HI. After my training, I was stationed at Fort Hood, TX, where I worked as a staff physician in the inpatient unit at Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center and later became the inpatient medical director. I subsequently transitioned to outpatient care, serving as a staff physician and later as clinic chief in the outpatient embedded behavioral health clinics. I continued working as a staff physician after leaving the military.

During the first visit, patients can expect a comprehensive evaluation where I take the time to understand their symptoms, history, and treatment goals. I prioritize a structured yet patient-centered approach, discussing medication management options while considering therapeutic interventions tailored to individual needs. Follow-up visits typically last 30 minutes, during which I evaluate progress and adjust treatment as needed. If necessary, I may recommend additional therapy as part of a well-rounded treatment plan.

I take great pride in forming meaningful connections with my patients and listening to their concerns. I rely on evidence-based treatments to guide pharmacotherapy decisions, and in addition to medication management, I incorporate supportive psychotherapy and psychodynamic psychotherapy techniques in my visits. When appropriate, I will refer patients for further psychotherapy and collaborate with therapists to provide more comprehensive care. I believe in building a strong therapeutic relationship that empowers patients to join in a collaborative discussion for optimizing their individual treatment plans and reaching their defined goals.

I completed my medical training at the University of Georgia/Augusta University Medical Partnership. While in medical school, I received a Master of Business Administration at the University of Georgia. I then moved to North Carolina to complete my psychiatric residency training at the Brody School of Medicine/ECU Health Medical Center. During my training, I gained extensive clinical experience working with adults and veterans in psychiatric inpatient, outpatient, and emergency settings. I also served as a chief resident of the psychiatry program and published several case studies.

I will conduct a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and take time to understand each patient's individual concerns, mental health goals, and history.

My practice focuses on medication management, though I passionately believe in a holistic approach. I have a gentle and approachable style when providing medication management in conjunction with supportive psychotherapy, and at times Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques to more fully address each individual's needs. I utilize mindfulness approaches as well, which I find personally meaningful in my practices of meditation and yoga. I have experience treating patients with depressive and bipolar disorders, anxiety disorders, PTSD, and OCD.

I attended Boston University for my undergraduate studies and Loyola Marymount University for graduate school. I then completed my training at Midwestern University Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine for medical school and Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine for residency, where I was selected to serve as Chief Resident during my final year. I am a board-certified Psychiatrist. After completion of my residency in 2016, I dedicated seven years to serving a wide range of patients in a community mental health setting, both in-person and via telepsychiatry. I also serve as a provider at an Intensive Outpatient Program. I also have extensive teaching experience in various settings.

If I feel you would benefit from working with a therapist as well, I may recommend that, as I value a collaborative approach.

I practice thoughtful and evidence-based medication management. My practice focuses on medication management, and I utilize a systematic approach to ensure diagnoses are accurate and treatment plans are optimized to each individual patient. My approach is also holistic in nature, often incorporating therapy and lifestyle modification into the treatment plan. I employ multiple therapeutic approaches depending on the needs of the patient, including supportive therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I place great emphasis on psychoeducation so that patients are aware of the nature and prognosis of their conditions as well as the treatment options available. When multiple treatment options are reasonable, I take patient preference into account, offering flexibility to the patient experience. I treat a variety of psychiatric disorders with a particular focus on mood disorders, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and trauma-related disorders.

I am a board-certified staff psychiatrist who treats adult patients. A former engineer, I have developed a passion for guiding patients along the road to recovery. I completed my undergraduate studies at The University of Texas at Austin and later completed medical school and residency in General Psychiatry at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.

Please note: I do not prescribe long-term, daily benzodiazepine medications; however, I am happy to help you taper off of these medications and transition to a safer, long-term medication regimen.

I value a holistic perspective in care, emphasizing empathy, understanding, and patient-centered treatment. I foster open, clear communication and collaborate with clients to explore the causes of symptoms, as well as the strengths and behaviors that support resiliency and well-being. I also consider daily routines and life contexts that influence mental health.

I earned my medical degree from A.T. Still University – Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed my psychiatry residency at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. I have practiced in diverse academic outpatient settings, using a multidisciplinary approach to understand clients and develop personalized treatment plans. I also served as medical director of a large academic outpatient clinic, overseeing psychiatrists, residents, psychology students, and advanced practitioners.

During the initial appointment, I conduct a thorough evaluation of concerns, history, and functioning, completing any necessary screenings. I then develop a personalized treatment plan collaboratively, reviewing potential therapeutic interventions. Follow-up visits typically combine medication management, if appropriate, with brief psychotherapeutic support, adjusting intervals based on client needs, monitoring, and treatment progress.

I value honesty and authenticity and believe meaningful progress comes from sharing what is truly happening in one's life. I bring my full humanity to treatment and honor the role of spirituality, recognizing body, mind, and spirit as essential to healing. I embrace creativity and encourage openness to new perspectives and solutions. I spend more time listening than talking and view myself as a guide and teacher rather than a director. I work to build a collaborative partnership focused on the patient's goals and may offer recommendations, while emphasizing that each person remains responsible for their own growth and progress.

I earned my medical degree from Northeast Ohio Medical University and completed Psychiatry Residency and Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center. I focus on an individualized treatment plan, not only using pharmacotherapy when needed, but also implementing insight-oriented, supportive, motivational, and brief psychotherapy. I am a firm believer in combining psychotherapy with medication management when warranted to manage and treat a wide variety of mental health conditions including, but not limited to, Depressive Disorders, Bipolar Disorders, Psychotic Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Trauma related disorders, Substance use disorders, Personality disorders, Sleep Disorders, and Eating Disorders. My dynamic approach is client focused, involving the client throughout their treatment and care plan, taking careful consideration to the individual's needs and goals.

I was born and raised in St. Louis, MO and am board certified with ABPN (American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology). Upon completion of my residency through St. Louis University, St. Louis, I joined my parents' Internal Medicine practice. I learned firsthand that implementing mental health awareness, screening, and education into a primary medically focused practice led to more favorable outcomes. Many mental health conditions can manifest as and/or exacerbate a variety of medical/physical conditions and thereby go undiagnosed and untreated. I have worked closely and coordinated care within the medical field and with other specialists in treating and diagnosing comorbid mental health conditions.

While in private practice for over 10 years, I was also an attending and consultant for inpatient mental health care and provided mental health services for residents in various residential care facilities, group homes, and skilled nursing facilities. Over the past 5 years I have consolidated my practice and am presently employed with Compass Health Network in Missouri, helping bridge the gap in mental health care by coordinating and providing care to the underserved community.

I believe trust is the foundation of meaningful treatment. I aim to create a space where patients feel seen and supported yet thoughtfully challenged, using genuine curiosity, warm humor, humility, and a direct style. I collaborate with each patient to develop holistic, realistic treatment plans that may or may not include medication. My therapeutic work blends psychodynamic and humanistic approaches, with availability for a limited number of weekly psychotherapy patients. In the first appointment, I explore each patient's life story, asking detailed questions to understand them as a whole person. I then focus on their immediate concerns and work collaboratively over time to refine a treatment plan that balances symptom relief with deeper, long-term healing. I think integratively and holistically, considering medical and mental health history, lifestyle, self-narrative, psychological structure, cultural and spiritual background, and broader societal influences.

I earned my undergraduate degree from Northwestern University, my medical degree from Texas A&M University College of Medicine, and completed psychiatry residency at the University of Colorado Anschutz School of Medicine. I am ABPN certified in Psychiatry and completed a rigorous 3-year psychotherapy scholars track, gaining experience across multiple therapeutic modalities. During residency, I served as outpatient chief resident and was recognized with a selective service excellence and leadership award. Before medical school, I worked as a project manager for a large electronic health corporation.

FAQs

How does Talkiatry work?

Talkiatry is an online psychiatry practice designed to make high-quality mental health care more accessible. We’re 100% virtual, in-network with major insurance plans, and first appointments are typically available in days.

To get started, you’ll complete a quick online assessment to tell us what you’re looking for. We’ll match you with psychiatrists who are licensed in your state, in-network with your insurance, and experienced in treating your concerns. You’ll choose the clinician you’d like to work with.

Your first visit is an in-depth evaluation where your psychiatrist will listen, provide a diagnosis, and work with you to create a treatment plan tailored to your goals and preferences. You’ll continue seeing the same clinician over time, adjusting your plan as your needs evolve. Our team is always here to help with scheduling, insurance, and questions about your care.

Do you provide therapy?

Care at Talkiatry starts with psychiatry. If you already have a Talkiatry psychiatrist, they can refer you to one of our therapists if you’ve decided together that therapy is the right next step. However, you can’t see a Talkiatry therapist if you aren’t already seeing one of our psychiatrists.

What should I do if I’m having an emergency?

Talkiatry does not provide emergency care. If you or someone you know is in crisis, please visit your nearest emergency room, call 911, or call or text the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988.

How much will my visit cost?

The majority of our visits cost patients $25 or less after insurance*, but your exact out-of-pocket cost depends on your plan. The best way to get a clear estimate is to contact your insurance provider directly. Here’s what to ask them:

  • Do I have mental health benefits that include outpatient psychiatry?
  • Is Talkiatry in-network for my plan?
  • What’s my copay or coinsurance for outpatient psychiatry visits?
  • Do I have a deductible? If so, how close am I to meeting it?
  • Do I have an out-of-pocket maximum? If so, how close am I to reaching it?
  • Are virtual or telehealth psychiatry visits covered the same as in-person care?
  • Is prior authorization required for outpatient psychiatry?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychiatry visit using CPT code 99204?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychotherapy visit using CPT code 90833?

*Includes all patient costs from 9/24-9/25: copayment, deductible, coinsurance, and $0 payments. Excludes missed appt. fees.  Your medical visit costs can vary depending on insurance coverage.

What if I don’t want to take medication?

Psychiatrists are medical doctors, and medication is often part of how they treat mental health conditions. At Talkiatry, your psychiatrist will start by listening and discussing your options with you. Medication is always your choice, but if it’s not something you’re open to considering, we may not be the best fit for ongoing care at this time.

How do I know if Talkiatry can help me?

Talkiatry provides virtual, in-network psychiatric care for people struggling with mild to moderate mental health issues. Here’s what we can help with:

  • Anxiety
  • ADHD (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder)
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Child & adolescent care
  • Depression
  • OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder)
  • Pregnancy & postpartum care
  • PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder)
  • Substance use disorder

Our goal is to connect you with the best possible care for you. At your first visit, your doctor will confirm whether Talkiatry is the right fit. If they recommend in-person or higher-level care, they’ll guide you to the appropriate resources.

What if my insurance changes from United Healthcare?

Insurance changes are common, and we’re here to help. Talkiatry is in-network with thousands of plans. If your insurance changes, reach out to a Care Coordinator to update your information and confirm your coverage by calling 833-351-TALK (8255).

Do I still take the assessment if I’m already diagnosed with anxiety?

Yes. Our online assessment is an important part of how we match you with the right psychiatrist. Your first visit will include a thorough evaluation so your psychiatrist can confirm your diagnosis and tailor your treatment plan to your current needs.
