I value compassion and collaboration in the treatment relationship. I help patients navigate depression, anxiety, ADHD, and post-traumatic stress, while also supporting those facing major life transitions. My approach combines evidence-based medication management, supportive therapy, and psychoeducation, and I tailor each treatment plan to the individual while offering encouragement and structure. I bring a systems-based, culturally informed perspective to my work, with specialized interest and expertise in cultural psychiatry.

I am a board-certified adult psychiatrist with over 15 years of experience supporting individuals with diverse backgrounds and identities. I earned my undergraduate degree from Brown University and my medical degree from Morehouse School of Medicine, and I completed psychiatry residency and research fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. Organizations including the American Psychiatric Association, National Institute of Mental Health, and Philadelphia Department of Behavioral Health have recognized my research examining cultural influences on mental health beliefs and service utilization.

My leadership of multidisciplinary teams has included serving as associate medical director of a women's trauma program and founding an integrated care program for underserved communities. I have directed academic training programs, presented at national conferences, and led numerous community-based events focused on mental health awareness and stigma reduction.

I take a collaborative and compassionate approach to both medication management and psychotherapy. I enjoy utilizing various forms of psychotherapy to empower individuals to lead healthier, more fulfilling lives, and I particularly enjoy incorporating elements of supportive, psychodynamic, and cognitive behavioral therapies in all visits. I practice thoughtful and evidence-based medication management. I enjoy working with students and adults with anxiety, OCD, PTSD, and mood disorders, and I also have a special interest in women's mental health.

I am a board-certified adult psychiatrist. I completed my undergraduate education at Johns Hopkins University, where I graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a bachelor's in neuroscience, and I later attended medical school at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. My interest in neuroscience, combined with a passion for the humanistic side of medicine, led me to pursue a psychiatry residency at NYU, where I gained experience working with a diverse patient population. After completing residency in 2018, I chose to pursue private practice to allow more time with patients and to build on my interest in psychotherapy. I spent over 6 years in solo and group private practice in Los Angeles. I am committed to working with insurance-based practices, as I am passionate about providing affordable access to quality healthcare.

I begin each encounter with gentle curiosity, inviting patients to share their stories without fear of judgment. Together, I craft an individualized treatment plan with the patient that may include medication, psychotherapy, and/or referrals to subspecialty care, always in close collaboration with other members on the treatment team. My therapeutic orientation is informed by psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, and dialectical behavior modalities. I have expertise in the treatment of a diverse range of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, OCD, and PTSD. I use a developmentally informed and LGBTQ-affirmative approach in my practice, with the aim of enriching meaning and alleviating suffering in the domains of work, play, and love.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist. I earned my undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Biological Sciences at the University of Maryland, where I also obtained my medical degree. I completed my psychiatry residency at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, received additional training in child and adolescent psychiatry at Columbia and Cornell, and finished a psychoanalytic fellowship at the New York Psychoanalytic Society & Institute. Prior to joining Talkiatry, I was an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania, where I provided clinical care and teaching along the undergraduate-graduate medical education continuum.

I emphasize a patient-centered approach and believe that best treatment outcomes result from a strong therapeutic relationship between a patient and a psychiatrist. I treat a variety of psychiatric disorders in adults, including depression, anxiety, and PTSD. I do not treat patients with ADHD. I offer medication management and therapy through telehealth sessions, in both English and Korean.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist. I obtained my bachelor's degree from Tufts University, where I double majored in Biopsychology and Art History. At the heart of my clinical approach is a strong emphasis on establishing trust, rapport, and therapeutic alliance to help persons to feel and live well and to progress toward their goals, both in treatment and in life. I begin with consultation, a compassionate, collaborative process of discovery that culminates in a working diagnostic impression and, in turn, treatment recommendations. For those with whom I engage in a treatment relationship, I provide psychoeducation, medication management, and individual psychotherapy, this last modality predominantly drawing from both psychodynamic and behavioral psychological models to tailor treatment to each patient. On some occasions, I may believe that additional therapy is needed and ask that you bring a therapist into your care team to provide the best outcome.

I am a board-certified adult psychiatrist who has been in practice for over ten years. I received my medical degree from Stanford University and went on to complete my residency in psychiatry at Harvard University. After completing training, I cultivated a private practice of psychiatry in San Francisco, California, treating persons with a variety of psychiatric illnesses, while also providing consultation and clinical supervision to psychotherapists in day-treatment and office-based practices. I then served as a psychiatry professor at the Florida Atlantic University Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine in Florida, where, as Associate Director of the Psychiatry Residency Training Program, I provided psychiatric inpatient treatment while bringing leadership, scholarship, teaching, supervision, and mentoring to psychiatry residents and medical students. Most recently, I worked as a senior medical officer/consultant psychiatrist in New Zealand's public health system, serving local communities with expert diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of mental health conditions. I also continued to supervise U.S.-based psychiatrists, along with New Zealand psychotherapists, in advanced and complex clinical psychopharmacology and psychotherapy.

I primarily treat mood disorders, anxiety disorders, ADHD, PTSD, OCD, and insomnia. I provide a combination of medication management and supportive psychotherapy. Occasionally, I may work with you on finding additional support as well, including bringing on a dedicated therapist as part of your treatment team.

My practice focuses on medication management. I work to foster a safe and collaborative space in which patients can address psychiatric illness and other barriers holding them back from the lives they want to lead. Typically, I offer appointments for medication management coupled with supportive or emotionally focused therapy in 30-minute sessions. When I feel that additional therapy is needed, I will suggest inviting a therapist to join the team for additional support and guidance. I welcome collaborations with other clinicians, be they therapists or other physicians caring for my patients. I strive to build strong therapeutic relationships that help patients grow and meet their goals, whatever their situation, challenge, or life stage. I welcome patients from all walks of life and cultural backgrounds and am LGBTQ+ friendly.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist. Before joining Talkiatry, I practiced consult-liaison psychiatry, seeing medically ill patients with psychiatric problems at the Department of Veterans Affairs, where I also treated veterans in nursing homes. I graduated from New York University with a B.A. in philosophy and photography and worked in nonprofit marketing in New York before deciding to pursue a life in medicine. Following a post-baccalaureate, pre-medical program at Columbia University, I completed medical school at The University of Maryland, followed by a psychiatry residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. While at Johns Hopkins, I mastered clinical assessment and treatment of general psychiatric problems. I also received specialized training in eating disorders, addiction, reproductive psychiatry, chronic pain, and geriatric psychiatry, an interest I pursued further with a fellowship at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. In fellowship and in my subsequent experience at the VA, I developed expertise in caring for the difficulties that can accompany aging, including depression, anxiety, and memory loss, as well as the stress of medical illness. In addition to my background in geriatrics, I have experience working with peripartum women and enjoy working with patients navigating major life changes.

I value open communication, transparency, and collaboration, and take a friendly, supportive approach to patient care. I practice evidence-based medicine with a thoughtful, minimalist approach to pharmacologic treatment, often favoring single agents that can address multiple concerns when clinically appropriate. My approach to care is holistic, integrating psychiatric diagnoses, comorbid conditions, social context, and lifestyle factors. Sessions include supportive psychotherapy, incorporating techniques from other modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and psychodynamic approaches as appropriate. Initial visits emphasize diagnostic clarity and collaborative goal-setting, while follow-up sessions focus on patient priorities, shared decision-making, and personalized strategies that support meaningful, sustainable progress. I have a particular interest in perinatal mental health.

I earned my medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School, where I worked with refugee populations and participated in global health initiatives. I completed my psychiatry residency at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, serving as inpatient chief resident. I have experience across the full continuum of psychiatric care, including higher levels of care, collaborative care, and outpatient settings.

FAQs

How does Talkiatry work?

Talkiatry is an online psychiatry practice designed to make high-quality mental health care more accessible. We’re 100% virtual, in-network with major insurance plans, and first appointments are typically available in days.

To get started, you’ll complete a quick online assessment to tell us what you’re looking for. We’ll match you with psychiatrists who are licensed in your state, in-network with your insurance, and experienced in treating your concerns. You’ll choose the clinician you’d like to work with.

Your first visit is an in-depth evaluation where your psychiatrist will listen, provide a diagnosis, and work with you to create a treatment plan tailored to your goals and preferences. You’ll continue seeing the same clinician over time, adjusting your plan as your needs evolve. Our team is always here to help with scheduling, insurance, and questions about your care.

Do you provide therapy?

Care at Talkiatry starts with psychiatry. If you already have a Talkiatry psychiatrist, they can refer you to one of our therapists if you’ve decided together that therapy is the right next step. However, you can’t see a Talkiatry therapist if you aren’t already seeing one of our psychiatrists.

What should I do if I’m having an emergency?

Talkiatry does not provide emergency care. If you or someone you know is in crisis, please visit your nearest emergency room, call 911, or call or text the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988.

How much will my visit cost?

The majority of our visits cost patients $25 or less after insurance*, but your exact out-of-pocket cost depends on your plan. The best way to get a clear estimate is to contact your insurance provider directly. Here’s what to ask them:

  • Do I have mental health benefits that include outpatient psychiatry?
  • Is Talkiatry in-network for my plan?
  • What’s my copay or coinsurance for outpatient psychiatry visits?
  • Do I have a deductible? If so, how close am I to meeting it?
  • Do I have an out-of-pocket maximum? If so, how close am I to reaching it?
  • Are virtual or telehealth psychiatry visits covered the same as in-person care?
  • Is prior authorization required for outpatient psychiatry?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychiatry visit using CPT code 99204?
  • Can you provide a cost estimate for an in-network psychotherapy visit using CPT code 90833?

*Includes all patient costs from 9/24-9/25: copayment, deductible, coinsurance, and $0 payments. Excludes missed appt. fees.  Your medical visit costs can vary depending on insurance coverage.

What if I don’t want to take medication?

Psychiatrists are medical doctors, and medication is often part of how they treat mental health conditions. At Talkiatry, your psychiatrist will start by listening and discussing your options with you. Medication is always your choice, but if it’s not something you’re open to considering, we may not be the best fit for ongoing care at this time.

How do I know if Talkiatry can help me?

Talkiatry provides virtual, in-network psychiatric care for people struggling with mild to moderate mental health issues. Here’s what we can help with:

  • Anxiety
  • ADHD (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder)
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Child & adolescent care
  • Depression
  • OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder)
  • Pregnancy & postpartum care
  • PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder)
  • Substance use disorder

Our goal is to connect you with the best possible care for you. At your first visit, your doctor will confirm whether Talkiatry is the right fit. If they recommend in-person or higher-level care, they’ll guide you to the appropriate resources.

What if my insurance changes from Aetna?

Insurance changes are common, and we’re here to help. Talkiatry is in-network with thousands of plans. If your insurance changes, reach out to a Care Coordinator to update your information and confirm your coverage by calling 833-351-TALK (8255).

Do I still take the assessment if I’m already diagnosed with anxiety?

Yes. Our online assessment is an important part of how we match you with the right psychiatrist. Your first visit will include a thorough evaluation so your psychiatrist can confirm your diagnosis and tailor your treatment plan to your current needs.
