I have served as the inpatient medical director at MedStar Harbor Hospital in Baltimore and outpatient medical director at the University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake. I have extensive expertise diagnosing and treating a wide range of psychiatric conditions including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, adjustment disorders, phobias, thought disorders, trauma, and PTSD. I completed my BS at the University of Maryland at College Park, my MD at Georgetown School of Medicine, and my residency and fellowship at the University of Maryland Medical System at Baltimore (UMMS).

After completing my residency at Bergen New Bridge Medical Center, I transitioned to an attending psychiatrist at the same place where I completed my residency. During my initial years as an attending, I took care of my own patients and supervised third year residents in the outpatient setting. After a few years, I transitioned to an inpatient setting, where I treated both voluntary and involuntary patients. I also continued to evaluate patients in the emergency room as part of the call group for the last 8 years.

I am a Harvard trained, board certified adult psychiatrist who specializes in creating individually tailored treatment plans using high quality evidence and up-to-date clinical guidelines. I have a passion for shared decision making, which means empathetic listening to each patient and making a customized plan that supports their individual values and preferences. When meeting with a patient for the first time, I carefully review current symptoms, past history, and patient values and preferences, and I work with the patient to develop individual treatment goals. I graduated from the University of Missouri School of Medicine and completed my psychiatry residency training at Harvard South Shore. I completed a fellowship in geriatric psychiatry through Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA. I am board certified in both adult and geriatric psychiatry. Prior to joining Talkiatry, I was employed by the Department of Veteran Affairs for 10 years.

At the center of my clinical approach is a strong emphasis on establishing trust and using a collaborative approach to help patients develop an individualized and cohesive plan so that they are able to achieve their goals. My practice focuses on medication management, which I typically offer in conjunction with supportive therapy, motivational interviewing, and/or cognitive behavioral therapy in 30-minute follow-up visits. Occasionally, I may recommend that additional therapy is needed and ask that you bring a therapist into your care team in order to provide the best outcome. I specialize in treating patients with a history of depression, anxiety, trauma, and substance use disorders.

I am a double board-certified adult and addiction psychiatrist who has been in practice for over 9 years. I received my medical degree from St. George's University School of Medicine. I went on to complete my residency in psychiatry at Harvard South Shore, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School, where I served as Chief Resident and earned my 360° Professionalism award. I then had additional training in Addiction Psychiatry through my fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

After completing training, I worked as an Addiction Psychiatrist and Director of Adult Services in the Trauma and Resilience Center (TRC) at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth). I have held an academic appointment at UTHealth, and I have spent my professional career supervising and teaching medical students and psychiatry residents.

I am a strong advocate of collaboration between psychiatric care and psychotherapeutic interventions and encourage the utilization of therapists and counselors. I have previously provided acute care and residential treatment at Newport News Behavioral Health Center, outpatient services in the community, and the foster care system. I have recently served as medical director of Harbor Point Behavioral Health Center.

I later transitioned to the IT industry, earning a master's degree and certifications, before answering my true calling in medicine, graduating from Saint Matthews University School of Medicine.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist specializing in adult psychiatry. I completed residency training at East Carolina University in both internal medicine and psychiatry. After residency, I pursued my passion in psychiatry and stayed on as a clinical assistant professor in the department of psychiatry at East Carolina University. In this role, I specialized in treating adults with mental illness in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. I have spent a considerable amount of time teaching residents and medical students and have published several papers focusing on the neuroscience pathways of mental health conditions.

I am a board-certified adult psychiatrist with over 14 years of experience, during which time I primarily treated active-duty US Navy sailors, their family members, and military retirees in the outpatient setting. After serving as an Intelligence Officer in the Navy for eight years, I transitioned to medicine and earned my medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD. After completing an intern year in Family Medicine, I completed residency training in Psychiatry at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, VA, where I remained on staff for the next ten years and was primarily involved in resident training and education. I held academic appointments at the Uniformed Services University and Eastern Virginia Medical School and served as the Psychiatry Residency Program Director for six years. I served my final four years in uniform running the behavioral health department at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, WA, and recently retired from the Navy after a 30-year career.

I have extensive experience in outpatient psychiatric care. In addition to the full spectrum of mood and anxiety disorders, I have treated a very large number of patients with PTSD stemming from combat, natural disasters, and sexual trauma. In my most recent role, I served as the Deputy Chief of the Department of Behavioral Health at Fort Campbell, KY, where I provided clinical and administrative supervision, as well as mentorship and guidance for an interdisciplinary team of over 140 personnel. I maintained oversight of behavioral health care being delivered through 11 clinics and satellite locations, providing patient care for over 30,000 beneficiaries. While in leadership, I continued to provide direct patient care for service members and dependents, including child and adolescent populations. Due to my experience with this unique population, I have extensive experience in treating individuals with trauma.

I am board certified in general and child and adolescent psychiatry. My practice primarily focuses on medication management. I see myself as a collaborator with therapists and counselors in caring for their shared patients and their families. While I specialize in working with patients with anxiety, I do not prescribe benzodiazepines.

I received my medical degree from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, TN. I completed my residency at West Virginia University Hospitals and WVU School of Medicine and a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at the Yale Child Study Center, Yale University School of Medicine, and Yale-New Haven Hospital in New Haven and Middletown, CT. I completed my undergraduate studies at the University of Memphis.

After my fellowship, I remained in CT for two additional years, working in the Department of Children and Families, serving the state's at-risk youth and adolescents at a psychiatric residential treatment facility. I then returned to West Virginia University as clinical faculty in its School of Medicine. During that 12-year academic appointment, I had active roles in educating, training, and supervising medical students, general psychiatry residents, child and adolescent psychiatry fellows, and trainees from various disciplines. I worked for many years with adolescent males at both the Dually Diagnosed and Specialized Residential Treatment Centers within West Virginia University Healthcare. I provided outpatient and acute inpatient care, as well as hospital-based consultation services. Within the community, I provided medication evaluation and management services to residential treatment facilities and university student health. I have been seeing patients and collaborating with providers through telemedicine since 2016.

My passion for empowering patients with knowledge stems from my academic experience in psychiatry residency training. I served as an Associate Program Director of Loyola's Psychiatry residency training program for two years and now maintain an Affiliate Assistant Professor of Psychiatry role with Loyola. I continue to contribute to residency training, as well as mentorship of medical students and psychology externs. Over the years, I have received several awards that demonstrate my affinity for teaching, including the Educator of the Year Award in 2022 from the Loyola Psychiatry Residency Program.
