Krista Alexander, MD
I offer medication management and supportive psychotherapy for mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma, ADHD, substance use disorders, and other mental health issues. I strive to embody "relational prescribing" and believe that medication management is most effective in the context of a relationship of mutual trust, emotional safety, and shared decision-making between provider and patient. I have trained in psychodynamic psychotherapy and various forms of cognitive behavioral therapy, and I tailor my approach to each patient's individual strengths and needs. I understand that the needs of the whole person must be addressed in order to facilitate growth and healing, and I enjoy collaborating with fellow medical and mental health providers to address a patient's complex needs as an integrated team.
I am a board-certified psychiatrist who loves equipping my fellow human beings to feel and function better. I studied medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and completed my residency at Duke University. I have worked in both private practice and integrated primary care/behavioral health care settings, and I am a member of the American Psychiatric Association and the North Carolina Psychiatric Association.

What a psychiatrist can help with
Talkiatry psychiatrists are medical doctors who treat a wide range of mental health conditions and can prescribe and manage medication when it fits your care. Depending on your needs and what is available, therapy may also be part of your plan.
Common reasons Charlotte residents reach out include:
- Anxiety, including panic, social anxiety, and constant worry that interferes with daily life

Your psychiatrist listens first, works toward an accurate diagnosis, and personalizes care rather than defaulting to any single treatment.

Mental health care in Charlotte
Finding timely care in the Charlotte area reflects a wider gap across the state. North Carolina has 218 designated mental health professional shortage areas covering about 4.27 million people, and only about 12.5% of the need for psychiatric care is currently met (KFF). For you, that shortage often shows up as long waits and few openings nearby. Online care helps by connecting you with a licensed psychiatrist anywhere in the state, rather than limiting your options to the providers in your immediate area.
