Biography

I have more than 35 years of experience treating children, adolescents, and adults in both outpatient and inpatient settings. I earned my medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School, completed my Psychiatry Residency and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at University of Michigan Hospitals, and am an ABPN Diplomate in Psychiatry.

I provide patient-centered care focused on goals that are meaningful to each individual, while creating an open and supportive environment where patients feel heard, respected, validated, and cared for. I believe treatment works best when we work collaboratively and focus on what matters most to the patient.

I approach each patient as a unique individual, tailoring care to their symptoms, diagnoses, personal history, and goals. My treatment plans use an integrative, evidence-based approach that may include metabolic and dietary interventions, healthy sunlight exposure, sleep-wake cycle strategies, thoughtful medication management, and cognitive-behavioral and supportive psychotherapies.

I have experience practicing in outpatient clinics, including virtual settings. I earned my medical degree from Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed my psychiatry residency at HCA Florida JFK North Hospital. I am board certified in Psychiatry.

I believe every patient has an individual story and background that deserves to be understood. I prioritize listening to your concerns and fostering a safe, comfortable space where you can feel heard and open about what you are experiencing.

I begin by thoroughly reviewing your history, symptoms, concerns, and goals during our initial session. From there, I collaborate with you to develop a treatment plan focused on your mental health needs and goals. Because everyone's needs can change, treatment plans remain dynamic, and I can adjust our approach based on your response and progress.

I earned my Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, completed my Psychiatry residency at St. Vincent’s Catholic Medical Center, and completed a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship at St. Luke’s Roosevelt. I am board certified in Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry by the ABPN. I also have an interest in perimenopause- and menopause-related mood, anxiety, sleep, and concentration changes.

I take a patient-centered approach and meet you where you are. My relaxed, conversational style helps you feel comfortable discussing what matters most. I want to understand what is bothering you, how it affects your life, and what you would like to change. I value continuity of care and believe treatment should realistically fit your life.

I begin with a detailed evaluation of your concerns, history, previous treatments, and how symptoms affect daily functioning. We discuss my impressions and treatment options, your preferences, and what you can realistically expect. At follow-ups, we consider what has improved, what remains difficult, and whether treatment is helping. Sometimes recovery involves more than medication changes, including reducing demands when symptoms or burnout affect functioning.

I believe the most effective treatment begins with a genuine partnership where doctor and patient work together with transparency, collaboration, and mutual respect. I take a "whole person" approach using a biopsychosocial model that considers physical health, life experiences, and environment alongside symptoms. My goal is to combine evidence-based medicine with a personal, accessible approach so patients feel heard and supported.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist with over 30 years of clinical experience and a deep specialization in remote mental health delivery. I have worked in inpatient, outpatient, and residential settings and have served in leadership roles as a Medical Director. Throughout my career, I have leveraged telehealth technology to bridge gaps in care, ensuring that distance is never a barrier to receiving compassionate, timely psychiatric treatment.

During the first visit, I complete a comprehensive psychiatric consultation focused on the concerns that prompted you to seek care, along with a review of symptoms and treatment history. Together we will develop a treatment plan with clear goals. Care often begins with medication management and continues with supportive, insight-oriented conversations during follow-up visits, with additional therapy recommended when helpful.

I believe effective treatment begins with understanding a patient's life experiences and perspective. I take time to explore how patients see their challenges and what is or is not working for them. While medication can be an important tool, I do not focus on medication alone and value open discussion about its benefits and concerns. I prioritize understanding how patients are functioning across all areas of life and strongly value a collaborative approach, viewing treatment as a partnership built on shared decision-making. I begin with a thorough evaluation that includes medical and family history, ensuring that underlying medical issues are not overlooked. The first visit is also an opportunity to build rapport and help patients feel comfortable. Together, my patients and I develop a treatment plan aligned with their goals. I recognize that goals evolve over time and work collaboratively to adjust treatment as part of the ongoing growth process.

I grew up in Kentucky and have trained and practiced in a wide range of clinical settings. My experience spans inpatient and outpatient care, community mental health, state hospitals, addiction clinics, VA hospitals, and academic medicine. I became board certified in addiction medicine in 2019, deepening my understanding of how addiction affects individuals and families. I have also worked extensively with patients experiencing Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, including both military- and civilian-related trauma. My diverse background allows me to appreciate the complex personal, social, and medical factors that influence mental health.
